Toumani Diabaté invited Brazilian songwriter and poet Arnaldo Antunes and guitarist Edgard Scandurra to Mali to record with him following a collaboration at the festival Back2Black in Rio in 2010. Arnaldo and Edgard arrived in Bamako with a collection of songs and, with the Malian musicians, they combined rock ‘n’ roll, African roots and blues to create an uplifting fusion. Together they celebrate the spirit of collaboration and connect Mali and Brazil in a way that blurs geographical and musical boundaries. London’s Family Atlantica provide support.

BRASS BAND BATTLE - ME

Two super heavyweight enormous brass bands go head to head, mano a mano on the same stage to decide whether it’s Mexico or the Balkans that can blow up the biggest storm. Whilst in the East father and son Boban and Marko Markovic from Serbia have become the gypsy brass kings of the Balkans, in the West, Gérman, leader of the Lizarraga dynasty of Banda musicians

from Northern Mexico has blown his way to ascendancy with the Estrellas de Sinaloa.

A world premiere title decider, white-hot-brass-knuckle ride not to be missed.

Produced in association with the Barbican
