SOTOGRANDE.- La final soña-da para el mejor torneo inter-nacional de la historia de So-togrande. Valiente y Ellerston se enfrentarán este sábado 30 de agosto en la cancha de Los Pinos por la Copa de Oro Bul-gari de alto handicap. El equi-po invicto hasta el momento, que aspira a la Triple Corona en Santa María Polo Club, fren-te al defensor del título del año pasado. Sobre la cancha esta-rán tres de los jugadores top ten del mundo. No se puede pe-dir más. La suerte está echada y el espectáculo, servido.

para esta fase por la definición de penaltis. El equipo de Adol-fo Cambiaso controló el en-cuentro en todo momento y se llevó el partido por un cómodo 16 a 10. El conjunto del patrón estadounidense Bob Jornayvaz empezó muy concentrado y a los pocos minutos del primer chukker ya vencía por 3 a 0. Va-liente siempre estuvo por enci-ma en el marcador; si bien, en la primera fase, RH supo re-cortar distancias y mantener la emoción. Una disputa que se desvaneció a partir del cuarto chukker, cuando los de Cam-biaso abrieron brecha y sen-tenciaron el partido.

Cambiaso sufrió un leve incidente al inicio del parti-

do cuando fue golpeado en el rostro por el caballo de un ad-versario, lo que obligó a parar el encuentro por unos minu-tos. Finalmente, todo quedó en un susto. El mejor jugador del mundo, al finalizar el encuen-tro, destacó el gran partido realizado por sus compañeros Santi Laborde y Santi Torres, que están completando un tor-neo espectacular. Tras levantar las Copas de Bronce y de Plata, Valiente aspira ahora a com-pletar un Torneo Internacional de Land Rover perfecto.

Por su parte, RH intentó mantenerle la cara al partido en todo momento, pero nada pudo hacer ante la superiori-dad de Valiente pese a contar

El 43 Torneo Internacional Land Rover de Polo llega a la jorna-da decisiva en las instalaciones de Santa María. Este sábado se disputa la gran final de la Copa de Oro Bulgari de alto handicap con los dos mejores equipos hasta el momento: Valiente y Ellers-ton. Se espera un gran ambiente en la cancha de Los Pinos, así como la presencia de rostros conocidos. El encargado de entregar el trofeo al ganador de la final será el actor español Jordi Mollá, embajador del proyecto Save the Children-Bulgari. La recaudación de las entradas para ver el encuentro, a partir de las 18 horas, se destinará a fines solidarios. Asimismo, se prevé la presencia también en esta jornada final de Sarah Ferguson, Duquesa de York, habitual de los veranos de Sotogrande y de las grandes citas del deporte de la bocha. El Torneo Internacional Land Rover se des-pide tras más de un mes albergando el mejor polo del mundo.

King Power está a punto de dar la sorpresa y apear a Ellerston de la final de la Copa de Oro

en sus filas con el jugador han-dicap 9 Nicolás Pieres. A RH le queda el consuelo de haber al-canzado las semifinales en la copa más importante de Soto-grande de este año.

La segunda semifinal de la tarde enfrentó a Ellerston y King Power, que también se coló en esta fase por penaltis. El partido estuvo muy igualado y se resolvió en un emocionan-

te último chukker. El conjun-to australiano, comandado por los hermanos Facundo y Gon-zalo Pieres, venció por 14 a 12 y podrá defender de esta for-ma la Copa de Oro que levantó en 2013.

King Power se plantó en el último chukker con una venta-ja de un gol y parecía que podía saltar la sorpresa en Los Pinos. Fue entonces cuando apareció la figura de Facundo Pieres, que volteó el marcador con dos go-les en el último suspiro. El pri-mero tras una espectacular ju-gada sorteando a los rivales y, el último, tras una cabalgada sobre la bocina.

Gonzalo Pieres, tras el par-tido, destacó la dificultad del

encuentro ante King Power. “El rival ha jugado bravísimo hasta el último chukker, donde iban uno arriba. Sabíamos que si co-metíamos un error se nos iba el partido. Por suerte pudimos empatar y llevarnos la victo-ria”, manifestó Pieres.

El jugador de Ellerston tam-bién se refirió a la gran final ante Valiente, el único equipo que les ha derrotado en Soto-

grande en las semifinales de la Copa de Plata. “Contra Valien-te de nuevo. La otra vez fue en semifinales y no nos fue bien. Ojalá hagamos un buen partido. Sabemos que será muy difícil pero nuestro equipo también tiene su potencial. Esperamos tener un buen día”, indicó.

Valiente y Ellerston buscan ahora inscribir su nombre en la historia del torneo de Soto-grande. Los de Cambiaso por la consecución de la Triple Co-rona, algo que el jugador ar-gentino logró el año pasado en la temporada de Argentina con La Dolfina. Asimismo, Cambia-so busca una Copa de Oro que no levanta en Sotogrande des-de 1999. Delante, los herma-

nos Pieres de Ellerston. Facun-do ya sabe lo que es ganar este máximo trofeo en Sotogrande en 2010 y 2013; mientras que Gonzalo es el jugador handicap 10 con mejor palmarés en San-ta María después de haber con-quistado la Copa de Oro en cua-tro ocasiones. SOTOGRANDE.- The dream fi-nal for the best international tournament in Sotogrande’s history. Valiente and Ellerston will go face to face on Satur-day 30th August on the Los Pi-nos field for the high handicap Bulgari Gold Cup. The undefea-ted team, aiming for the Triple Crown at the Santa Maria Polo Club, faces last year’s defen-ding championships. Three of the world’s top ten players will be on the field. You couldn’t ask for more. The die is cast, so let the show begin.

Valiente opened the semi-finals against RH, who quali-fied for this stage in penalties. Adolfo Cambiaso’s team contro-lled the game throughout and took the match by a comforta-ble 16-10. The team by U.S. pa-tron Bob Jornayvaz started out very focused and within a few minutes of the first chukker had already scored 3-0. Valien-te was always on top of the sco-reboard; even though, in the first stage, RH knew how to clo-se the gap and keep the excite-ment going. The fight however, disappeared from sight follo-wing the fourth chukker, when Cambiaso’s team widened the gap and sealed the game.

Cambiaso suffered a mild incident at the start of the ma-tch when he was hit in the face

by an opponent’s horse, whi-ch caused the game to be stop-ped for several minutes. In the end, it was nothing more than a scare. The best player in the world, upon finishing the mat-ch, underlined the great game played by his team members Santi Laborde and Santi Torres, who are performing brilliant-ly in the tournament. After lif-ting the Bronze and Silver Cups, the Valiente team now aims to complete a perfect run in the Land Rover International Tour-nament.

For their part, RH tried to keep their heads down throug-hout the match, but nothing

could be done about the su-periority of the Valeinte team, despite having amongst their ranks, the handicap 9 player Ni-colás Pieres. RH can take some comfort by having reached the semi-finals in this year’s most important cup in Sotogrande.

RH tried to keep their heads down throughout the match, but nothing could be done against Valiente

Cambiaso suffered a mild incident at the start of the match when he was hit by an opponent´s horse

evening pitted Ellerston against King Power, who also ended their game with penalties. The match was level throughout and was resolved in an exciting final chukker. The Australian team, led by brothers, Facundo and Gonzalo Pieres, won by 14-12 and so, will be able to defend their 2013 Gold Cup title.

King Power stood with a one-goal lead in the final chukker and looked like they would take the lead on the Los Pinos field. It was at this mo-ment, when the figure of Fa-cundo Pieres changed the sco-reboard with two goals in the final minutes of play. The first, after a fantastic move avoiding his rivals, and than the second, after a long sprint at full time.

After the match, Gonzalo Pieres spoke about the difficul-ty of the match against King Power. “Our opponents pla-yed fantastically until the fi-nal chukker, where they were one up. We knew that we had made a mistake and we were lo-sing the match. Luckily, we were able to tie and take the win”, said Pieres. The Ellerston pla-yer also spoke about the final against Valiente, the only team to have beaten them in Soto-grande in the semi-finals of the Silver Cup. “Up against Valiente again. The other time was in the semi-finals and things didn’t go well. If only we could play a

good game. We know it will be very difficult but our team also has the potential. We hope to have a good day”, he stated.

Valiente and Ellerston are now looking to write their na-mes in the history books of the Sotogrande tournament. The Cambiaso team, by taking the Triple Crown, something that the argentine player managed to do last year during the Ar-gentinean season with La Dol-fina. Cambiaso is looking for a Gold Cup, which he has not won in Sotogrande since 1999. In front, the Pieres brothers of the Ellerston team. Facundo al-ready knows what winning this

The 43 Land Rover International Polo Tournament reaches the final day at the premises of Santa Maria Polo Club. This Satur-day the final of the Bulgari Gold Cup of high handicap dispute with the top two teams so far: Valiente and Ellerston. A great atmosphere in the court of Los Pinos, and the presence of fa-miliar faces are expected. The charge of delivering the trophy to the winner of the final will be the Spanish actor Jordi Mollá, ambassador of the project Save the Children-Bulgari. It also pro-vides for the presence of Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.

SOTOGRANDE.- Equus y FCT son los finalistas de la Copa de Oro Casablanca de mediano handicap tras ganar el pasado lunes día 25 sus respectivos en-cuentros de semifinales del 43 Torneo Internacional Land Ro-ver de Polo que organiza Santa María Polo Club.

El conjunto alemán de Equus, campeón de la Copa de Plata, venció a Woodchester por 16 a 11 en la primera semifinal del día, disputada en la cancha 2 del Río, y va en busca de su segundo trofeo de la temporada en Sotogrande.

Delante tendrá a FCT, que venció a Seven Sevens por 8 a 7 en un encuentro muy dispu-tado en la segunda semifinal. El equipo sueco llega con ésta a su segunda final este año en Santa María, después de que cayera en el partido decisivo de la Copa de Bronce contra Leo-nes por 12 a 9.

Equus se está mostrando como una formación muy sóli-da durante todo el torneo pero no lo tendrá nada fácil en la fi-nal de la Copa de Oro contra FCT. Muestra de ello es que el equipo alemán sólo ha perdi-do un encuentro en este Torneo Internacional Land Rover y fue precisamente en las semifinales de la Copa de Bronce ante FCT por 12 a 11.

Asimismo, en las canchas de Puente de Hierro se dispu-taron las semifinales subsidia-rias de la Copa de Oro de me-diano handicap en las que se clasificaron para la final Mahra Esperanza y Lebeau Courally. El conjunto de Mahra Esperan-za venció a St. Mesme por 11 a 9 al tiempo que Lebeu Courally hizo lo propio con Silex por 9 a 8 en el chukker suplementario.

V. / SOTOGrandE.- Equus and FCT are the finalists for the Ca-sablanca medium handicap Gold Cup after winning their respective semi-final matches of the 43rd Land Rover Inter-national Polo Tournament orga-nised by the Santa Maria Polo Club, last Monday, the 25th. The German Equus team, champions of the Silver Cup, beat Woodchester by 16-11 in the first semi-final, played on Río field number 2, and goes in pursuit of their second trophy of the Sotogrande season. Facing them will be FCT, who beat Seven Sevens by 8-7 in a hotly contested match in the second semi-final. The Swedish team arrives with their victory at their second final this year in

Santa Maria, after losing in the decisive match of the Bronze Cup against Leones by 12-9. Equus has been demonstra-ting their very solid training throughout this whole tourna-ment but it will be anything but easy in the final of the Gold Cup against FCT. Proof of this is that the German team ha-ve only lost one match in the Land Rover International Tour-nament in the semi-finals of the

Bronze Cup against FCT by 12-11. Furthermore, on the Puente de Hierro fields, the subsidiary semi-finals of the Medium Han-dicap Gold Cup will be contes-ted for which Mahra Esperan-za and Lebeau Courally quali-fied. The Mahra Esperanza team beat St. Mesme by 11-9 whi-le Lebeu Courally did the same against Silex by 9-8 in the addi-tional chukker. Su rival será Serdañola, que batió en la otra semifinal de la Copa de Oro de bajo handicap a

Valdeparras - Marqués de Tor-neros por 12 a 7. De esta forma se reeditará la final de la Copa de Plata, cuando se enfrentaron Huntsman y Serdañola con vic-toria para el primero por 12 a 9.

Oro de mediano y bajo handi-cap se disputaron el pasado viernes 29 de agosto por la tar-de en las canchas de Los Pinos del Santa María Polo Club coin-cidiendo con el cierre de la pre-sente edición de este periódico.

La celebración de la Copa de Oro Bulgari no sólo atrae la mejor competición y los mejores juga-dores del mundo sobre las can-

chas del Santa María Polo Club, sino que también genera un ambiente excep-cional en la zona de entrecanchas y en el After Polo, donde se viven las fiestas de la temporada. Buena prueba de que el nivel también sube fuera del campo fue la convocatoria de YoDona, medio oficial del Torneo, y Bacardí, producto oficial del mismo, que ejercieron de an-fitriones en la fiesta The Last Chukker con la actuación del show de Dj’s Les Castizos.

Éstos atrajeron a cientos de invita-dos que no quisieron perderse la vuel-ta de esta singular pareja a una nueva edición del Torneo Internacional Land Rover de Polo. Polistas, residentes de Sotogrande e invitados de excepción se reunieron en una de las citas más mul-titudinarias de la agenda de fiestas en Grey Goose After Polo Sotogrande, el local de ocio nocturno de Santa María Polo Club.

Además, durante toda la semana, los atardeceres en el polo han sido ameni-zados con la música de diferentes intér-pretes y grupos musicales como Doctor 3, Los Intocables, Tony Crox, Los Sin-gles o Sin Noticias de Gurb. El fin de fiesta tendrá lugar este sábado 30 de agosto con el gran DJ Show de Carlos Jean acompañado de Crox y Dan-One que han puesto música a las noches del polo durante toda la temporada.

En los días previos a la final se han ido sucediendo actos como el celebra-do en el jardín de entrada del pabellón principal de Los Pinos, que acogió el pasado miércoles por la noche la en-trega de la IX Edición de los Premios al Polo Fuera de Serie que otorga Unidad Editorial. El galardón al mejor jugador de la temporada internacional de este año fue para el argentino Facundo Pie-res, que recogió el trofeo tras finalizar el partido que metía a su equipo Ellers-ton en la final de la Copa de Oro de alto handicap. Asimismo, el premio al mejor jugador promesa recayó en Hugo Lewis, del conjunto Equus, finalista también en Sotogrande en mediano handicap; mien-tras que el galardón al mejor patrón fue para Robert Jornayvaz, de la organiza-ción Valiente, que aspira a la Triple Co-rona en Santa María Polo Club.

La entrega de los trofeos Fuera de Serie registró un gran ambiente. En el acto estuvieron Ramón Mora-Figueroa, presidente de Santa María Polo Club; Luis Benjumea, director deportivo de la Real Federación Española de Polo; Pablo Mora-Figueroa, presidente de Casalbor Wines & Spirits; Iván Martínez, direc-tor de Fuera de Serie; Tania Martínez, de Unidad Editorial; Luis Estrada, vice-presidente de Santa María Polo Club; y Sebastián Amaya, de Polo Line. Tampoco quisieron perderse el acto Marcela Stir-ling, madre del jugador de Ayala David Stirling, o Louisa y Kaylelyn Jornayvaz.

Durante la temporada también ha habido lugar para las actuaciones con fines benéficos como la que corrió a car-go, el pasado martes, de Suzzete Mon-crief y la Lito Blues Band, que demos-traron su capacidad de atraer al público gracias a sus grandes dotes musicales.

La cita con una de las mejores ban-das especializadas en jazz y blues, cum-plió con un fin absolutamente benéfi-co. La recaudación de la entrada, de 20

euros, fue destinada al Centro de Hipo-terapia de Santa María Polo Club.

El Centro de Hipoterapia de Santa María Polo Club se dedica al tratamien-to terapéutico de disminuidos psíqui-cos y físicos mediante la utilización del caballo y la equitación especializada. Su finalidad es estimular y contribuir al desarrollo físico, psíquico, emocio-nal, social y ocupacional de personas con discapacidades o necesidades es-

peciales. La última entrada de la Copa de Plata Silex Oil consiguió recaudar 21.000 euros para la misma causa. En las manos de todos está poder superar esa magnífica cifra este sábado en San-ta María Polo Club durante la gran final de la Copa de Oro Bulgari.

Seguro que tanto participantes como público están a la altura y contribuyen, como cada año, al buen trabajo que esta entidad está consiguiendo.

The celebration of the Bulga-ri Gold Cup not only attracts the best competition and the best players in the world on

the fields of the Santa Maria Polo Club, but also creates an exceptional ener-gy on the club’s ground and at the Af-ter Polo, where the season’s parties are taking place. Proof that energy levels have gone far beyond the playing fields, was The Last Chukka party hosted by YoDona and Bacardi, official sponsor and product of the tournament respec-tively, accompanied with performances by DJs Les Castizos.

The events attracted hundreds of guests who did not want to miss the re-turn of this remarkable couple to a new edition of the Land Rover Internatio-nal Polo Tournament. Polo players, So-togrande residents and special guests gathered in one of the biggest events of the party calendar in the Grey Goose After Polo Sotogrande, the Santa Maria Polo Club’s evening entertainment ve-nue. Over the whole week, the evenings have been brightened up with music from a variety of performers and bands, such as Doctor 3, Los Intocables, Tony Crox, Los Singles and Sin Noticias de Gurb. The finale will take place on Sa-turday 30th August with the great DJ show from Carlos Jean accompanied by Crox and Dan-One who have been pla-ying music in the evening to accompany the polo throughout the season.

In these days before the final, also there has taken place a new edition of the prizes that recognize the labor of the players of pole.

The garden entrance of the Los Pi-nos main hall hosted, last Wednesday evening, the IX Edition of the Fuera de Serie Polo Awards presented by Uni-dad Editorial. The award for best pla-yer of this year’s international season

went to Argentine Facundo Pieres, who collected the trophy after finishing the game that took his team Ellerston into the final of the high handicap Gold Cup. Also, the award for most promising pla-yer went to Hugo Lewis, from the Equus team, also finalists in the medium han-dicap in Sotogrande; whilst the award for best patron went to Robert Jorna-yvaz, from the Valiente team, who are

aiming for the Triple Crown at the San-ta Maria Polo Club.

lopment of those with disabilities or special needs.The final match of the Silex Oil Silver cup managed to raise 21,000 euros for this cause. The power to beat this magnificent figure rests in the hands of everyone in attendance at the grand final of the Bulgari Gold Cup to take place next Saturday at the Santa Maria Polo Club.

V. / sotogrande.- El pasado sábado 23 de agosto se celebró la entrega de premios de la Es-cuela de Verano del Real Club Marítimo Sotogrande (RCMS), en el que se galardonó a los ni-ños que han destacado en es-tos cursos. Se dio un cocktail servido por el restaurante del RCMS. Asimismo, se entregaron los premios de la Liga de Vera-

nos de catamaranes, que se ha venido celebrando los miérco-les de agosto, y de la Liga de Verano de Tom28Max. En el ca-so de los catamaranes el gana-dor fue Pablo Parias como pa-trón con Cristina Ruiz de Velaz-co a su proa.

En Tom28Max el barco ‘Pink Floid’ de Enrique Benjumea ha ganado en esta ocasión la ligui-

lla de verano.Esta entrega, que este año

es su segunda edición, supo-ne un reconocimiento para los alumnos que muestran interés en los cursos impartidos por Rafael Duarte, monitor de la escuela, y también un recono-cimiento a los navegantes que regularmente asisten a las re-gatas de la Liga de Verano.

La alcaldesa accidental re-cordó que “la pasada semana se dio este paseo en barco a los mayores de la Residencia de San Enrique, y quiero agrade-cer el patrocinio de las empre-sas Puerto Sotogrande, Cafete-ría Ké y Ongolf, para que estas actividades tan importantes para nuestros abuelos sean po-sibles”.

“Los mayores disfrutan mu-cho de estas jornadas, que se suman al conjunto de activida-des que a lo largo del año los trabajadores municipales de Bienestar Social y los emplea-dos de Mensajeros de la Paz van programando para hacer más llevadero el día a día de los mayores de la Residencia: días de piscina, de visita a la playa de Guadarranque, de con-vivencias en el Pinar del Rey y, también, de paseos en barco como hoy. Todo lo que hagamos es poco”, manifestó Marchena.

La alcaldesa accidental de San Roque, asimismo, resaltó “la labor fundamental de los trabajadores de la Residencia de Mayores y de las viviendas tuteladas para hacer posibles estas jornadas, sin olvidar el apoyo del personal de Bienes-tar Social y de Protección Civil, especializado en ayudar para la movilidad de los mayores”. “Sólo espero que los abuelos disfruten de esta jornada espe-cial”, reiteró Marchena.

Por su parte, el teniente de alcalde de zona, Juan Roca, destacó “el trabajo que reali-zan los voluntarios de Protec-ción Civil, ayudando en todo momento a nuestro mayores a que disfruten con esta ilusión de montarse en un barco y dar este paseo por el puerto”.

Entre las empresas que han colaborado en esta actividad se citan la Cafetería Ké, ade-más del Puerto Deportivo y On Group, cuyos directivos coin-cidieron en señalar que supo-ne un placer el hecho de ver cómo los abuelos disfrutan de este día.

SOTOGRANDE.- About 35 el-derly people, residents of the San Roque Municipal retire-ment home and sheltered ac-commodation enjoyed a boat ride on the waters of the Soto-grande Port last Tuesday, the 26th August. Local officials ac-companied them during the activity, which aimed to pro-vide grandparents with an op-portunity to get away from their daily routine.

Interim mayor, Dolores Marchena, Councillor for So-cial Wellbeing, Ana María Ro-jas, Valle del Guadiaro De-puty Mayor, Juan Roca, and Councillor for Libraries, Pilar Núñez, chatted with grandpa-rents in the Cafetería Ké, whe-re breakfast was on offer be-fore they boarded the boat. Eli Ramos, assistant director, re-

presented Puerto Sotogrande.The interim mayor stated

that “last week this boat ride was organised for the resi-dents of the San Enrique re-tirement home, and I want to thank the sponsoring compa-nies, Puerto Sotogrande, Ca-fetería Ké and Ongolf, for enabling these important ac-tivities for our elderly to take place”.

“The seniors really enjo-yed their day out, in addition to the many other activities throughout the year that mu-nicipal workers of the Social Wellbeing department and employees from Mensajeros de la Paz are organising, ma-king residents lives that little bit more bearable. Activities include days at the swim-ming pool, visits to the Gua-darranque beach, residential retreats in Pinar del Rey, as

well as boat trips like today. Everything we do is small”, said Marchena.

For her part, Deputy mayor for the area, Juan Roca, hig-hlighted that “the work that the volunteers of the Civil Pro-tection unit carry out, is to at all times, help our elderly to enjoy this boat ride around the port”.

Among the companies that have collaborated on this acti-vity, special mention should go to Cafetería Ké, as well as the Marina and On Group, whose directors agreed that it was a pleasure to see these residents enjoying their day out.

SOTOGRANDE.- Un menor de 11 años se mantiene estable en el hospital Puerta del Mar tras ser arrollado, este pasa-do miércoles, por una lancha mientras practicaba buceo en aguas próximas al puerto de Sotogrande. El menor, que pa-saba aquí sus vacaciones junto a su familia, procedente de Se-villa, sufrió graves heridas en sus piernas. Aunque en un prin-cipio se temió que perdiera al-guna de ellas, finalmente no fue así. Ahora, permanece estabi-lizado y evoluciona favorable-mente mientras es atendido por el personal del centro hospita-lario gaditano.

Atención primeraEl accidente tuvo lugar a

media tarde del miércoles en la zona del espigón, junto al faro. Al parecer, el menor estaba bu-ceando sin señalización. Una lancha a gran velocidad lo atro-pelló causándole graves heridas en las piernas.

Rápidamente fue sacado del agua y atendido por una perso-na que se encontraba allí y por socorristas de Protección Civil de San Roque. También se avisó a los servicios sanitarios, Sal-vamento Marítimo, Guardia Ci-vil y Policía Local de San Ro-que. El niño fue atendido en el lugar donde se sucedieron los hechos durante al menos una hora. La pérdida de sangre que había sufrido llevó a los sani-tarios a recuperarlo allí mis-mo para luego trasladarlo fi-nalmente al Hospital Puerta del Mar de Cádiz. Aunque al prin-cipio se barajó la posibilidad de que fuera evacuado hasta el Hospital Militar de Sevilla, fi-nalmente se optó por llevarlo hasta Cádiz. Sus padres fueron trasladados hasta el Puerta del Mar en una patrulla de la Guar-dia Civil. El servicio de Emer-gencias 112 informó de que también se movilizó a la Poli-cía Local de la capital gaditana

para abrir paso a la ambulan-cia en su camino al centro hos-pitalario desde el helipuerto.

Patrullas de la Policía Local y de la Guardia Civil continuaron minutos después en el lugar re-

cabando datos de la embarca-ción preguntando a los testigos que presenciaron el hecho.

El niño, de 11 años, está ingresado en el Hospital Puerta del Mar, en Cádiz,

Arte flamenco, nueva cita con la cultura en la Plaza de Los NaranjosL.V. / SOTOGRANDE.- La alcal-desa accidental y delegada de Cultura y Turismo, Dolo-res Marchena, ha presentado el contenido del espectácu-lo Arte flamenco, una nueva cita cultural que tendrá lu-gar el próximo seis de sep-tiembre en la Plaza de los Naranjos. El presidente de la Asociación Cultural de So-togrande, Adrian van Loon, y la subdirectora de Puerto Sotogrande, Eli Ramos, tam-bién estuvieron presentes.

Arte Flamenco es una puesta en escena de Noelia Sabarea y su academia de baile, que estará acompa-ñada por Manuel Peralta, el Cuco, y otros artistas.

Además, también está previsto que actúen el Coro Ciudad de San Roque; y va-rios poetas y poetisas que leerán sus creaciones. Todo ello estará adornado con un desfile de moda flamenca de la mano de Confecciones Pa-quita, de La Línea.

En la presentación, Mar-chena destacó el trabajo que desarrolla la Asociación Cul-tural de Sotogrande, y la co-laboración que siempre aporta Puerto de Sotogrande.“Esta es un magnífica opor-tunidad de mostrar a nues-tros visitantes nuestro arte, y estoy segura que la pro-gramación preparada para esa noche va a gustar mu-cho”, añadió la concejal.

Adrian van Loon mani-festó estar muy agradecido con la ayuda que aportan Puerto y Ayuntamiento para dinamizar la vida cultural de Sotogrande; y Eli Ramos, aunque destacó la dificultad que supone poder organizar estas actividades en época estival; señaló, sin embar-go, que son actividades muy atractivas en las que están encantados de colaborar.

La responsable de Puerto Sotogrande recordó las últi-mas actividades en las que tanto el Ayuntamiento como la entidad para la que traba-ja han caminado de la mano como es el caso de la Feria del Atún; el descenso del Río Guadiaro; el triathlon, un cuentacuentos, la noche de poesía, las visitas de mayo-res, entre otros.

Hace tan solo unos días, otro gran espectáculo se dio cita en la Plaza de Los Nara-jos con el Reino de las Mu-sas, una performance donde un pianista puso la músi-ca al proceso creativo de un pintor. Numeroso públi-co acudió a esta convocato-ria que llegó, nuevamente, por iniciativa de la Asocia-ción Cultural de Sotogrande y Mosayco Arte Música, otro de los colectivos culturales más activos de la urbaniza-ción, con una galería de arte en la misma plaza.

El concejal de Seguridad Ciudadana, Juan Manuel Ordóñez, explicó que habló con familiares cercanos, y que éstos le informaron que el niño fue intervenido quirúr-gicamente la noche del accidente y que la ope-ración había ido bien. “Parece ser que está

estabilizado y ahora lo que esperamos es que vaya mejorando pro-gresivamente”. Ordóñez agradeció la labor de los efectivos de Protección Civil y de un módulo de socorrismo que se en-contraban en la zona, ya que fueron los que atendieron al menor, al

igual que también resal-tó la labor de la Policía Local. El responsable de Seguridad Ciudadana añadió que la Guardia Civil está buscando la embarcación que cau-só este accidente en el puerto de Sotogrande, aunque reconoció que no va a ser tarea fácil ya

que no fue identificada en el momento. La in-vestigación ya comenzó con el contacto con los testigos que vieron el suceso en el momento en que sucedió. Serán los responsables de la misma los encargados de arrojar más luz sobre el caso.

The accident took place in the middle of the evening of Wednesday in the zone of the

sting of an insect, close to the beacon. Apparently, the mi-nor was diving without sign-posting. A boat to great speed knocked down it causing him serious wounds in the legs. Ra-

pidly it was extracted of the water and attended by a per-son who was there and for res-cuers of San Roque’s Civil Pro-tection. Also there was warned the sanitary services, Maritime

Rescue, Police and San Roque’s City police. The child was at-tended in the place where the facts happened during at least an hour. The loss of blood that had suffered led the sanitary ones to recovering it there same then it to be moved finally to the Hospital Puerta del Mar of Cádiz. Though initially there fought the possibility that it was evacuated up to the Mili-tary Hospital of Seville, finally one chose to take it up to Cádiz. His parents were moved even the Puerta del Mar in a patrol of the Police.

The councilman of Civil Security, Juan Manuel Ordóñez, who made clear that he spoke with nearby relatives, that they him informed that the child was controlled surgically and that the operation had been OK. “It seems to be that it is stabilized and now what we wait is that it is improving progressively “, adds the councilman. The presi-dent of the Cultural Associa-tion of Sotogrande, Adrian van Loon, and the subdirec-tor of Port Sotogrande, Eli Ramos, also were present. Arte Flamenco is a putting in Noelia Sabarea’s scene and his academy of dance, which will be accompanied by Ma-nuel Peralta, the Cuco, and other artists.

En SM Club Motor, los clientes han de salir por las puertas del concesionario con la sensación de que han dejado su coche en

buenas manos. Éste es, al menos, el obje-tivo de los responsables de este estable-cimiento que, desde hace tres años, ofre-ce un servicio para la guardia y custodia de vehículos clásicos y de alta gama. En sus instalaciones, disponen de un gara-je para albergar a un total de 50 vehícu-los, que es el lugar destinado al cuidado y guarda de los coches.

“Aquí nos encargamos de todo, de cuidarlo durante todo el año o el tiempo que requiera su dueño; de su manteni-miento; de tramitar la Inspección Técnica de Vehículos (ITV) o cualquier otro trámi-te administrativo; y hasta de gestionar su transporte si fuese necesario. Todo ello con la garantía de que ha dejado su co-che en un lugar seguro y vigilado”, cuen-ta Ventura Fernández, propietario de SM Club Motor junto a Melanie Ledesma.

El sector con el que trabajan se cen-tra, sobre todo, en los coches de alta gama, como Ferrari, y clásicos. Su expe-riencia en este tipo de negocio les avala como especialistas. “Cuando un coche de este tipo se queda parado, hay que hacer-le un mantenimiento quincenal. Es decir, tenemos que estar pendientes de las ba-terías, de los componentes electrónicos o de los depósitos de aceite. Aunque no circulen, tratándose de estos modelos, su cuidado es muy exigente”, añade Ventura, que lleva en el negocio más de 25 años. En su opinión, hacer uso de un servicio como el que ofrecen, garantiza al usuario o propietario de un vehículo de alta gama o un clásico, el mejor mantenimiento. Además, realizan todo tipo de reparacio-nes y restauraciones de clásicos.

¿Ý cuándo un coche pasa a la catego-ría de clásico? Ventura cuenta que como clásico se entiende aquel vehículo que

tiene más de 25 años, añadiendo que son también los más solicitados. “La gente busca, sobre todo, vehículos de la marca Porsche y Mercedes. Son los clásicos más demandados”, dice.

El propietario de SM Motor tam-bién habla de gustos por nacionalidades. Como la población residente en el área de Sotogrande está compuesta por in-gleses y alemanes en su mayoría, son las marcas más emblemáticas de esos países

trícula española”, añade Ventura Fernán-dez. Añade que las piezas exclusivas son las más valoradas por los clientes, y tam-bién las más difíciles de conseguir.

La experiencia de Ventura Fernández y Melanie Ledesma les ha colocado como referentes en la zona. Ahora, la reciente crisis económica les ha llevado a diver-sificar el negocio; y sumar nuevos servi-cios, como la guardia de vehículos, a los que ya venían realizando.

the aim of those in charge of this esta-blishment, and for three years has been offering storage and garaging services for high-end vehicles. Within their fa-cilities, they have a warehouse that can accommodate a total of 50 vehicles; the perfect place for car storage and care.

“We take care of everything here, from looking after vehicles throughout the whole year, or however long a client requires; to taking care of maintenance issues, organising Technical Vehicle Ins-pections (ITV) or any other administra-tive formalities; or even organise their transportation from any part if needed. We take care of absolutely everything to do with vehicles”, said Ventura Fernán-dez, owner of SM Club Motor with Me-lanie Ledesma.

The sector that they work with focu-ses mainly on high-end cars, like Ferra-ris, and classic cars. Their experience in this type of business supports them as specialists, “When a car of this type is left stationary, we have to perform fortnightly maintenance. We have to be aware of the batteries, the electro-nic components and the oil tanks. Al-though they are not being driven, when it comes to these models in particular, their care is very demanding” adds Ven-tura, who has been in the business for 25 years. In her opinion, using a servi-ce like theirs, ensures that a vehicle is in fully working order for drivers or ow-ners of high-end or classical cars.

So when does a car become a clas-sic? Ventura says that a classic is any vehicle of more than 25 years old and, that that they are also the most sought-after. “The most of people are looking, above all, for branded vehicles like Por-she and Mercedes. They are the most popular”, he says.

The owner of SM Motor also talked about tastes by nationalities. As the resident population in the Sotogran-de area is made up of mostly Brits and Germans, they are the most emblema-tic brands of those countries and the brands they love the most.

Another area that the dealership is involved with, is the buying and selling of vehicles. “We sell and buy Ferraris, Masseratis, MacLarens, Aston Martins. But not here. We have clients that lo-cate or want a special model locating, and we organise travel arrangements to wherever the car may be, handling all the paperwork for their transfer, and ensuring they obtain Spanish registra-tion plates,” adds Ventura Fernández.

She adds that the exclusive pieces are the most valued by clients, and also the hardest to get hold of. The combined experience of Ventura Fernández and Melaine Ledesma has put at the fore-front of the field.

The economic crisis has now led them to diversifying their business, and adding new services, such as vehicle storage, to those already in place. “Do-ing many things it is since we go out forward”, adds the owner of SM Club Motor.

Imaginen un lugar donde conviven personas de diferentes culturas y nacionalidades. Ahora, intenten ofrecerles una programación cultu-

ral que guste a todos. Pues ese es el tra-bajo que realiza la Asociación Cultural de Sotogrande desde que se fundó, allá por 2002. Adrian van Loon, presidente del colectivo, explica cómo surgió todo. “Esto empezó en una charla con un ami-go, en la que hablábamos de la calidad de vida de Sotogrande y de la oferta de-portiva de lujo que entonces, y todavía hoy, pone al servicio de sus residentes y visitantes. Sin embargo, ambos coin-cidíamos en que había otras necesida-des que no estaban cubiertas y que una de ellas era la ausencia de un progra-ma cultural. Y lo que se inició como una charla entre dos se fue convirtiendo, con el paso de las semanas, en reuniones de 40 personas”, cuenta el presidente.

Los principios, como todos, fueron difíciles. La primera dificultad que se les presentó fue la del idioma, claro. “Aquello era una torre de Babel, pero al final nos entendimos siendo conscien-tes de que lo que nos unía era el afán y el deseo de iniciar un camino de inte-gración que todavía hoy seguimos reco-rriendo”, explica Van Loon.

Creada como un colectivo sin ánimo de lucro, la Asociación Cultural de Soto-grande echó a andar con un buen grupo de socios, ahora mucho más reducido, y con el establecimiento de cuotas para el desarrollo de las actividades cultura-les. Ahora, su presupuesto se nutre de donaciones particulares y de las apor-taciones procedentes de la Entidad Ur-banística de Conservación, y del despa-

cho de abogados Hassans; que son sus dos principales patrocinadores, inde-pendientemente de que para actos pun-tuales surjan otras colaboraciones. El

programa cultural de la asociación des-taca por la organización, al año, de tres o cuatro grandes citas musicales. “Algu-nos dicen que nos hemos convertido en

asociación musical, pero es que nos he-mos dado cuenta de que la música une a todos por igual, sin importar el idio-ma que hablen”, señaló Van Loon.

Lejos de atender a la leyenda de El holandés errante, aquel bar-co que según contaban estaba condenado a vagar por el mun-

do, Adrian van Loon, también de origen holandés, tuvo muy claro, desde que llegara por primera vez a Sotogrande, hace ya casi 30 años, que había encon-trado el lugar ideal para abandonar su finca del campo holandés.

Dedicado al marketing internacio-nal, el presidente de la Asociación Cul-tural de Sotogrande estuvo ligado en su carrera profesional a instituciones que tenían y tienen como objetivo fomen-tar las buenas relaciones entre España y Holanda. “Viajaba mucho, y cuando venía a España solía quedarme en Ma-drid, y aunque me gustaba como ciu-dad, no quería vivir allí. Cuando llegué a Sotogrande me di cuenta de que era el momento de dejar mi país”, explica.

Van Loon es residente de la urbani-zación desde hace 25 años y en todo ese tiempo se ha convertido en un enamo-rado de Andalucía. Dice sentirse ‘holan-daluz’, un curioso gentilicio con el que quiere poner de manifiesto que, siendo holandés, ama a Andalucía como si fue-ra su propio país. Conoció el flamenco de pequeño, por circunstancias perso-

nales, y en unos semanas, el próximo seis de septiembre, vivirá uno de sus días más importantes porque por fin podrá cumplir su deseo de llevar un es-pectáculo flamenco a Sotogrande.

Éste será uno de los grandes logros de este verano, una estación en la que la programación no se ve alterada por el mayor número de visitantes. “Para los

que residimos en Sotogrande, la mejor época del año comienza en la segunda quincena de septiembre. Y esto lo debe entender todo el mundo porque los que vivimos en la urbanización, la elegimos porque nos gusta la tranquilidad de la que disfrutamos aquí”, señala Van Loon.

Un enamorado de Andalucía, un apa-sionado de Sotogrande, y un hombre

convencido de que la sociedad necesita un equilibrio, y ese equilibrio lo propor-ciona la cultura. Entre sus sueños está poder recuperar algún festival que fue arrastrado por la crisis; crear otro de-dicado al cine y, por supuesto, levantar un centro cultural que se convierta en el punto de encuentro y enriquecimien-to de todos sus residentes.

Imagine a place where people of different cultures and nationali-ties lived together. Now, try to offer them cultural activities that suites

everyone. Well that has been the job of the Sotogrande Cultural Association sin-ce it was founded back in 2002. Adrian van Loon, president of the association, explains how it all started. “It started with a conversation with a friend, whe-re we were talking about the quality of life in Sotogrande and the provision of luxury sports that was, and is still avai-lable for residents and visitors. Howe-ver, we both agreed that there were other things that were needed but were not co-vered, one of them being a lack of cultu-ral activities. And so what began as a chat between two people, gradually tur-ned into, over several weeks, meetings with 40 people”, says the president.

At first, like everything, things were difficult. The first difficulty that came about was the language, of course. “That was a tower of Babel, but in the end we understood each other and well aware of what united us: an eagerness and desi-re to start a journey towards integration that even today we are still travelling on” explains Van Loon. Founded as a non-

profit group, the Sotogrande Cultural As-sociation started with a good group of members, now much reduced, and with the establishment of quotas for the de-velopment of cultural activities. Now, its budget is nourished by private do-nations and contributions from the Ur-ban Conservation Authority, and from the law firm Hassans; which are its two

main sponsors, regardless of whether from one-off events other collaborations arise. The cultural programme of the as-sociation is noted for its organisation of three or four large musical events every year. “Some say that we have become a musical association, but what we have realised is that music unites us all as equals, no matter what language we may speak”, said Van Loon.

Instead of adhering to the legend of the Flying Dutchman, the boat that according to legend was do-omed to wander the world, Adrian

van Loon, also of Dutch origin, had no doubts, since arriving for the first time in Sotogrande almost 30 years ago, that he had found the ideal place to aban-don his home in the Dutch countryside.

Devoted to international marketing, the president of the Sotogrande Cultu-ral Association was linked in his career to institutions that had and still have as their aim, to foster good relations between Spain and the Netherlands. “I travelled lots, and when I came to Spain I used to stay in Madrid, and although I liked the city, I did not want to live the-

re. When I arrived in Sotogrande I rea-lised that it was time to leave my coun-try”, he explains.

Van Loon has been a resident of the area for 25 years and in that time has fallen in love with Andalusia. He says he feels “holandalusian”, a curio-us adjective that demonstrates, that al-though being Dutch, you love Andalusia

as if it were your own country. He came across flamenco at a young age, due to personal circumstances, and in a few weeks time, the sixth of September, he will live one of the most important days of his life, because finally he’ll be able to fulfil his wish of bringing a flamenco show to Sotogrande.

This will be one of the greatest achievements of this summer, a season in which the various cultural activi-ties have not changed because of the in-creasing numbers of visitors, “For those who reside in Sotogrande, the best time of the year begins in the second half of September. And everyone should un-derstand this, because those who live in the area, chose it because they like and enjoy the peace and quiet”, said Van Loon.

A lover of Andalusia, a fan of Soto-grande, and a man convinced that so-ciety needs a balance, and this balan-ce is created by culture. One of his dreams is to recover a festival that was swept away by the economic crisis; to create another festival dedicated to ci-nema and, of course, to build a cultu-ral centre that will become the meeting and enrichment point for the residents of the area.

The president of the group arrived in the area from the Netherlands, and soon became convinced that it was the best place to live. He now confesses to be in

love with Andalusia, and considers the region his home

SOTOGRANDE.- Visitar Gi-braltar es uno de los mayores atractivos turísticos que tiene el Campo de Gibraltar. El Pe-ñon o la Roca, como se le co-noce popularmente, atrae cada año a nueve millones de turis-tas, lo que lo convierte, a pesar de sus reducidas dimensiones, solo ocho kilómetros, en uno de los lugares más visitados por quienes eligen la zona para pa-sar sus vacaciones.

La historia que pesa sobre Gibraltar, su privilegiada si-tuación geográfica y su rique-za natural dan contenido a una oferta turística que tiene sus principales puntos fuertes en los conocidos como Túneles del Gran Asedio, la Cueva de San Miguel, los túneles de la Segun-da Guerra Mundial, o la Punta de Europa, desde donde pueden divisarse las costas españolas y marroquíes, entre otros recla-mos. No hay que olvidar al fa-moso macaco gibraltareño, que vive en la reserva natural, y que provoca la curiosidad e interés del que se acerca al Peñón; o la oferta comercial de Main Street, que recrea el típico ambiente del shopping británico.

Pero si de lo que se trata es de refugiarse en la historia, la visita a los Túneles del Gran Asedio es casi obligada. Un complejo laberinto de túneles que se construyó como sistema de defensa para hacer frente a las tropas extranjeras. Comen-zó a idearse en 1782 y su buen estado actual y las recreaciones que allí se realizan convierten a este lugar en una clara opción en cualquier diario de visita a Gibraltar.

La Cueva de San Miguel es otro de los lugares más fre-cuentados por los turistas. Se dice que esta gruta ya era visi-tada en época de los romanos, y que fue Pomponious Mela, uno de los primeros geógrafos que vivieron en el comienzo de la era cristiana, quien descri-bió Calpe (el nombre romano de Gibraltar) como una mon-taña con concavidades maravi-llosas, y que tenía su lado oc-cidental casi abierto por una gran cueva.

La cueva consta de una sala superior, conectada con cinco pasajes, con gotas de entre 40 pies (12.2 metros) y 150 pies (45,7 metros) a una sala más pequeña. Más allá de este pun-to una serie de agujeros estre-chos conducen a una sucesión de más cámaras, alcanzando una profundidad de unos 250 pies (62.5 metros) por debajo de la entrada. Durante la Segun-da Guerra Mundial la cueva se

preparó como un hospital de emergencia, pero nunca se uti-lizó. Las áreas más oscuras se formaron durante los períodos de menos lluvia. Pero tal vez las dos líneas finas de sustan-cia blanca quebradiza sean la parte más interesante de su es-tructura. Se cree que éstas re-presentan períodos glaciares. Además de la sección transver-sal de la estalagmita, también es translúcida en ciertas par-tes. Esta estalagmita, que tiene siglos de antigüedad, permite a los visitantes ver la belleza úni-ca de la naturaleza cristalizada.

Actualmente, la cueva dis-pone de un auditorio único para conciertos, ballet y teatro. Ha estado en uso como teatro des-de principios de los años sesen-ta y tiene un aforo para alber-gar a 400 personas.

Vistas maravillosasIr a Punta Europa es alcan-

zar el punto más meridional del continente europeo. Por tan-to, esta es otra de las posibili-dades que Gibraltar ofrece al turista que, si la meteorología le favorece, puede disfrutar de unas maravillosas vistas de las costas españolas y marroquíes.

Por supuesto que subir has-ta la reserva natural, donde vive el macaco gibraltareño, es la al-ternativa más divertida. Estos monos tienen fama de llevar a

cabo alguna que otra travesu-ra y son muchos los comenta-rios en internet que advierten al visitante de algunas de sus habilidades. Hasta la reserva se puede llegar a pie, pero no es lo más recomendable. Ir en coche, o tomar el teleférico son las me-jores opciones.

Y despúes de una larga jor-nada recorriendo los lugares más emblemáticos de Gibraltar, hay que dejar tiempo para bajar hasta Main Street y disfrutar del ambiente típico inglés. A lo largo de esta calle, sus bares y comercios le permitirán degus-tar la gastronomía inglesa, ade-

más de adquirir algún que otro souvenir.

Gibraltar is one of the best tourist attractions on offer in the Campo de Gibraltar. The Rock, as it is more popularly

know, attracts around nine million vi-sitors every year, making it, despite its small size of only eight kilometres, one of the most visited places by those who choose to spend their holidays of sum-mer in the area.

The history hanging over Gibral-tar, its ideal geographical location and its natural wealth have bolstered its tourist industry, whose key attractio-ns include the well known Great Siege Tunnels, St. Michael’s cave, the Second World War Tunnels, and the Europa Po-int, from which visitors can see the Spa-nish and Moroccan coastlines among other things. Not forgetting, of course, the famous macaque monkeys who live in the nature reserve, and arouse curio-sity and interest from those climbing the Rock, or even the shops of Main Street, recreating the atmosphere of a typical British high street.

But if visitors prefer to step back into the Rock’s history, a visit to the Great Siege Tunnels is a must. A com-plex maze of tunnels that were built as a defence system to warn off foreign troops. Construction work began in 1782 and their current good condition and the restoration work taking place, has made this attraction a top choice for a day visit to Gibraltar.

St. Michael’s Cave is another one of the most visited places by tourists. It is said that this cave was visited by Pom-ponius Mela during roman times, one of the first geographers who lived during the start of the Christian age, and who described Calpe (the roman name for Gibraltar) as a mountain with wonder-

ful concavities and which has its wes-tern side almost opened by a large cave.

The cave consists of an Upper Hall, connected to five passages, with drops of between 40 feet (12.2m) and 150 feet (45.7m) into a smaller hall. Beyond this point, a series of narrow holes leads to a further succession of chambers, re-aching a depth of some 250 feet (62.5m) below the entrance.

During the Second World War the cave was prepared as an emergency hospital, but was never used. The dar-ker areas were formed during periods of low rainfall. But perhaps the two fine lines of crisp white matter are the most interesting parts of its structure. It is believed that these represent glacial pe-riods. In addition to the stalagmite’s cross-section, it is also translucent in certain areas. This stalagmite, which is centuries old, allows visitors to see the unique beauty of its crystalized nature.

At present, the cave has a unique auditorium space for concerts and ba-

llet and theatre productions. It is has been in use as a theatre since the ear-ly sixties and has a seating capacity of 400 people.

Visiting Europa point means reaching the southernmost point of continental Europe and as such, is another tourist attraction in Gibraltar, and allowing vi-sitors the opportunity to enjoy the won-derful views of the Spanish and Moro-ccan coastlines, if the weather is clear.

Of course the nature reserve high above, where the macaque monkeys live, is the fun alternative. These monkeys are well known for their mischief and there are many comments on the Internet war-ning visitors of some of their skills. The reserve can be reached on foot, but it is not recommended. Going by car, or ta-king the cable cars are the best options.

And after a long day visiting the most emblematic places of Gibraltar,

leave time to go down to Main Street and enjoy the typical English atmos-phere. The many bars and shops lining the streets will ensure you get to enjoy the English cuisine on offer, and also buy the odd souvenir.
