Ko Universitys faculty attracts an enriching combination of Turkeys most established senior researchers and recent PhDs from top research institutions worldwide. Almost all full-time professors have doctoral degrees, 95% of which are from leading universities in the United States and Europe. The remaining 5% are recruited from top Turkish universities. 11 of the 80 members of the Turkish Academy of Sciences are Ko University Faculty. Ko University's junior faculty members were awarded 25 of the 219 Outstanding Young Scholar Awards presented by the Turkish Academy of Sciences in the last ten years. Many of the faculty members are also the recipients of the Science and Junior Science awards of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, the most prestigious scientific awards in the country. Many research projects at Ko University are supported by The European Research Council and The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. Ko niversitesi Mhendislik Fakltesi Ko Universitys main campus was completed in 2000 and consists of sixty buildings: academic colleges, administrative offices, laboratories, library, social and sports facilities, student dormitories and faculty residences. All main campus buildings are located on a sprawling 62-acre estate. Drawing upon warm and natural materials, the architecture is a blend of the historical style of stanbul and the timeless characteristics of well-established academic institutions. Ko University dormitories have a capacity of 2,334 students, and the campus includes 102 apartments constructed for faculty housing. The classrooms and laboratories are equipped with the latest technological infrastructure and support systems. Additionally, excellent athletic and recreational facilities are available to all members of the Ko University family. Ko University recently completed the construction of a new residential complex in the West Campus that accommodates 900 students. This site is 1.5 miles from the main campus and includes dining halls, recreational areas and sports facilities. Ko niversitesi Mhendislik Fakltesi OFF-SITE CAMPUS FACILITIES Nianta Campus is the downtown campus of Ko University and houses the School of Nursing. Its location is adjacent to the VKV American Hospital. This campus provides residential and dining facilities, conference halls, classrooms, group study rooms as well as a library and a fitness center,. Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations (RCAC) is located in downtown Beyolu and currently houses 10 pre-doctoral and 10 post- doctoral fellows from around the world. These students focus their academic pursuits on the study of civilizations that flourished in modern Turkey. The facility has two specialized libraries, residential and dining facilities, conference rooms and exhibition halls. stinye Campus is the old campus, where Ko University started in It is located near the business and financial districts. It serves part-time students in executive education programs, the executive MBA program, and the Masters degree program in Finance. In the future, this center will offer evening and weekend courses in such programs as Masters of Law. The stinye campus offers residential facilities, conference halls, classrooms and group study rooms. Ko niversitesi Mhendislik Fakltesi SCHOOL OF MEDICINE Driven by an aspiration to introduce new and different concepts into the Turkish medical education system, Ko University has founded its School of Medicine, intended to open its doors to students in the 2010/2011 academic year. Delivery of fundamentals is required in the first year within the liberal arts core program. Students are involved in research as early as in the 2nd year. Molecular fundamentals of diseases are emphasized in forth and fifth year clinical courses. Ko niversitesi Mhendislik Fakltesi SCHOOL OF NURSING Ko University offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The School of Nursing is located in Niantas, adjacent to the American Hospital. The curriculum emphasizes the nursing process, problem- based learning, and integration of theoretical and clinical studies. Special attention is placed on the clinical practice of nursing and proficiency in the English language. The undergraduate program combines a rigorous academic curriculum with more than 1000 hours of intensive clinical practice and more than 400 contact hours of English instruction. Students complete their clinical intensives at the American Hospital, as well as other government, social security, and university hospitals and clinics in the stanbul region.
