About JEE Main 2016
JEE Main, conducted by CBSE, is the first stage examination for admissions to prestigious IITs
(Indian Institute of Technology) and ISM (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad. In 2015, more than
13 candidates appeared for this exam for admissions to 31 NITs, 18 IIITs and 18 GFTIs, which
are the participating institutes of JEE Main. Top 1.5 lakh candidates of JEE Main are eligible
to appear for JEE Advanced, which is the second stage of entrance test for admissions to IITs
and ISM.
The application form of JEE Main is tentatively available from the month of November. Nearly
one month time is given to students for filling and submitting the form. The entrance exam is
conducted in the month of April.

JEE Main 2016
Eligibility Criteria
1. Pass Percentage in Class
12/Qualifying Examination
Candidates must have studied
Physics and Mathematics in their
Class 12
They must have studied at least one
out of the below as optional
subjects: Chemistry, Biology,
Computer Science and Bio-
technology
They must have scored total 50%
marks (minimum) in all subjects.
2. Date of Birth
In order to be eligible for JEE Main 2016
candidates must be born:
On or after October 1, 1991
SC/ST/PwD: on or after October 1,
1986
Important: DOB as mentioned in
the Secondary Education
Board/University certificate will be
considered as correct.
3. Number of Attempts
If other eligibility criteria are
fulfilled, a candidate is allowed a
maximum of three attempts.
4. Exam Qualifying Year (QE)
Candidates must have passed their
Class XII examination or other
qualifying examination in the year
2015 or 2016. OR
Candidates who are appearing for
their Class XII examination in 2016
are eligible
Candidates must have studied at
least five subjects in their Class XII
or other qualifying exam.
Candidates who have studied four
subjects are NOT eligible.
Who is not eligible?
Candidates, who have passed class 12th/qualifying
examination in 2013 or before as well as those
who will appear in such examination in 2017 or
later are not eligible to appear in JEE Main 2016.
Candidates who appeared in class 12th/equivalent
qualifying Examinations in 2013, did not pass in
2013, but passed in 2014 are also not eligible to
appear in JEE Main 2016.

JEE Main 2016 Selection Procedure Candidates are given admissions on the basis of All India Ranks (AIRs) calculated with JEE Main
scores and normalized marks of Class XII in the ratio 60:40. JEE Main score is considered for
admission to National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information
Technology (IIITs) and GFTIs.

JEE Main 2016 Paper Pattern JEE Main 2016 will consist of two papers:
1. JEE Main Paper I this is for engineering courses. This paper can be attempted in
online or offline mode.
2. JEE Main Paper II this is for Architecture/Planning Courses. This paper can only be
attempted in pen and paper mode.

Online Exam (Computer based):
Online exam of JEE Main 2016 will comprise of PCM with equal weightage to every subject
The exam paper will consist of three parts, which will include questions from PCM The candidate will have to select one out of the four responses given Each question will carry 4 marks The exam duration for Paper I is 3 hours Zero marks will be deducted for no response Every wrong answer will attract a deduction of of the total marks.

Offline Exam (Pen & Paper based):
The exam will be of 3 hours duration
The paper will carry 90 questions, 30 from each subject - Physics, Chemistry and
Mathematics
The paper will have Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with one correct answer from a
choice of 4 answers for each question
Each question will carry 4 marks
The exam duration for Paper I is 3 hours
Zero marks will be deducted for no response
Every wrong answer will attract a deduction of of the total marks.
