FROM THE ADMIN TEAM – Clare Roser, Kate Fleay and Morgan Dezotti-Hartnup IPS Progress
As you are reading this week’s newsletter, Ros Marinoni and I will have presented Kojonup District High School’s bid to
become an Independent Public School. We faced a panel of three principals and a moderator who listened to our
presentation and that of 4 other schools. Sessions began in Perth on Wednesday, continued on Thursday and finished
in Bunbury today. In all, there were 35 schools in this IPS round. Successful schools will be notified by 26th June. If
successful, this will be a wonderful step forward to re-invigorate.
Reports
Staff are currently preparing Semester One reports. These will go out with students on Friday 3rd July. No reports will
be released before this date, so if you are expecting your child to be absent, you will need to pick up the report from
school in Term Three.
You will notice that this report will not be as informative as previous reports, for all subject areas. Primary students will
receive an individualised comment for English, Maths and General Comment. Other subject areas will have an effort
and may have a brief comment mentioning progress and content taught. There will be NO learning area grades, this
semester. Most Secondary students will receive a detailed comment for Maths, English and HASS, along with a rating
for attitude, behaviour and effort for all subjects taught. The General Comment; usually written by the Form Teacher,
will be done by Mrs Fleay or Mrs Roser, this semester. The Department of Education have included a short explanation
for the changes you will see for the Semester One report. Reports for Semester Two, will be detailed for each subject
and include a learning area grade for all subjects.
Career Counselling
Our Year 10 students have been receiving some targeted career counselling from Mrs Webb as part of their HASS
studies. This will be complimented by a visit from Mr Lindsay Campbell, next Wednesday. Mr Campbell heads the
Engagement and Participation Team in Albany and is expert in designing and giving advice on Year 11/12 pathways,
including TAFE and Work Placement options. He will be conducting an individual meeting with each Year 10 student
and will then develop a plan to share with parents. I will advise parents regarding the schedule for meetings, in Term
Three, to conduct student/parent conferences.
Ms Norrish
Today we farewell Ms Megan Norrish. Megan has been working in the Year 5 class as part of her final teaching practice
before becoming a fully qualified teacher. I have observed Ms Norrish on several occasions and am confident she will
excel wherever she is placed. From all of the students and the Kojonup District High School community, we wish you all
the best for the future and thank you for the care and interest you have taken, in working with our Year 5 class.
Enjoy the weekend
Mrs Clare Roser
Hello to our school Community, Week 8 finished already! Time has flown with such a huge amount of work being
completed despite all of the COVID interruptions.
School Photos
Many of you will be wondering why you have only just received your photo information with photos being on Tuesday.
We had originally had the date of Tuesday 23rd June pencilled in but when the COVID disruption took place the
company were going to cancel that appointment. Only a couple of weeks ago they let us know that they were still going
to go ahead as planned on the Tuesday. The school returned all the paperwork our end but have only just now received
the ordering pages. We got them out to you as soon as we could. We know that this means ordering in that time frame
will be difficult for some of our families so I have spoken with MSP Photography and they agreed to extend the payment
date beyond the 6 days, until the 3rd of July. I hope this helps.

more, please contact one of the admin team.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Mrs Kate Fleay
FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE – Annie Hornby Hello families, There are a couple of cases of Molluscum in the primary school, I would just like to emphasize the importance of covering Molluscum with band-aids on areas of skin that are exposed ie. arms, legs, face and neck and the importance of hand washing if your child has them. They are highly contagious via linen or contact with the Molluscum itself. They may stay for a week or up to several months. Treatment is as noted below. What do they look like? Molluscum usually are a small round raised area, similar to a wart appearance. They usually cluster but are not normally itchy unless irritated.
GREEN TEAM NEWS We are pleased to say Kojonup DHS is moving forward and making another positive environmental change. As you are
aware, during COVID-19 isolation period the newsletter was only available in digital form and we have decided to keep
this as a permanent change.
On average, we were using 4 reams of paper per term, which equals to 2000 sheets! This in itself is a great positive
change for our future, but wait there is more benefits to this change.
Not only are we having a positive impact on the environment by saving on paper and printer ink, we are also saving
on costs!
Per term we would spend on paper and ink an average of $500 per term, that’s $2000 each year spent on the newsletter!
Now, not only are we actively doing our bit for the environment, we are also saving on costs, which can be spent on
other resources within the school.
Our newsletter is also available on our website https://www.kojonupdhs.wa.edu.au/

PBS (Positive Behaviour Support) Student engagement does not occur spontaneously – it is the result of a teacher putting specific effective strategies into
