OUR VALUES
Aim High Be Respectful Be Resilient Be Responsible
The end of the year is fast approaching, yet there are still many events and jobs to complete in what will be our last full week of school next week. Next Monday’s Assembly will be at 2:30 pm at which our huge Parents & Friends Christmas Raffle will be drawn. There will be the presentation of our House Citizenship competition, 6 classes will be presenting Christmas items, there will be a special Reading Club presentation to a particular Year 6 student and there will be some whole school Christmas singing!! We also have our annual Year 4 Bike Hike on Tuesday the 13th December which will see the students ride the Great Southern Rail Trail from Koonwarra to Leongatha and return to Koonwarra. All of our students involved in the Bike hike are expected to return at approximately 2:00pm At 2:30 pm on Tuesday the 13th December our students will walk up to their new classrooms spend the remainder of the day with their teacher for 2017. This is always an exciting afternoon for our children. On Wednesday the 14th December we have our annual Year 6 Graduation Evening at 7:00 pm in our School Gym when we celebrate our Year 6 students’ time at KPS and especially this their final year of primary school before heading to secondary school. This is always a super night. On Thursday 15th December we have our Open Classrooms Portfolio Presentation evening where students will share highlights of their year’s work with their parents in an open classroom forum. Information about this evening has sent home this week. The classrooms will be open from 4-6pm
On Friday the 16th December we have our final HUGE Assembly at 9:00 which will see a dance performance by some Year 6 girls with some special guest artists assisting. Our 2017 school leaders will be announced. We will be farewelling Mr Nigel Kilpatrick who has taken up a teaching position at Inverloch and of course Mr Dave Gray who has retired after 28 great years at our wonderful school. Our Year 6 students will perform some of their Graduation Evening items and Our Parents & Friends group is also making presentations as we farewell the Year 6 students. A reminder that Monday the 19th December is the last School day for children. Children will be dismissed at 3:30pm. Tuesday the 20th is a Pupil Free day. School Council and P& F I would like to use today’s newsletter to thank the members of our School Council and Parents and Friends’ team for their support and their contribution to our school over the year. We are very fortunate that we have such committed parents who are willing to give up their time and work for the benefit of our school and our students. The excellent governance of our school and the many improvements in facilities and resources would not be possible without the support of these fantastic volunteers who work hard for the benefit of all students. Special thanks to our Executive members of both our organizations and to our School Council President Michelle Villinger and our P & F President Sam Davies who have both had a very successful year in their leadership of these important roles within our school.

Assistant Principal’s Report
Semester Reports At the end of next week, parents will be able to access their child’s Semester 2 report on Compass. To parents who have requested a printed version, these will be ready for collection on Friday 16th. The reports are accessed by parents but we suggest that parents/ guardians sit down with their children and discuss the reports with them. This will ensure that you can discuss strengths, celebrate successes and decide how areas of concern can be addressed. Teachers spend considerable time and effort when compiling and writing these reports and the information included in them should inform parents and students about the current levels of achievement. Please be aware that we have a very rigorous editing process where the reports are checked and re-checked to overcome any errors; however it is quite possible that some errors may have slipped through the safety net. If there are such mistakes on your child’s report please let the class teacher know, or alert either Mr Gray or myself through the Office, and we will arrange for a reprint. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff for their hard work in compiling and writing these reports. It is a very demanding part of teachers’ duties that take a lot of time. I would also like to thank Mr Gray for leading us through this process. It is always challenging. Thanks also to Mr Dan Wells, Betty Hall (office), Paul Jones and Doug Alexander for their I.C.T. support throughout this demanding process. Please note that the reports will be available for viewing on Compass at the ned of next week. Volunteers Morning Tea On Tuesday our staff and school volunteers shared morning tea. The morning tea was our way of acknowledging and thanking our fantastic parent volunteers that have contributed to helping out at school wherever and whenever possible. We are so fortunate to have such an active and supportive parent community. Thank you!
(Continued from page 1) Christmas Wheelbarrow Raffle Thank you to our very generous parents who have donated to our annual Christmas Wheelbarrow Raffle. The wheelbarrow is over-flowing with goodies. Your generosity is most certainly going to ensure that the lucky winner has a Christmas to remember. A reminder that the raffle will be drawn at next Monday’s assembly.
Reading Club This morning our Reading Club shared a Christmas breakfast to celebrate another successful year. To give an indication of just how successful it has been this year, Mrs Brenda Jones has recorded almost 3000 visits for the year. This is an amazing record. We are so proud of the students’ dedication and commitment to practicing their reading. I would like to pass on a huge thank to Brenda, Helen, and our ES staff for providing this opportunity to our students. Thank you also to our parents for supporting your child to attend.

extended absence. Haley is pictured with Cherie Douglas at the Parent
