KDocs is KPU’s very own Documentary Film Festival, led by learners and educators from all of KPU’s communities. KDocs contributes to KPU’s engagement of various and varied communities, through documentary screenings and community dialogue, in critical thinking and understanding about ourselves, our communities, and our world.

KDocs celebrates the power of documentary film. Working in partnership with the Vancouver International Film Centre + Vancity Theatre, the annual KDocs film festival showcases award-winning documentary films, keynote speakers, filmmakers, panelists, exhibitors, and community members. Participants engage in lively discussion, debate, and dialogue as they investigate today’s most pressing global issues.

Over 500 people are expected to attend KDocs 2016, including KPU students, faculty, staff, alumni, community partners, and the general public. With this audience, KDocs will provoke engagement, dialogue, and creativity, stimulating a critical examination of our complex world. Indeed, it is this kind of interdisciplinary dialogue—within and across KPU’s many communities—that makes KPU exactly the kind of institution where critical debate flourishes and global citizenship takes flight.

KDocs 2016 will feature the following award-winning documentaries:

Uniting learners through social justice, global citizenship, and creative solution-building“ ”

“KDocs is a way for KPU and the Kwantlen Student Association to jointly create safe spaces for dialogue on issues related to social justice and sustainability on a global level. It is our responsibility to be leaders on these issues in our communities and provide a hub for learning and discussion. KDocs has already seen some great success, and we look forward to the amazing shared experiences that will come in the future.”

“KDocs is another instalment in growing KPU’s outreach to its primary stakeholders: the students. The opportunity to provide another avenue for critical thinking, creativity, and innovation is the essence of progressive education. With KDocs, the graduates of KPU and the leaders of tomorrow will be engaged in diverse topics, with social justice as a foundation, in the KPU community as well as our own communities.”

Richard Hosein, KPU Student KPU Board of Governors Member KPIRG Administrative and Resource Coordinator

“Activism is essential to my university experience. KDocs brings social justice issues to a diverse audience. It creates a shared learning experience that is beyond what you learn in a classroom. Every time I attend a screening, I leave knowing a little bit more about the world around me and feeling a closer connection to the people in my community.”
