Grand Knight’s Message

Ernie Rodriguez

Worthy SKs and Brothers, I would first like to congratulate all the new elected officers for this fraternal year.

Secondly, as your new Grand Knight I would like to thank you for your confidence in me to serve as your Grand Knight for this next fraternal year. My goals as your grand Knight are to uphold our 4 principles of our Order:

Charity  – Our Catholic faith teaches us to “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” Members of the Knights of Columbus show love for their neighbors by conducting food drives and donating the food to local soup kitchens and food pantries, by volunteering at Special Olympics, and by supporting, both spiritually and materially, mothers who choose life  for their babies. Knights recognize that our mission, and our faith in God, compels us to action. There is no better way to experience love and compassion than by helping those in need, a call we answer every day.

Unity – None of us is as good as all of us. Members of the Knights of Columbus all know that – together – we can accomplish far more than any of us could individually. So we stick together…we support one another. That doesn’t mean that we always agree or that there is never a difference of opinion. It does mean that – as a Knight of Columbus – you can count on the support and encouragement of your brother Knights as you work to make life better in your parish and community.

Fraternity – Venerable Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus, in large part, to provide assistance to the widows and children left behind when the family breadwinner died – often prematurely. The Order’s top-rated insurance program  continues to do this today, as do the good works of individual Knights, who gave more than 75.6 million service hours in 2017, illustrating how Catholics serve each other in fraternity and mercy.

Patriotism – Members of the Knights of Columbus, be they Americans, Canadians, Mexicans, Cubans, Filipinos,

Poles, or Dominicans, are patriotic citizens. We are proud of our devotion to God and country, and believe in standing up for both. Whether it’s in public or private, the Knights remind the world that Catholics support their nations and are amongst the greatest citizens. In order to do this, I ask each and everyone of us to first and foremost put all of our personal feelings aside so we can be united as a Council. • On July 16, Council 9993 held their annual tailgate/

picnic. Thanks to all the Brother Knights and their spouses that helped setup and with the tear down. Special Thanks to our Past Grand Knight Jaime Santos and SK Rick Losey for grilling all the brats, hot dogs and hamburgers. This event was well attended with 63 people feasting on those hamburgers, brats, hot dogs and lots of desserts. Weather held up till the game started and only had rain for 10 minutes and were treated with 2 double rainbows. Extra bonus was the Rocky Mountain Vibes won 3-2.

• Congratulations to all the new elected officers for Assembly 3049 that were installed on July 17 at St. Patrick’s Parish.

Grand Knights Message continued on page 4…

We are looking forward to starting our auxiliary year again! We enjoy a mix of prayer, fun, friendship and volunteering for our community. Our first meeting is August 28, 2019, with a ladies only social afterwards this time. Our first Christmas

goods sale will be on October 5 and 6th, 2019. Our Christmas party is on Dec 7th, 2019. We have a lot happening, so please come and join a group of ladies who truly support each other, the community and the love of Christ our Lord.

We wish to extend a warm “Hi” to all the wives of the Knights who are not currently members. We would love for you to come and visit us anytime. We are a caring and fun group of women, dedicated to our community and church. In addition, you can bring friends and relatives as our membership is open to all women, not just wives of Knights.

Please contact Jeanne Patalano if you have any questions. ([email protected])

On July 31, the Council resurrected the Knights Social. This day was full of great cheer, good food and entertainment. Special Thanks to SK Ray Meadows for taking control of this event and to Skip for volunteering to be our grill master. After feasting on hamburgers, brats, hot dogs followed by ice cream for dessert, we were entertained by our Brother Skip playing his guitar. • Thanks to all our Brother Knights, spouses and family members that came to the rescue and volunteered their time

at the Marian House Soup Kitchen on Aug 3. With summer in force, they were short staffed and with our attendance, they were fully staffed. Every 1st Saturday of the month, St. Patrick’s is a recurring group that helps at the Marian House from 7:30 am – 1:30 pm. This will be a recurring activity for the Knights so please mark your calendar on Sept 7 to come out and help.

The Rocky Mountain Vibes Tailgate game on July 16, 2019 was a huge success. It was probably the biggest turnout in recent years. The rain even held off… for the most part. No rain during the tailgate and a brief shower during the game. Brothers Jaime and Rick cooked up some delicious grub and everyone else brought tasty dishes to pass. No one went to the game hungry! To top the night off, God gave us a double rainbow and the Vibes won! Great night out with the brothers and their friends and families. Looking forward to next years event already! See next page for more photos.

Catholic Charities Volunteers Deploy to the Border of Mexico Through a program offered by Catholic Charities USA to reimburse well-known/trustworthy volunteers, Catholic Charities of Central Colorado coordinated the deployment a number of volunteers to the border, including: two volunteers to Laredo, TX in May, two volunteers to Coachella, CA, and three volunteers to Tucson, AZ, in the month of June. Three more volunteers are scheduled to deploy in July to Laredo, TX. The program has tentatively been extended into August.

Knights Knews edit: Council 9993’s ownTony Patalano is one of the volunteers that travelled to Tucson, AZ. Please pray for Tony and the Catholic Charities team in Tucson, AZ this week helping feed and clothe immigrants. Tony Patalano let us know prayers are welcome and needed for these people. He returned August 3. See photos below of Tony preparing to feed the “souls” of the less fortunate and providing “soles” for the less fortunate. (See what I did there?) Tip ‘o the hat to you Tony!

Worthy Knights coming together for a Knights (and friends) only social. 10+ years ago, they used to be held on the 5th Wednesday of each month. It was recently suggested to bring them back. So we did! Thanks to Ernie Rodriguez, Ray Meadows and Skip Cahn for cooking up burgers, brats, hotdogs and smoked sausages. And a special thanks to Brother Skip Cahn for performing an impromptu set of songs to entertain everyone. A 50/50 raffle was held and the lucky first winner was Al Pfiefer. If you have any ideas for activities at future socials, please contact Tom Stevens or Dave Henggeler.

Great company, great food and great entertainment! Many are looking forward to the next one in October. Hope to see everyone there!

On July 24, Brother Knight Joe Chiacchieri worked as a “Grinder” in the America’s Cup sailboat race that took place in Newport, Rhode Island. Next time you see Joe, be sure to ask him about his experiences!
