Mark is the Head of the SME programmes at the International Digital Laboratory.

His research set the grounds to the development and establishment of a regional e-marketplace for the West Midlands region to enable small businesses embrace and successfully exploit e-business - West Midlands Collaborative Commerce Marketplace WMCCM www.wmccm.co.uk

Prior to Warwick, Dr. Swift spent a number of years establishing lean manufacturing practices, implementing MRPII systems for International Paper PLC.

His research interests are particularly research driven innovation within small business, e-marketplaces, e-business, Web 2.0, collaboration architectures and virtual teaming.

Matthew is a technologist who joins the SME team with experience of University spinouts.

He gained his PhD in Physical Acoustics and has since worked in industry, developing a breadth of knowledge in computer based systems and business.

Having worked widely in the UK and Europe, Matthew has worked for local and national government projects, in academia and in industry. Specialist roles have included engineering consultancy, e-security, electronic and computer systems’ design and construction, and business development.

Matthew will be providing business support for SME’s in the areas of spin-out design and funding, next generation IT systems, e-security, and the general support provided by IDL for SME’s in the West Midlands region.

Joe joined the Digital Laboratory with a background in assisting companies in applying best practice in relation to a growing digital engineering toolset.

After completing a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Warwick, Joe gained a Ph.D at Bristol University working with Jaguar/Landrover and Goodrich Aerospace on risk based metrics for fatigue prediction.

He has recently been responsible for managing and developing new projects in areas of: process planning, manufacturing virtual commissioning and information management.

Joe will be active in promoting the value of digital technologies and enabling working relationships between research institutions and small/large businesses.

Leigh Blount joined the Digital Lab team at WMG in September 2008 and has been working to put the systems in place to effectively manage the SME programme, focussing on the positive outcomes and impacts for SMEs in the West Midlands.

Leigh previously managed the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire High Technology Corridor, working with partners to put the right infrastructure in place to drive innovation forward in the region.

With a BA (Hons) in Business and Information Technology and qualifications in project/programme management, business planning and evaluation, experience in economic development and regeneration, developing partnerships and supporting funding applications.

Leigh’s interests are in a diverse range of digital technologies including Serious Games, virtual environments, and health technologies to ensure SMEs get the best support available to ensure they innovate and grow.

Winning Technology – “tomorrows technology for success today”

Networking with colleagues from the motorsport, aerospace, medical, automotive and ICT sectors. Guests also took time to visit the 15 exhibitors, which included motorsport specialist Prodrive and ICT experts Technology Services Group.

Carys has been working at the University for three and a half years, and joined the team at the Digital Laboratory in October 2008.

A previous student of the University, Carys has both a BA (Hons) in Film and Television and an MA (Hons) in Creative and Media Enterprises from Warwick.

Her background is in Public Relations, working as an Account Executive before returning to the University.

Carys then progressed into marketing and then Website Development, and she is currently working on the IDL website.

The world’s first conference on Neuromarketing, the application of cognitive neuroscience to industry was held at the International Digital Lab.

Presentations by Professor Richard Silberstein from the Brain Sciences Institute, Professor Steven Williams of Neurosense, Robin Wight CEO of WCRS advertising agency and many other leaders in the neuromarketing industry across fields as diverse as eye-tracking, electroencephalography and functional magnetic resonance imaging.

Georgina Haslop covers reception duties at the International Digital Lab.

He role involves meeting and greeting businesses, students and other visitors.

Georgina also works closely with many of the Professorial teams to help co-ordinate events, workshops and other activities for SMEs.

Georgina has a number of years experience working with a wide variety of companies.
