Congratulations to Emma Jarrett, Damikah Barwick-Taylor, Jessie Johnson, Jordan Byrne and Brenden Thompson on their selection in the Tamworth Zone Football team. Congratulations also to Emma who was successful in gaining selection to the Tamworth Zone Girls Hockey team. All students will compete in the next round of selection trials in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to our Open Cricket team who took on Tamworth South PS yesterday. Kootingal batted first with Bailey Hilton and Brenden Thompson both top scoring with 14 runs each combining for a team total of 77.

In the field we were just as amazing. Our bowling team of Luke Sydenham, Bailey Hilton, Taite Goodfellow, Emma Jarrett and Jordan Byrne combined well to have Tamworth South at 8 for 8 after 14 overs. KPS bowled Tamworth South out for 27. The whole team fielded exceptionally well with some breath taking catches from Brenden Thompson and Darcy Harris.

A big thank you to Amery Thomspon for scoring, our supportive family members for transportation and encouragement, Farrer MAHS for the use of their grounds and Kurt Barton for umpiring. Also thank you to Mrs Blinman for your organisation and Mr Cracknell for coaching the children each break when working.

The team takes on either Timbumburri or Westdale in the next round.

Thank you to our P&C who conducted their AGM this week. Thank you to our outgoing office bearers for your work and determination throughout the course of 2018. In 2018, our P&C invested over $30,900 in Kootingal Public School. This is a massive contribution to our students and it was not possible without the support of our committee.

Congratulations to our office bearers for 2019. They are • President - Bec Pollard • Vice President - Vanessa Johnson • Treasurer - Scott Cracknell • Secretary - Tina Sipple • Canteen Coordinator - Kelly-Lee Rankin • Fundraising Committee - Nicole Chegwyn, Noni Kasch

and Kim Green.

The P&C set a date for their annual trivia night on Saturday 1st June 2019. Keep that date in your diaries. The P&C are also conducting a Pie Drive. What a great way to stock freezers for a quick winter dinner. More information on both the trivia night and pie drive coming soon.

At the general meeting, Mrs Jo Cayzer and Mrs Vanessa Johnson volunteered to be a part of the working group to review the current girls’ summer uniform in line with the department’s new policy. This policy indicates that girls must have a shorts option as a part of the uniform requirements. Currently, Kootingal Public School has a pants option for winter. Please note, the working group is only reviewing the girls’ summer uniform. This process will take the entire school year with a three-year phase in period.

During Weeks 10 and 11 this term, Kootingal Public School conducts Parent Teacher Interviews. We have kept the same process as last year with interviews scheduled over the two weeks (two Tuesdays – 2nd April and 9th April) between 4pm and 6pm to cater for families and their increasing demands. Families can schedule the interviews using the School Interviews hyperlink here. The code is 6zrxa. If you have any issues, please contact the school. Please note the option to secure an interview will close 9am each day of the interviews. This is so teachers are aware of appointment times and can plan accordingly.

Parent Teacher Interviews are a wonderful opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher. We spend a lot of time with our children and we are always willing to talk with you about your child and the progress within the classroom. If you have not been able to schedule an appointment as yet, please do so. Using the School Interviews website is straight forward and you are able to plan your interviews to suit your family.

A reminder for our families of the movie night scheduled for this Thursday evening. The movie night starts at 6pm and is expected to finish between 7:30-7:45pm. Please note Kootingal Public School still does not have a working text messaging service. As a result, Mrs Cracknell will not be able to send a text message to alert families as to when the movie will finish. Thank you to our P&C for providing this opportunity for our children.

Good luck to our Stage 3 students who are competing in the Science and Engineering Challenge Taster Day this Friday at the TREC. I am sure you will enjoy the day of fun and creativity. Thank you to the Tamworth Rotary Club for again hosting this program. Thank you also to Miss Kelly for your organisation.

This week our focus for PBL is on the third of our whole school expectations ‘Report uses to a teacher immediately’. This comes under the core value Safe.

At our Monday afternoon assembly, Ella Dwyer of Year 1 informed the student cohort of what the word immediately meant and in direct fashion she said that it was to do it straight away. All students agreed that an issue is not reported at the end of break time when it occurred at the start. Congratulations also to Codie Hogan of Year 6 as he earned 100 house points for his house of Dwyer by knowing the colour of and symbol on the sign of this week’s expectation. This just demonstrates our students are vigilant and the posters are well known and distributed throughout the school.

This week, Mrs Cracknell is meeting with the Assistant Principal PBL, Miss Sally O’Connor, regarding the implementation of PBL into our classrooms in 2020. At present, the KPS PBL team is looking at the changes needed and the pathway required to ready our school for implementation in 2020.

Below is our scope and sequence for Term 1.

Breakfast Club will again be providing toast and juice to all students in 2019. It will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Thank you to Baker’s Delight for supplying our bread and the many families who have made donations.

Mrs Jan Morrish Breakfast Club Organiser

All students must have a library bag for home borrowing. If you need a library bag, the Library is selling them for $2, which will be spent on purchasing more books for the Library.

Book Club - Orders with money are due back to the front office by Friday 22nd March 2019. Online orders will also be due on Friday 22nd March 2019.

Thank you to all parents who ordered from Issue 1, the school has purchased new library books with the money received in rewards. Every purchase made through Book Club results in the school receiving 20% of the order spend in Scholastic Rewards. This is used to purchase new books for our library.
