Cette année, plus de 608 joueurs de curling se réuniront dans 11 clubs de curling de la région de Montréal afin d’amasser des fonds au profit de la Fondation de l’Hôpital pour enfants de Montréal et du CHU Sainte-Justine.

Depuis 1999, K4K a recueilli un total de plus de 1,1 millions de dollars pour les deux hôpitaux. Cette somme leur a permis d’acheter du matériel médical et chirurgical à la fine pointe de la technologie.

Cette année, notre objectif est des plus ambitieux, soit d’amasser 210 000 $. Pour y arriver, nous misons sur notre tout nouveau site Web. Visitez-nous au www.kurlingforkids.com pour découvrir de toutes nouvelles fonctions qui, nous l’espérons, faciliteront grandement notre cueillette de fonds.

Grande nouveauté cette année, le site permet à chaque participant de créer sa propre page de collecte de fonds. Celle-ci peut être entièrement personnalisée avec des photos, un album de messages et même un thermomètre de collecte de fonds. De plus, vous pourrez également créer des pages de groupe, et inviter les membres de votre équipe de curling personnelle à se joindre à vous. Parmi les autres nouveautés, vous retrouverez des fonctions permettant à chaque participant de gérer sa propre liste de contacts, d’envoyer des messages et de faire le suivi des dons amassés. Enfin, n’oubliez pas de visiter notre boutique en ligne offrant plusieurs produits K4K et dont tous les profits iront aux hôpitaux.

Nous sommes aussi très heureux d’annoncer, pour la première fois cette année, la mise en place d’un programme d’incitation à la collecte de fonds. Taking place at eleven Montreal-area curling clubs, this year’s event will have 608 curlers joining together to raise much needed funds for the Montreal Children’s and St-Justine’s Hospital Foundations.

Since 1999, K4K has raised a total of over $1.1 million dollars for the hospitals which has enabled them to purchase leading edge medical and surgical equipment.

Our ambitious goal this year is to raise $210,000 and one of the ways we are hoping to be able to raise this amount is with our new fundraising website - make sure to visit our fully integrated fundraising solution at www.kurlingforkids.com.

For the first time each participant can create their own personal fundraising page, which can be personalized with pictures, personal messages and a fundraising thermometer. And you can also create team pages, and invite other members of your curling team to sign up and join your team. Some other key features on our new site allow each participant to manage their contacts and send out e-mails and follow up on the donations they collect. And make sure to visit our online K4K Boutique for some awesome K4K merchandise - all proceeds from sales go directly to the hospitals.

K4K is also proud to be on Facebook and Twitter - make sure to follow us to get all the latest news and updates.

Also newly introduced this year is the fundraising incentive program. Not only can you be proud of the fact that you are raising funds for sick children, your fundraising efforts will be recognized with amazing incentive prizes - a win-win proposition if there ever was one.

Cryothérapie - équipement en CardiologieLe CHU Sainte-Justine est le plus grand centre hospitalier universitaire mère-enfant au sein du réseau pédiatrique québécois et l’un des plus importants en Amérique du Nord. Pour maintenir sa réputation d’excellence, Sainte-Justine s’est engagé à offrir les meilleurs soins possible pour les enfants à l’aide d’équipements dernier cri. L’hôpital s’est également engagé à promouvoir la santé, à offrir un environnement accueillant pour ses patients et à former la prochaine génération de médecins et les soignants selon les normes les plus élevées.

Le département de cardiologie de Sainte-Justine traite et surveille plus de 7000 patients par an. Afin de fournir des traitements de pointe pour les jeunes patients atteints d’arythmie cardiaque, le département de cardiologie a besoin d’un équipement de haute technologie, la Cryothérapie. Le CHU Sainte-Justine est le seul hôpital pédiatrique à utiliser ce traitement. Il y a actuellement une liste d’attente de 18 mois pour être traité pour ce problème et, si le CHU Sainte-Justine pouvait acquérir cet équipement, la liste d’attente diminuerait de façon significative.

La cryothérapie est un procédé qui retire la chaleur du tissu visé entraînant ainsi son refroidissement et un ralentissement de l’activité cellulaire. Il s’agit d’une alternative sophistiquée aux thérapies thermales pour le traitement des arythmies cardiaques. Le degré de chaleur retiré et la vitesse avec laquelle ce retrait est effectué sont des facteurs qui peuvent être contrôlés, permettant ainsi de produire un effet éphémère ou permanent au niveau cellulaire. Le système unique de Medtronic CryoCath permet de créer, avec précision et minutie, des lésions qui guérissent rapidement.

Le soutien de Kurling for Kids et la générosité des nombreux partenaires et acteurs de ce tournoi permettront aux jeunes patients de Sainte-Justine de bénéficier de traitements et de la technologie les plus avancés ... et de profiter des plus récentes normes en soins.

Cryotherapy - Cardiology equipmentSainte-Justine UHC is Canada’s largest mother-child university hospital centre and one of the most important centres in North America for specialized and ultra-specialized paediatric care. To maintain its reputation for excellence, Sainte-Justine has a commit-ment to discover and provide the best possible care for children using the most advanced equipment, to promote health, to provide a welcoming environment for patients and to train the next generation of doctors and caregivers to the highest possible standard.

Sainte-Justine’s Cardiology Department treats and monitors over 7,000 patients a year. In order to provide leadingedge treatment for young patients, the Cardiology Department is aiming to acquire critical needs equipment. CHU Sainte-Justine is the only paediatric hospital that treats these children. There is currently an 18-month waiting list.

Cryotherapy is a procedure that removes heat from the target tissue, causing it to cool down and thereby triggering a slowdown in cellular activity. The amount of heat removed and the rate at which this occurs are factors that can be controlled so as to produce either a transient or permanent effect on the targeted cells. Medtronic CryoCath’s unique system can be used to create precise lesions that heal quickly.

The support of Kurling for Kids, and the generosity of the many partners and players in this tournament will allow Sainte-Justine’s young patients to benefit from today’s most advanced treatments and technology...and enjoy the highest possible standard of care.

La Fondation CHU Sainte-Justine a l’honneur d’être associée pour une quatorzième année consécutive au tournoi Kurling for Kids. Nous sommes fiers de compter parmi nos plus précieux partenaires l’instigateur de ce projet monsieur Robert Sears, ses partenaires et les nombreuses équipes de curling qui font partie du tournoi.

Depuis le début, la grande communauté de Kurling for Kids a remis à la Fondation plus de 500 000$ pour venir en aide aux jeunes patients de Sainte-Justine et à leur famille. Ce précieux soutien a permis l’achat de plusieurs équipements prioritaires dans des départements tels que la néonatologie et la neurochirurgie.

Cette année, les fonds amassés permettront au service de cardiologie de se procurer un équipement très attendu appelé LA CRYOTHÉRAPIE. La cryothérapie est une technique d’ablation, qui brûle les tissus malades, une alternative sophistiquée aux thérapies thermales pour le traitement des arythmies cardiaques. Un équipement très attendu de la part des cardiologues du CHU Sainte-Justine.

Encore une fois, l’appui de Kurling for Kids permettra à Sainte-Justine d’offrir à ses jeunes patients des équipements à la fine pointe de la technologie.

The Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation is honoured to be associated for the fourteenth time with the Kurling for Kids bonspiel. We are proud to count among our most precious partners Mr. Robert Sears, the initial founder of the tournament and the many partners and clubs who are now part of this annual event.

Over the years, Kurling for Kids has helped raise more than $500,000 for the young patients of Sainte-Justine and their families. This invaluable support has allowed the purchase of priority equipment for many areas including the neonatal and neurosurgery units.

This year, the funds raised by Kurling for Kids, will be used for the Cardiology department. They will purchase a highly anticipated equipment called Cryotherapy.

Cryotherapy is an ablation technique that destroys diseased tissue; it is a sophisticated alternative to thermal therapies for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.

A very anticipated equipment for all the cardiologists at the Saint-Justine UHC.

Once again, Kurling for Kids’s support is helping Sainte-Justine to provide leading-edge equipment to its young patients. On behalf of all our patients, their families and the team at Sainte-Justine, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your on-going support and generosity. Cardiac monitor for Cardiology ($20,000)This equipment provides continuous monitoring with electro-cardiography with assessment of the patient’s condition relative to their cardiac rhythm. This mobile unit measures the patient’s ECG, NIBH, SPO2, and heart rate.

physiological monitor for emergency department ($20,000)Physiologic monitoring systems measure and display waveforms or numerical data for various parameters, including ECG, respiratory rate, blood pressure, body temperature, arterial hemoglobin oxygen saturation, cardiac outputs and airway gas concentrations. Continuous monitoring is a valuable tool that helps provide additional information to the medical and nursing staff about the physiologic condition of the patient. Using this information the clinical staff can better evaluate a patient’s condition and make appropriate treatment decisions. The Children’s Emergency Department is among the busiest in North America, with between 65,000 and 70,000 patient visits every year. These monitors are the department’s top equipment priority.

The proceeds from this year’s tournament will be used to purchase a cardiac monitor for the Cardiology Unit and a physiological monitor for the Emergency Department. Continuous monitoring is a valuable tool that helps provide additional information to the medical and nursing staff about the condition of a patient. Using this information the clinical staff can better evaluate a patient’s condition and make appropriate treatment decisions.

In addition to the purchase of equipment, the Kurling for Kids Organizing Committee has generously pledged to raise $300,000 over the next 5 years towards the creation of the K4K Play Area for the Cardiology Unit of the new Montreal Children’s Hospital. This play area will be equipped for child life activities and creative art therapy for cardiac patients. The goal of the 2012 Bonspiel will be to contribute $65,000 towards this pledge.
