January 2020
Dear Knights and Ladies,
As I “pen” these lines, it is a few days before Christmas. As we anticipate the Savior’s rebirth in our hearts, we are reminded that the Infant Jesus, like all of us, gradually grew in wisdom and grace be-fore God and man. He did not remain an infant all his life. There was a growth process, and we too must grow in our Faith through knowledge and service. The month of January contains several wonderful feasts, including the Solemnity of Mary the Moth-er of God, the Epiphany (the showing forth of the Savior to the world), and the Baptism of the Lord. Just as the wise men brought the very best gifts they had to the baby Jesus, recognizing his three-fold role as priest, prophet, and king; so we have received princely gifts at our Baptism – the seven fold gifts of the Holy Spirit. What gift or gifts did you give to Jesus this year? As the late radio commentator Paul Harvey often observed, "Really, it's His birthday – not ours." . In this New Year of grace, I ask each Knight and Lady to prayerfully consider the Lord’s call to holi-ness, lived in stewardship, and the particular response you can make as individuals, as married couples, or as a family. The Knights of Columbus are a service arm of the Church. None of us can achieve holi-ness alone, without God’s grace, or without meaningful relationships. In fact, I believe our stewardship – which goes way beyond the financial aspects – will be the measure of love that the Lord will use in our particular judgments. He may well ask: “How have you loved? Tell me the ways.” We as Knights have embarked upon a new year of grace. It is a wonderful opportunity for new be-ginnings on a personal and Council level. If I have not made the time (and it usually has to be a priority, often sacrificial) to serve my parish, my Council or my Assembly in some capacity, I need to act on that this year. Certainly, I need to grow in my Faith through knowledge, reflecting upon the Scriptures and availing myself of opportunities for learning. Every day is a gift from God, and we know not the length of our days - “Memento Mori.” With our ever growing church family, we need many liturgical ministers – lectors, hospitality minis-ters, Eucharistic ministers, for example; as well as outreach ministers – bereavement, ministers to the Sick, St. Vincent de Paul volunteers, Faith Formation teachers, and volunteers for our annual Fall Festival. If you are retired, and can spare an hour a week, we need ministers to the sick for homebounds, in partic-ular. What a wonderful way to brighten someone’s day, and your own as well! Whatever avenue of ser-vice you choose, it will make a difference. No gift from the heart is ever too small. As Knights and Ladies, we are called with many gifts, and the Lord continually makes all things new. In this New Year 2020, may we resolve to take a better path in life, responding generously to God’s call. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of praying for priestly and religious voca-tions, encouraging them in your own families! Prayerfully yours, Father Steve Baumann Chaplain

Pro-Life Views
January 2020
A new year is here and the Knights of Columbus’ pro-life efforts continue to help preg-nancy centers and, therefore mothers. Over 25 ultrasound machines have been given to pregnancy centers in Central Florida. Over 1,000 ultrasound machines have been given to pregnancy centers on a national basis. These machines help to save babies in the womb from death. Our country is also blessed to have a pro-life person in the White House. Our presi-dent has reinstated and expanded the Mexico City Policy which prohibits taxpayer fund-ing to international groups that promote or provide abortions. Our president expanded conscience protections for pro-life medical workers and increased religious exemptions for Obamacare. This past Spring the administration finalized a new Title X rule that re-quires health care entities to completely separate abortions from taxpayer-funded ser-vices. In the process Planned Parenthood lost $60 million in funding. On the other hand Planned Parenthood continues to peddle its pro-abortion agen-da. According to responsible sources Planned Parenthood will spend $45 million to pro-mote abortion nationally this year. On top of what is noted above Governors, like Andrew Cuomo in New York, want to make assisted suicide legal in his state. In addition New York law makers want free abortion at colleges. As Knights and protectors of innocent babies the Knights will continue doing pro-life work. We will again host our Laps for Life event at Bishop Moore High School on Saturday, March 7, 2020. The event starts at 8 AM and will go until 1 PM. This has become a very popular event so don’t miss out on the fun. Get someone to sponsor you, or sponsor yourself, by contributing money for every mile you walk or run. In addition Council 12761 will double the gift and Supreme will double that gift up to $2,500. That means that a hundred dollars raised by members and friends of our Council will be re-sponsible for a total gift of $400 ($100 is doubled by Council 12761 = $200 which will also be doubled to $400 by Supreme). In addition you will have a good time.
