Know Your ICAI – Series 1

Namaste

With new role assigned to me by all members to represent them in the Council of

ICAI, I intend to bring our Institute closer to our own members.

To achieve the same one of the steps is to share matters about our Institute, which

members may not be aware of but may be of use to them. In series – 1, we would

discuss in brief about the Committees of ICAI.

The Institute is managed by ‘Council’ of the Institute which we refer to as ‘Central

Council’ in common parlance. For managing the Institute’s affairs, the Council then

constitutes its Standing Committees and Non-standing Committees. Standing

Committees as prescribed under The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 are:

1. Executive Committee

2. Examination Committee

3. Finance Committee

4. Disciplinary Committee (u/s 21D)

Ex Officio members of all these standing committees are President as Chairman and

Vice President as Vice Chairman.

The Council can form any other committee / sub-committee / group which would be

non-standing committee for smooth function of the Institute. Members of the standing

committee as well as non- standing committee / sub-committee / group have tenure of

one year and can be re-elected.

I am hereafter sharing the composition of the Standing Committees and Non-standing
