The company prides itself on strong communication and collaboration to deliver high quality customer service and

to get more people into the right jobs. It helps match companies and employees across a variety of industries,

finding roles from full time work to part time or holiday jobs.

CHALLENGEProtecting data across disparate office locations

Detailed company and individual information underpins Konvert’s ability to match potential employees to jobs. This

information and other critical systems and data across Konvert’s numerous offices must be adequately protected.

The company’s existing backup solution, however, was not meeting its needs.

As Koen Vanneste, CIO/CTO of Konvert explains, “We had continuous problems with our backup solution: it was

unreliable, sometimes backups wouldn’t run at all and we were constantly faced with different challenges.”

With Konvert’s IT estate comprising a combination of both Windows and Linux servers, it was keen to find a

reliable backup solution that would enable it to manage backup for its disparate IT estate from a central interface.

“We found that many of the solutions on the market had issues with Linux servers,” says Vanneste. “We needed

something flexible enough to cope with backing up our workstations, Windows and Linux servers without being

complex to manage.”

A proof of concept exercise with Arcserve UDP demonstrated the solution’s ability to seamlessly protect Konvert’s

heterogeneous IT estate.

Another key factor in the decision to deploy Arcserve UDP was its simple licensing model. “Following the proof of

concept exercise we were confident that Arcserve UDP was the best product on the market for us, and its licensing

model fit our needs,” comments Vanneste.

By opting for the Arcserve UDP Appliance 7000, Konvert can back up its systems without concerns about server

and data volumes. “Not having to worry about changing our licence if we have staff or technology changes is a big

advantage for us,” says Vanneste.

The solution was also quick and easy to set up. “Arcserve is intuitive to use, but the workshops and bootcamp we

attended were really valuable for us,” confirms Vanneste. “We didn’t have to spend time reading manuals to get the

solution to work.”

The Arcserve UDP 7000 Appliance now backs up the 20 terabytes of data underpinning Konvert’s business

activities every night. It also runs four-hourly backups for critical services such as databases and emails, so files

can be easily restored in the event of accidental loss or deletion.

Data from Konvert’s multiple offices is backed up at the company’s head office. It is then deduplicated and

replicated across two buildings to protect against disasters such as fire or flooding.

Arcserve UDP’s reporting function and logs flag any unsuccessful backups to the IT team, enabling them to drill

down and investigate why a failure has occurred. Vanneste adds, “The most likely cause of a failure is actually that

the user has forgotten to connect their laptop to the docking station!”
