As I mentioned at both recent P&C and School Council meetings as well as last week’s Presentation Night, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as relieving principal this year at Kootingal Public School. I don’t know who will be the principal next year, however if I am afforded the opportunity to stay on I will certainly do so. It is good as a new leader coming into a school, to implement changes and I believe this year we have changed things that have been positive for the effective running of the school. I look forward to continuing to work with the staff, students and community for the benefit of the school if the opportunity arises. I take this opportunity to again publicly thank Mrs Shauna Stoker, who has worked with us here at Kootingal for the past two years. Mrs Stoker has led us over these two years, sharing her expertise, in her role of Highly Accomplished Teacher. She has been a committed, dedicated and valued staff member and we wish her all the best as she leaves us at the end of the year. Student reports will be sent home this Friday. We take the role of assessing our students and reporting to parents very seriously. The reports are read by a number of people, including the class supervisors and myself, before they are printed and distributed. Hopefully there won’t be any mistakes in the reports, however if there is a spelling error or something omitted, please return the report and it will be corrected and returned to you. I would like to express my thanks on behalf of the school to the Kootingal Bowling Cricket Club, who kindly donated some cricket gear to our school. We received a set of water bottles as well as a dozen Commonwealth Bank wooden cricket stumps, bails and a ball counter. These will come in very handy when we play in our PSSA Knockout Cricket competition next year. If you are buying new school shoes for your child or children at the beginning of the 2013 school year, could I please encourage you to choose shoes that fit in with our school uniform policy. Black school shoes should not be jiffy style shoes made of canvas or material, because they don’t offer enough protection for your child’s feet. They have soft soles and sides and are open at the top. Children need to be able to safely run and be involved in outdoor activities. Lace up shoes or boots or Velcro shoes offer the best protection. Our students look wonderful when they are wearing correct uniform. You might remember Tony Windsor making a comment about how good our students looked at last week’s Presentation Night. I trust that you will have a restful and enjoyable holiday and family time over Christmas. Dear Parents This year, to help parents provide some of the materials their child/ren will need to start the new year, the school has prepared a list of requirements. Please avoid buying cheaper brands such as pencils/textas/glue sticks etc as they don’t last due to the quality. This particularly applies to glue sticks. NO WHITE OUT PLEASE School Bag must be big enough to fit a library book and home reading folders. Please be aware that the school is mindful of the expenses parents incur in sending their children to school and therefore these have been kept to a minimum. Obviously the school will provide many other materials that your child will need in order to have a happy and successful year in his/her class.REMEMBER: The P & C are selling Stationary Packs, Stage 1 cost $22 and we have just order Stage 2 and 3 packs. Hopefully they will arrive before the end of the year. All packs will be available through the clothing pool.

End of Year Games-a-thon Day

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

On Wednesday 19th December, Kootingal Public School is having a games-a-thon day. It will be set up as a tabloid event, where groups of students rotate through a series of outdoor activities. All activities are physically motivated and are planned to be lots of fun.

Because the day will be run outside, ALL students must wear a broad-brimmed hat (the school hat is just right), they must have a water bottle that they can replenish from the bubblers if needed, a sleeved top and pants that are suitable for getting wet (rash vest and board-shorts are OK) and they must have closed shoes – joggers/sneakers will be suitable, or water shoes if your child has them. It is planned that many activities will have a water component to them, so this is why we ask for clothes that can get wet.

Sunscreen will be available throughout the day

The day will progress along the following timetable:

• 9:30am School Assembly and children put into groups• 9:45am 1st rotation• 10:00am 2nd rotation• 11:15am 3rd rotation• 11:30am LUNCH (Eating Time)• 11:45am 4th rotation• 12:00pm 5th rotation• 12:15pm 6th rotation• ACTIVITY BREAK (1/2 hour)• 12:45pm 7th rotation• 1:00pm 8th rotation• 1:15pm 9th rotation• 1:30pm “Crunch and Sip” break – students will need a piece of fruit/vegetable sticks and drink• 1:45pm 10th rotation• 2:00pm 11th rotation• 2:15pm final rotation• AFTERNOON TEA BREAK (1/2 hour)• 2:45pm back into classrooms

If you feel that you would like to assist on the day, your help would be greatly appreciated. Please complete and return the following note to your child’s classroom teacher before Tuesday 18th December.

Many thanks,Mrs Simpson and Mrs Lawrence
