She encouraged student delegations from 22 countries and the Dominion HS student body to get involved to shape the future. "Find an issue you believe in," she remarked, "and do something about it." Participants spent the next nine days serving the community, sharing cultural experiences and examining how to bridge racial and ethnic divides. The successful program, now in its sixth year, was made possible by a grant to LEF from the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation. Community School Meal DebtCollection Tops $7,000

The community effort to pay off studentmeal debt for LCPS families in needsurpassed the $7,000 mark. The totalschool meal debt is reported to be over

$13,000. Thank you to all the individualsand businesses that have paid it forwardfor struggling families in LoudounCounty. We were able to assist 33 schoolsfrom around the county and 1,087students.

Jack Kent Cooke FoundationAwards LEF $35K Grant

Computer coding and digital literacy willbe the focus of this grant supporting thenew EDGE Plus program. This 18­week,after school STEM activity will benefit 90fourth and fifth graders at three LCPSelementary schools serving low­incomefamilies. Thank you, JKCF!

Backpack Buddies DonationHelps Feed More Students

The Backpack Buddies Foundation ofLoudoun (BBFL) donated $15,000 to theLEF/LCPS Backpack Coalition program,which supplements existing BackpackBuddies programs when food or funding isnot available. The program currently feedsabout 1,000 students per week with thehelp of volunteers and donations from thecommunity. One­hundred percent of the$15,000 donation will be used to purchasefood from Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.  Read more
