• Promotion of Batibus solution• installation bus medium originally developed by Schneider Electric• especially successful in France• use especially in electrical material and HVAC appliances

– EIBA• Promotion of EIB solution• installation bus medium/protocol originally developed by Insta-Siemens-Merten• especially successful in German speaking countries• use especially in electrical material and HVAC appliances• Attempt to standardise EIB in the framework of CENELEC TC205 – only standardisation of HBES hardware requirements in EN 50090-2-2 succeeded

– EHSA• Promotion of European Home Systems• Bus medium/protocol emanating from a European project for automatic configuration of networked white (washing machine, …) and brown (video, …) goods

• ‘97 : Start of the convergence process - goals– Bundling activities of BCI, EIBA, EHSA in a new association

•A non-profit organisation with registered office in Belgium• Income : annual member contributions (staggered according to company size) – certification fees

(e.g. software houses, …), no licensees•organisational structure: General Assembly, Executive Board, Technical and Marketing Boards (with respective expert and working groups)

been suspended• EIBA remains in existence however only for

KNX: current status technical• KNX Specifications Version 1.0 published (May 2002)• IPR Clearance of these specifications positively concluded :

– All patent rights of the members that are according to the specifications necessary for the development of a KNX compatible product, are licensed free of charge to other Konnex members for use in KNX certifiedproducts.

– No other bus association has a similar open and comprehensive system for Home and Building Control

• First KNX (only) devices for Radio Frequency and HVAC Applications submitted for certification

• KNX Specifications Version 1.1– Published in March 2004– clearance process ongoing– Extensions:

• Improvements A-mode• Radio Frequency• KNX via IP (pre-standard version) • USB-interface, distributed Power supply, new Line coupler

• 06/2000– Konnex Association (at that time still called EHBESA) becomes co-operating partner

of CENELEC– authorizes Konnex to directly submit standard proposals to CENELEC Bureau

Technique (BT)– CENELEC cooperating partners are meant to « represent with a sufficient degree of

representativity a sector of the electotechnical field » : therefore assessment in relevant technical committee appointed by BT of editorial nature

• 12/2001 - Submission to CENELEC Bureau Technique– KNX Twisted pair standard– KNX kernel (LL, NL, TL, AL)– KNX Network Management Procedures

• 05/2002 : Konnex internal publication of version 1.0 of the KNX standard• 11/2002 – Submission to BT of KNX Powerline standard• 12/2002 – Submission of above EN 50090 parts to six months Unique

Acceptance procedure – approval by relevant national committees• 06/2003 – positive vote of national committees - submission for ratification to BT• 12/2003 – ratification received by BT

• Submission of additional standard parts in CEN– KNX over IP specifications for integration into ENV 13321-2 as

successor to EIBnet IP specifications

Standards for intelligent buildings: summary• Added value of « intelligence » of buildings can only

be achieved by systems that– Are offered by a large variety of manufacturers,

preferably organised in manufacturer/standardisation associations

– Cover different application domains– Have low threshold for starting contractors and planners– Can be used for smallscale (residential) as well

commercial projects (offices, hotels, airports, …) – ensure multi-vendor and cross-discipline

interoperability– Have system and interworking requirements that are

verified through a solid certification procedure using third party test houses

– Conform to European standards as this increases user’s feeling of security/quality
