June 5th 2018: World Environment Day:
The chaotic situation of the neighbourhood that we stay in and the conditions of our streets in the city; filled up with non biodegradable waste, giving rise to hazardous situations for the living beings residing in those areas is really pathetic.

June 5th, being World Environment Day, an attempt was made to create awareness among the students and staff alike to bring about some changes in our surrounding living conditions.
Assembly on Tuesday, June 5th saw the students of the Vidyalaya choir voicing a melodious song encouraging everyone not to use plastics and the ill effects of these on our beautiful surroundings.

In a small event attended by the senior students of our institution and graced by Sri. J. Srinivasa Rao – Deputy Municipal Commissioner of GHMC, Dr. Bhargava Narayana- Asst. Medical Officer – Health Department, Rtd. Major Shiva Kiran- Secretary of Welfare association of the Methodist colony, Sri. Sudhakar- parent volunteer, Smt. Padmavathi- person from the Swachh Bharat Committee of the Methodist colony and a few more dignitaries, importance of this particular day was told to everyone.
They explained the need of the segregation of waste into dry and wet wastes, and the ill effects of plastics on humans and animals alike. It has been noticed that animals like cows and fishes have eaten these attractive plastics, expecting them to be food, and have fallen sick and also died in extreme conditions. 40 kgs of plastics was found in the stomach of one dead cow. Citing these examples, Sri. J. Srinivasa Rao and his team felicitated garbage cleaners from this area, who segregated waste and disposed them in the dumping yards. This is a work that no one likes to do. Separating the wet and dry wastes, putting their hands into the garbages thrown by others, without major sanitary or hygienic conditions, putting their health into hazardous conditions is real service which only these workers are doing. They got a huge round of applause for the service rendered and were felicitated with shawls.

Vidyalaya choir children also sang an equally meaningful song about the environment

appreciated by the dignitaries.

The oneness of the Vidyalaya could be felt in the disciplined manner in which children have performed the asanas. This was possible because of lots of practice provided to students by the Yoga teachers and the Physical Education teacher. The students took a pledge to include yoga as part of their daily activities, and maintain good health, mentally and physically. Swamiji Saakshiroopanandaji gave a message stressing the importance of yoga, hand in hand with Bhagavad Geeta. Bhakti TV included a small message by our Yoga teacher, Smt. Hemalatha and Swamiji, along with a view of our students doing the yogasans & pranayamam. This was telecast in the television on the 21st of June in the evening at 7:25 pm.

The immense gift that has been showerd on us is Guruji’s presence and it cannot be put up in words what his contribution has been to the Chinmaya Mission! We thank everyone for the gifts of sweets, chocolates , cakes and so on, but we don’t dwell upon about those immortal gifts, that we take for granted.
Our children have tried to showcase the presence of great gifts that are generally not acknowledged by anyone in this world, unless and until we lose them. The examples put forth and enacted by the children were the presence of parents, sunshine, the power of hearing and so on. Guruji is a gift for the Chinmaya Mission, and His gift to us has been his Infinite Compassion.
