About the Job

Learning Assistants are strategic learning supporters, they are learners, developing their craft as educators. They are helping others be successful by supporting a teaching team or assisting students with their learning pathways. Learning Assistants are developing as career educators. They draw on empathy for the learner and their needs in pursuit of agency. They act as student advocates, role models, and supporters of diversity. Learning Assistants help build relationships based on trust, thoughtfulness and striving for success. As a start-up school, we require individuals possessing an entrepreneurial spirit who view ambiguity as an opportunity. A desire to create a dynamic experience for our learners, with a future ready focus is essential. Why is this role important for Verso’s work?

Key to our success as a new school is the impact that the opening year has with our first cohort of students and with the broader community. Verso’s opening year will be a positive and creative experience. These teams will be supported by the Loop Cohort Leaders. We pride ourselves on being the first international school to engage IDEO in designing a school. IDEO is a world leading design and innovation company and they helped shape our project. We started from a design question, “How might we design a school for the future?” Design thinking is paramount to our success in building a team who believe wholeheartedly in the VERSO model. Teaching Assistants need to be responsive and collaborative, be aware of the individual and group needs of the cohort and the Learning Designers. They are aware of the drivers of change that are shaping the future and that explain the different approach emerging in the VERSO model of learning.. As advocates for the program, Teaching Assistants will be adept at narrative creation and confidence building within the Bangkok community that VERSO is a leading international school. Our unique mindsets for VERSO empower all of us to be critical and creative thinkers. As a Teaching Assistants you will also need to demonstrate and model our mindsets when tackling problems, designing and collaborating with others. How we gel as a team is incredibly valuable to mentor our learners. How we learn, work and grow together means a lot to us. ● Immerse yourself in the VERSO Vision and develop an understanding of the concept of the school.

● Identify partnerships and prepare for opportunities relating to Verso’s 5 learning experiences and their connection with the 3 pillars and 4 mindsets.

● Adopt a collective approach to support the growth and needs of all learners at VERSO.

● Engage in supporting documentation of learning.

● Foster an open learning culture including

working in flexible shared spaces, adopting co-teaching models, learning in multi-age situations.

● Build and nurture meaningful relationships with learners and their families.

● Conference with learners to support them:

— to make decisions about their own learning, including helping identify learning goals — developing their plans for growth — track progress and provide feedback

● Work in a multi-age environment. ● Facilitate learners to become more

independent decision makers and foster ownership of their future.

● Support learners to channel their unique selves in developmentally appropriate practices: You will encompass a holistic approach that focuses on the social-emotional, cognitive and physical wellbeing of the child. Teaching Assistants will model self-regulation and must have a strong sense of compassion and empathy in order to embolden these values in our learners.

Relevant Experience

● A strong believer and advocate for learner agency and the development of a learner centered environment - willing to engage parents as partners

● Professional experience in a dynamic and perhaps challenging educational environment, preferably in a change leadership context

● A designer’s mindset - evidenced through the application of design thinking

● Fluency in working with teams, as well as familiarity with the process of designing, building and launching educational programs

● Deep empathy for people demonstrated through cultural competence

● The ability to multi-task and work efficiently and effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

● Self-starter who is open, curious, optimistic and passionate about engaging with new challenges

● Natural problem solver, with curiosity and passion for continual improvement

● A sense of humour

● Registered teaching qualification - Post Graduate Educational qualification preferred

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills

● Demonstrated capacity to build partnerships within the community to support the learners in their journey
