Koondrook Primary School Principal’s Report Welcome back to Term 4. Can you believe we are in our final term of 2018, where has the year gone? We hope that everyone had a safe and happy holiday. Ms Bradford and Mrs Lake will be away this week and Mrs Nicholson and Mrs Frisby will be replacing them. Please let Ms Bradford enjoy her time off and ring the school if your child is absent; please leave a message if the phone is not answered. Walk to School October is Walk to School month. It has been fantastic already to see so many students and families walking, riding or scooting to school. Last year, Koondrook Primary School walked the distance from Koondrook to Canberra in the month of October. I believe that the challenge was set by Lenny to walk to Darwin this year! Let’s all support this fantastic initiative and make the most of the warmer weather. On Thursday 25 th of October, the Gannawarra Shire will be visiting the school. See further in the Newsletter for what the Grade 6 students have organised. Reading Challenge Well done to everyone who completed the Reading Challenge over the holidays. We had 31 students complete it. Our winners were drawn out of the hat from each classroom. Congratulations to Abigail, Mason, Ella H and Emily W. These students will get a chance to choose a book from the next Book Club catalogue. Can you help? The Prep & Grade 1/2 classrooms are always on the lookout for cardboard boxes, magazines and newspaper for our craft and construction areas. Boxes can be any shape or size. 5/6 News

I am looking forward to getting back tomorrow and hearing all about the students’ holiday break.

73 days until the end of term! With that in mind, there will be some tight planning to ensure our year 6 girls are well and truly ready for secondary school and our 5s are set to be the leaders of our school in 2019.

Over the next few weeks the plan is as follows:-

Mathematically we will continue to explore very large numbers as well as negative, prime, ordinal and composite numbers. We will mix that up with fractions, decimals and percentages and some work with division and multiplication. We will also revisit Area and Map Reading.

English wise the Reading plan includes Author Craft and how authors create atmosphere both in text and poetry. We will link this with our creative writing. The students have been working on improving their handwriting. We have a variation of “styles” within the class and the focus continues to be on where letters begin, how they join to the next letter and the size of each letter.

We will also be commencing our final Educational Research Project. I am planning to do things a little bit different this term. If you have any ideas on how the EXPO should go we would appreciate your feedback. The students wondered if there were any parents would like to join them on the EXPO committee.
