Broad level outcome of the course would be an understanding of various aspects of solar PV technologies
and their applications. A knowledge of the solar cell manufacturing and its limitations will be provided. The
participants will acquire an ability to understand the physics of solar cells, limitation to cell efficiency and
possible solar cell design. It will enable participants to design of PV modules for different power ratings as
well as overall design of a PV system to full fill given electricity requirements. Participants will also get an
ability to estimate the cost of solar electricity and compare with the electricity cost of conventional power
generation.
Targeted Audience: Anybody who is from Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication, Mechanical,
Physics and Energy background can attend the course
With increasing in stress on fossil fuel based energy resources and their impact on climate change there is
strong need for alternative energy solutions. For India, solar energy solutions are becoming increasingly
viable option particularly due to favorable policies of the government. With the National Solar Mission
target of 100,000 MW of solar power installation in the country, there is great demand of skilled manpower
in the country at various levels from technician to scientists. It is estimated that as much as 300,000 people
need to be employed in India by 2022 to meet the installation target. This course with the title “Solar
Photovoltaics : Fundamentals, Technologies and Applications” is designed to provide introduction to
various aspects of solar PV technologies. The course is designed in a manner that any engineering and
science graduate without background in solar photovoltaic can attend and understand it.
Resource PersonsDr. Chetan Singh Solanki is currently Professor in Department of Energy Science and Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB), India. He is an expert solar cell technologies and systems. He received his Ph.D. degree from the specialist silicon laboratory, IMEC, Ketholik University, Leuven, Belgium.
