1 IntroductionThis document brief about the migration process from Lotus Notes mail server to Exchange 2007 mail Server. Exchange 2007 As a messaging system that is widely used in both large corporations and small businesses, Exchange Server has always been scalable in both directions. However, new demands on messaging – such as compliance, security, and disaster recovery – have created new challenges for delivering a messaging system that works great in small businesses and large enterprises alike. To rise to these new challenges, the architecture of Exchange Server 2007 has been updated to take advantage of 64-bit hardware, simplified administration and routing, and to enable an Exchange server to host one or more server roles.

2 New Features of Exchange 2007New Features of Exchange 2007 are

1. Comprehensive Protection from Outside ThreatsThe Exchange anti-spam framework has been expanded in Exchange Server 2007. It includes multi-tiered protection that blocks spam in several different ways. Some of the highlights include:

a. Safe-sender aggregation. b. Outlook E-Mail Postmarks. c. Spam quarantine. d. Sender reputation. e. Content Filtering on the Edge Transport server. f. Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server.

2. Simplified Message Security 3. Compliance4. Maximizing Availability5. Simplifying Exchange Management6. Productivity Boost

3 Objective/Scope

1. Install Lotus Notes Server2. Install Exchange 2007 Server (Mailbox, CAS, HUB)3. Demonstrate Secured OWA, Outlook Anywhere, Auto discover etc.4. Install Lotus Transporter Suite Connector.5. Migrate Mailboxes from Lotus to Exchange 2007.

5.2 Software Requirements Windows 2003 Server OS with SP1 or higher World Wide Web Service Enable network COM+ access Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, Remote procedure call (RPC) over Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) Proxy

Windows networking component ASP.NET version 2.0 Microsoft Management Console (MMC) 3.0 Microsoft Windows PowerShell LAN Drivers Update for Windows x64 (KB898060)

5.3 Domain Requirements Domain Name System (DNS) is configured correctly in your Active Directory forest.

For all domains in the Active Directory forest where you will install Exchange 2007 or that will host Exchange 2007 recipients, the Active Directory domain functional level must be Windows 2000 Server native or higher.

Domain functional level to be Windows 2000 native mode or higher Schema master & global catalog should run windows server 2003 sp1 or higher Exchange server mode to be set as native mode in co-existence scenario

5.4 Permission Requirements

Exchange installations; require certain administrative rights in order to install an Exchange 2007 server. The following is a list of required permissions required to install an Exchange 2007 server into a new or existing organization.

Local Administrator on the server Enterprise Administrator Domain Administrator Schema Administrator (only required for first install to extend the Schema)

6 DeploymentStep 1: Install & Configure Lotus Domino ServerStep 2: Install Exchange 2007 & configure the server (Secured OWA, Outlook Anywhere, Auto discover) Step 3: Install Transporter Suite.Step 4: Configure Connector Settings & prepare co-existence.Step 5: Move User from Lotus to AD & migrate mailbox dataStep 6:

6.1 Install Exchange 2007 Server

6.1.1 Preparing Active Directory1. Prepare Schema

This command will prepare the schema, and the account to run this command must be a member of the Schema Admins group as well as the Exchange Admins group.

Setup.com /PrepareSchema

Note: This command must also be run in the domain that contains the forests Schema Master, and again, should wait for the changes to replicate throughout AD before continuing. Replmon, from the Support Tools, is a great tool which can use to determine when the changes have been replicated.

2. Prepare Active Directory This command that you need to run preps the current domain, adds the Exchange Universal Security Groups and configures the Exchange objects with AD. The command

Setup.com /PrepareAD

6. The installation will now run a set of pre-checks to determine if the domain and server are ready to accept an Exchange 2007 server. Following shows an example of some common errors if IIS is missing, or if the domain is not at the required functional level (notice the Install button is grayed out).

7. When all of the Readiness Checks pass, the Install button will appear and you can press it to start the installation

6.5 Install Transporter Suite.Prerequisite: Install Configure Lotus Notes Client on exchange 2007 Server where we are going to install Transporter Suite. The configured lotus notes client user id must have reader or higher access in domino directory access control list. (We have used domino administrator id in the lab).

The process of installing the transporter suite is as follows:

1. Download the transporter suite from this location. Note that there are two versions of the file, namely transporter.msi for 64-bit systems and transporter32.msi for 32-bit systems.

2. On the Exchange 2007 server, run the relevant MSI installer and go through the opening welcome screen followed by the license agreement screen.

3. At the Select Components and Install Location screen, ensure that the Microsoft Transporter Tools option is selected for installation but that the Free Busy Connector Add-In Task for Lotus Domino is not as shown below

4. Finally at the Ready to install screen, click Install.

6.6 Configure Connector Settings & prepare co-existence.

To prepare co-existence following things should work

1. Users from both the email systems (lotus & exchange 2007) should be able to send & receive email from each other.

2. Users from both the email systems should be able to lookup the users in their address book.

6.7 Move User from Lotus to AD & migrate mailbox data

This section explains how to use the Transporter Management Console to migrate users from a Lotus Domino Directory to Active Directory service. This process updates existing Active Directory accounts and creates new Active Directory accounts if necessary. we can create Microsoft Exchange mailboxes for the migrated users during this process, or when the user's mail is migrated.

Pre-requisite Notes:

1. Create an import organizational unit (OU) container in Active Directory for the Domino users that are added during user migration.

2. Install a Lotus Notes 6.x or 7.x client on a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. The client must have a user ID that is listed in the Domino Directory's Access Control List with Reader or higher access.

3. Verify that the Lotus Notes client can access the Domino Directory (names.nsf) on the Lotus Domino server identified as the Domino Directory server.

4. To perform these procedures, the account you use must be delegated the following:

a. Exchange Recipient Administrator roleb. Account Operator role for applicable Active Directory containers

6.7.1 Migrate user from Lotus to Active Directory with mailbox content.

1. In the Transporter Management Console, Select User & click Migrate selected user as shown below.

2. You will be prompted to Enter Domino Credential. Type the password associated with the local Lotus Notes client, and then click OK.

3. After you review the Introduction screen, click next.4. Click Browse to select the organizational unit (OU) where the new accounts will be

created. Type a default password for the new Active Directory accounts. Click Next.
