Today marks the first day of former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano’s Presidency of the UC system. After deporting a record number of 1.6 million people during her term at Homeland Security, Napolitano is issuing a statement on immigration today. The UC is not and will not become part of the mass deportation machine. We believe in education not deportation. We ask you to join us in upholding that fundamental principle of the UC. These cuts amount to an avg. 1.5% decrease for workers earning an average of $35,000 per year Up to $124,000 in higher health costs over a worker’s lifetime These cuts are forced upon over 8,000 of the lowest paid UC employees 99% of UC service workers are eligible for public assistance Meanwhile...
