WHAT WE DO

We work specifically to:   Promote the idea of open knowledge to reach open intelligence, both what it

is, and why is it a good idea.

Run ‘Open Knowledge’ and events, for example forums, workshops and symposia.

Develop intelligent tools for a better & sustainable world.   Provide infrastructure, and potentially a home, for open knowledge projects,

communities and resources, for example, via the Knowdle Consortium Groups programs and services.

Running through all of our activities is a strong emphasis on decentralized collaboration. In particular, a primary aim is to help others develop open knowledge material as well as creating it ourselves. We believe that the future lies in collaboration between a multitude of different groups and that no one group or organisation can, or should try to, “do it all”.

  INTELLIGENT DIGITAL IDENTITIES GROUP (i)

“Applied Knowledge Identities for Knowledge Business Organization”   Concern for the rate at which new electronic technologies are

introduced into homes, cars, schools, and public places, and the rapid integration of computers and networks with everyday environments have inspired this research line to examine and discuss the many challenges, opportunities, and risks that these technologies pose. The greatest concern is that the full benefits of these internet technologies will not reach most of their intended users. The multitude of services and applications has created new synergies and dependencies between these technologies and individual users, and proper design requires ease of user, almost instinctive, human interfaces. We examines the problem of digital identities, in light of the new intelligent technologies.

  INTELLIGENT SOCIAL MEDIA & CROWDSOURCING

Building Strategies and Architectures for Intelligent Social Media and Crowdsourcing Applications.

Intelligent Social Media is the term for all the ways people connect to people through intelligent computation. Mobile devices, social networks, micro-blogging and location sharing are just a few of the ways people engage in computer-mediated intelligent collective action.

Mapping, measuring and understanding the landscape of social media is our mission. We support tool projects that enable the collection, analysis and visualization of social media data. We host data sets that are relevant to intelligent social media research

  “ECOGNOMY & ICOGNOVATION” (i)

  Knowledge Economy

The knowledge economy is a term that refers either to an economy of knowledge focused on the production and management of knowledge in the frame of economic constraints, or to a knowledge-based economy. In the second meaning, more frequently used, it refers to the use of knowledge technologies (such as knowledge engineering and knowledge management) to produce economic benefits as well as job creation. The phrase was popularized by Peter Drucker as the title of Chapter 12 in his book The Age of Discontinuity, And, with a footnote in the text, Drucker attributes the phase to economist Fritz Machlup.

The essential difference is that in a knowledge economy, knowledge is a product, while in a knowledge-based economy, knowledge is a tool. This difference is not yet well distinguished in the subject matter literature. They both are strongly interdisciplinary, involving economists, computer scientists, engineers, mathematicians, chemists and physicists, as well as cognitivists, psychologists and sociologists.

  “ECOGNOMY & ICOGNOVATION” (ii)

Knowledge Economy   Various observers describe today's global economy as one in transition to a

"knowledge economy," as an extension of an "information society." The transition requires that the rules and practices that determined success in the industrial economy need rewriting in an interconnected, globalized economy where knowledge resources such as know-how and expertise are as critical as other economic resources. According to analysts of the "knowledge economy," these rules need to be rewritten at the levels of firms and industries in terms of knowledge management and at the level of public policy as knowledge policy or knowledge-related.

The Knowledge Economy is structured in a base material that has created great changes on the economic, social and political. The new base material applied to the production consists of the intelligent electronic-digital computer that has reshaped the social relations of production, distribution and exchange in the world.

In this way, contemporary capitalism has a Knowledge Economy where the activities of creation, adaptation, dissemination and depreciation of knowledge has grown at a phenomenal pace. In this knowledge economy is structured a new industrial pattern of development where new industries (software and telecommunications) and the old ones are rejuvenated by the productive application of new technologies.

  “BIO-INSPIRED COGNITIVE SYSTEMS”

Biologically-Inspired Computing Approaches to Cognitive Systems and Bio-Plausible Cognitive Robotics   Typically the complex overall behaviour is the result of compounded non-linearities in the

component interactions. Furthermore, many systems of interest exhibit sophisticated adaptation responses over multiple timescales, and are resilient with respect to variations in component connectivity -- often as a result of self-organization properties. Almost all such naturally-occurring systems are biological in origin, and the phrase biologically-inspired complex adaptive systems (BICAS) has been used to generically refer to all such artificial systems.

The ultimate aim of BICAS research is to understand and build artificial complex adaptive systems with the same attractive properties of adaptation and resilience and self-organization as are found in naturally-occurring complex adaptive systems. The relevance of the BICAS approach to the science and engineering of cognitive systems is manifest.

OPEN KNOWDLEGE FORUM

The Open Knowledge Forums are a series of informal gatherings centred on the subject of open knowledge/intelligence. It aims to bring together those /producing/ and those /campaigning/, and to cover everything from software to the law. The sessions are usually held in the evenings in KCG Local Chapters and their format is to have talks by three or four different people followed by a general discussion.

SBOKRC, leads innovation, builds interdisciplinary and international networks, and focuses research on important public issues. The SBOKRC is guided by the belief that justice, prosperity, and democracy all require better understanding of complex social, cultural, economic, and political processes. We work with practitioners, policymakers, and academic researchers in all the social sciences, related professions, and the humanities and natural sciences. With partners around the world, we mobilize existing knowledge for new problems, link research to practice and policy, strengthen individual and institutional capacities for learning, and enhance public access to information. We bring necessary knowledge to public action in our research lines.
