"Play one close to the floor" the dancer calls, and the fiddler responds with his best tune for dancing. Whether for a square set, the lancers, a

step dance or a waltz, the fiddle and accordion have always been essential for a good Newfoundland tirne. From the traditional fiddle playing of such greats as Rufus Guinchard and Emile Benoit to the contemporary sounds of bands like Figgy Duff and The Wonderful

G Band, the instrumental dance music of Newfoundland continues to be played "close to the floor" by a great many of our finest musicians.
