Korando disco spring tutorial

3
I have just changed the back springs on my Korando with Landrover Discovery springs so thought I would write a small tutorial with pictures. I opted for the NRC2119 springs which are listed as the front springs on a Landrover discovery 1. I believe these springs are also used on some early Range Rovers on the back. Alternatively you can opt for the NTC8572 springs which are the standard rear Discovery 1 springs. These are slightly more heavy duty than the NRC2119 springs so you may want to consider these if you do very heavy towing. 1) First slacken off the nuts on the shock absorbers and wheels. Next unbolt the panhard rod. You only need to do this on one side. As shown in the picture I did this where it bolts to the axle. 2) jack the vehicle up and support the chassis on axle stands both sides

3) Remove the wheels and remove the shock absorbers.

4) Place a scissor jack between the axle and the chassis and gently wind the jack. This will push the axle down far enough so you can remove the old spring. When this spring falls out place the new spring in place and release the jack. Now do this on the other side.

5) Put everything back and that's really all there is to it. Some members recommended unbolting brake lines, however I did not do this and did not notice any undue stress. refit shock absorbers and wheels. When I refitted the shock absorbers I went for some replacements with an extra 2" of travel since Discovery springs will raise the vehicle. You may also want to wind the front torsion bars up slightly to level the vehicle, however I will make another tutorial on this.

Here is a picture of an old spring next to a new spring. As you can see the difference is quite apparent.
