SAFETY
At all times your first priority is the safety of your players.
You are responsible for your players from the moment they arrive until they leave. Even if parents are present.
Make sure the training area and court are safe before training and games, e.g. no wobbly poles, or slippery courts when wet.

RISK MANAGEMENT
DO NOT:
run risky training drills,
leave them by themselves or with strangers,
put them down or allow others to put them down,
touch them unless it is appropriate and necessary
let injured players train or play.

TRAINING
Have a goal for each session.Make sure your activities relate to the
goal.Each training session should include:
a warm-up,dynamic stretching – relevant to the
activities, skill practice and/or tactics, game practice or modified game.

WARM-UP AND STRETCHING
Should be active. The aim is to reduce the risk of injury by increasing the muscle temperature through increasing the heart rate. A jog around the courts or minor game is good. Do not sprint etc. until warm.
Stretching should be dynamic (moving) not holding. It should be relevant to the body parts being used in netball. e.g. lunges, high knees, leg swings, arm swings, trunk twists.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT
Your drills should be relevant to the GOAL/S for that training session.e.g. If the goal is to improve passing to where the
player is leading, then the drills should including a player running to catch the ball (not stationary passing).

GAME SENSE
Is a very effective training method, where drills must be: relevant to the game and include both attackers and defenders.
These drills should relate to the goal you want to achieve that session.
EXERCISE: in pairs come up with a goal and a relevant game sense drill to share with the group.

TEAM SHEET
Players names have to be filled in with correct spelling.
List all players who will be playing that game.
You must fill in their positions each quarter.
The timekeeper should not sign the scoresheet until all positions are filled in a they agree with the score.

NEW PLAYERS AND/OR FILL INS
New players must be registered by a committee member before they take the court.
Fill ins must have the age group and section they are from written next to their name on the scoresheet.

USING FILL IN PLAYERS
Please check with Nicole or Jo before using a player as a fill in. There are specific rules, such as: A player, in the same age group, can only play for a team
during 2 games. Upon taking the court during a 3rd game, they become a member of that team.
A player, in a younger age group, can play unlimited games in an older age group.
A player can only play in an age group 2 age groups older than their actual age group, e.g. Hayley DOB makes her U13, but she is playing U15. She is still not allowed to fill in for Open, because it is 3 age groups older than her actual age group.

ISSUES AT THE GAME
Coaches are not to approach umpires – only the captain can (at junior level go with the player).
If you have a problem with an umpire, get an umpire convenor.
If you have a problem with parents or players let myself or a committee member know.
