How do organisms

change as they go through their

lifecycles?

Two examples of the changes that occurs can be seen in the lifecycles of butterflies and frogs. This graphic shows the progression of each species growth and changes from birth to adulthood.

Now everyone take a minute and think about what we just learned while playing the Build Your Own Caterpillar game and answer these questions on a piece of paper and turn in your work to the front table.

1. Give an example of a trait that a caterpillar might use in one of scenarios presented in the game that would help it survive?

2. How might the needs of a caterpillar change based on the environment that caterpillar lives in?

3. What was the most interesting defense mechanism that was available for you to use?

Is protecting the Monarch Butterflies important, why or why not?

What can we do as a class to help Monarch Butterflies?

What steps must be taken for us to accomplish this plan?
