1. Product introduction

This data booklet deals with KPL (submersible axial-flow propeller pumps) and KWM (submersible mixed-flow pumps). This data booklet version is November 2013. A newer version might be available for download from Grundfos WebCAPS or Grundfos GO CAPS.

The KPL and KWM pumps are fitted with 11-700 kW motors. The motors are either 6-, 8-, 10-, 12-, 14- or 16-pole motors, depending on motor size.

The pumps are made of resistant materials, such as cast iron and stainless steel. These materials ensure good durability in stormwater and wastewater applications.

The pumps are suitable for different installation types. Please contact Grundfos for installation recommendations.

ApplicationsThe pumps are specifically designed for pumping stormwater and wastewater in a wide range of municipal and industrial applications, such as the following:

• flood and stormwater control

• drainage/irrigation of large quantities of water

• raw-water intake

• transfer of liquids in large-scale municipal sewage treatment plants

• circulation of large quantities of water in water theme parks, etc.

2. Performance range

4. Selection of product

Ordering a pumpWhen ordering a KPL or KWM pump, you need to take the following four aspects into consideration:

1. pump

2. custom-built variation (option)

3. accessories

4. controller.

PumpUse the performance range overview on page 5 to find a suitable pump size for the required duty point.

Then proceed to the individual curve charts in Curve charts on pages 21-53 to find the specific pump variant that best fulfils your need.

Custom-built variantsThe KPL and KWM pumps can be customised to meet individual requirements. Many pump features and options are available for customising, e.g. explosion-proof versions, various cable lengths or special materials.

The most common variants can be seen in the list of Variants on page 9. For requirements or designs not included in the list, please contact Grundfos.

Number of starts:The pumps are designed for continuous operation or for intermittent operation. The maximum number of starts allowed:

In order to avoid overloading of windings, seals and bearings, the above numbers of starts must not be exceeded.

AccessoriesDepending on the installation type, you may need to order accessories. See Accessories on page 54 for selection of the correct accessories.

7. Product description

Features

Bearings

The bearings are greased for life.

Main bearings

Angular contact ball bearings and roller bearing with angle ring.

Support bearings

Single-row deep-groove ball bearing and roller bearing.

Shaft seals

The pumps have a primary and a secondary shaft seal.

The material combination of the primary shaft seal in all pump types is silicon carbide/silicon carbide. For the secondary shaft seal, the material combination is silicon carbide/silicon carbide.

The shaft seal consists of two mechanical seals and separates the motor from the pumped liquid.

The shaft seal is a cartridge seal for easy service. The combination of the primary and secondary seals in a cartridge results in a shorter assembly length compared to conventional shaft seals. Furthermore, this design minimizes the risk of incorrect fitting.

Turbulence optimiser

The turbulence optimiser is an innovative solution for reducing turbulence in the gap between the pump volute and the column pipe. A further positive effect is that misalignment and production tolerances of the column pipe no longer affect efficiency.

Turbulence optimisation is only possible if the pump is mounted in the column size for which the pump is intended. Turbulence optimisation is not possible if the pump is mounted in oversize column pipe.

Motor

The motor is a watertight, totally enclosed motor.

• Insulation class: F.

• Temperature rise class: F.

• Enclosure class: IP68.

Power cables

The power cable is of the 0.6/1KV PNCT (standard) or 0.6/1KV PNCT-S (screened) type.

The cables are 10 m long as standard. Other cable lengths are available on request.

• Maximum conductor temperature: +90 °C.

• Maximum ambient temperature: +40 °C.

• Minimum ambient temperature: -20 °C.

• Conductor: Stranded plain copper conductor, class 5 (IEC 60228).

• Insulation: Extruded EP rubber.

• Sheath: Extruded black rubber (CR rubber).

• Marking: 4-core cable: Green, White, Black, Red. 7-core cable: Green, Black, Black, White, White, Red, Red.

Control cables

The pumps have 0.6/1KV PNCT (combined power and control cable) or screened 0.6/1KV PNCT-S (non-combined).

Cable entry

Watertight stainless steel, soft-shaped cable entry and sealing rings to prevent damage of the cable or leaks. The cable entry has a user-friendly design enabling quick and easy disconnection of the cable. Only two bolts need to be removed to remove the cable entry.

Cable suspension system

The cable suspension system will be designed for the individual purpose. See page 55 for principal sketch, or contact Grundfos for further information.

Sensors

The table shows the difference between standard product and FPV (factory product variant) product as to the number of sensors.

FPV sensor versions can be chosen individually from the table.

(1) Three Pt-100 sensors are mounted in the pump from factory, but only one sensor is connected as standard. It is not possible to connect all 3 stator thermal sensors, if bearing sensors also is connected

Customised sensor options

• PVS 3 (pump vibration sensor). The vibration sensor monitors the vibration level of the pump. A change in the vibration level indicates an abnormal situation. The cause of this can be a clogged propeller/impeller, worn bearings, closed discharge valve, etc., indicating that service inspection should be carried out now in order to protect the pump or the pipe system from being damaged.

• WIO (water-in-oil) sensor. The WIO sensor measures the water content in the oil and converts the value into an analogue current signal. The two sensor conductors are for power supply as well as for carrying the signal to the measuring device or controller. The sensor measures the water content from 0 to 20 %. It also sends a signal if the water content is outside the normal range (warning), or if the oil level is so low that the sensor is in the air (alarm). The sensor is fitted in a stainless steel tube for mechanical protection. The WIO sensor can be connected to the Grundfos IO 113 module.

IO 113 module

The IO 113 module is a protection module for Grundfos stormwater/wastewater pumps.

The IO 113 has inputs for digital and analog pump sensors and can stop the pump if a sensor indicates a pump fault.

IO 113 can be connected to Grundfos Dedicated Controls system and allows advanced monitoring functions:

• motor temperature

• moisture in motor

• water in oil

• insulation resistance.

SM 113 module

The SM 113 module is used for collection and transfer of sensor data in pumps, having a large numbers of sensors attached.

The SM 113 module can be placed either inside the pump (allowing fewer sensor leads out of the pump) or in the control cabinet next to the pump installation.

SM 113 works together with IO 113 through power line communication using the Grundfos GENIbus protocol.

SM 113 can collect data from:

• 3 current sensors, 4-20 mA

• 3 Pt100 thermal sensors or 3 Pt1000 thermal sensors

• 1 PTC thermal sensor

• 1 digital input.

Level controllers

Grundfos offers a wide range of pump controllers to keep a watchful eye on liquid levels in stormwater and wastewater applications, and to ensure correct operation and protection of the pumps.

Dedicated Controls

Grundfos Dedicated Controls is a control system that can control and monitor one to six Grundfos pumps and a mixer or a flush valve.

Dedicated Controls is used in installations requiring advanced control and data communication.

Dedicated Controls is available either as separate control components or as complete control cabinets.

The control system can be operated by the following:

• float switches

• a level sensor

• a level sensor and safety float switches.

The control cabinet is available as standard for the following pump sizes and starting methods:

• pumps up to and including 9 kW, direct-on-line starting

• pumps up to and including 30 kW, star-delta starting

• pumps up to and including 30 kW, soft starter.

By using the separate control components, practically any size of control cabinet can be designed.

Testing

All pumps are tested before leaving the factory. The factory test report is based on the ISO 9906:2012 standard. Test reports can be ordered directly with the pump or can be ordered separately based on the pump serial number.

Performance test is carried without turbulence optimiser.

Other tests or third-party inspection certificates are available on request. See Variants on page 9.

When pumping liquids with a density and/or a kinematic viscosity higher than that of water, use motors with correspondingly higher outputs.

How to select a pumpSelect a pump based on the required duty point, operating range and safety range (if required in the application). Use the curve charts on pages 23 to 53 to select the pump.

Select pump hydraulics first and motor size afterwards. Below is an example of how to choose a pump which is suitable for a specific application:

1. Duty point (H = 5 m and 1910 l/s), specified by customer.

2. Operating range (1750 l/s to 2000 l/s), specified by customer.

3. Q-H curve is obtained at a propeller angle of 19 °(use impeller diameter for KWM pumps).

4. P2 at duty point 115 kW.

5. P2max in operating range 128 kW (at a flow of 1750 l/s).Use P2max for calculation of motor size.

6. Calculate motor size and select model:Pmotor = P2max* 1.1 (10 % safety margin, specified by customer)Pmotor = 128* 1.1 = 140.8 kWPmotor ≤ rated motorRated motor above Pmotor 160 kWSelected model; KPL.1000.160.10.T.50.19.L.

WebCAPS

WebCAPS is a Web-based Computer Aided Product Selection program available on www.grundfos.com.

WebCAPS contains detailed information on more than 220,000 Grundfos products in more than 30 languages.

Information in WebCAPS is divided into six sections:

Catalogue

Based on fields of application and pump types, this section contains the following:• technical data• curves (QH, Eta, P1, P2, etc.) which can be adapted to the

density and viscosity of the pumped liquid and show the number of pumps in operation

Literature

Sizing

This section is based on different fields of application and installation examples and gives easy step-by-step instructions in how to size a product:• Select the most suitable and efficient pump for your

installation.• Carry out advanced calculations based on energy,

consumption, payback periods, load profiles, life cycle costs, etc.

• Analyse your selected pump via the built-in life cycle cost tool.• Determine the flow velocity in wastewater applications, etc.

Replacement

In this section you find a guide to selecting and comparing replacement data of an installed pump in order to replace the pump with a more efficient Grundfos pump. The section contains replacement data of a wide range of pumps produced by other manufacturers than Grundfos.

Based on an easy step-by-step guide, you can compare Grundfos pumps with the one you have installed on your site. When you have specified the installed pump, the guide will suggest a number of Grundfos pumps which can improve both comfort and efficiency.

CAD drawings

In this section, it is possible to download 2-dimensional (2D) and 3-dimensional (3D) CAD drawings of most Grundfos pumps.

These formats are available in WebCAPS:

2-dimensional drawings:• .dxf, wireframe drawings• .dwg, wireframe drawings.
