Family of the MonthThe Family-of-the-Month

for September is selected for their commitment to contin-ual service and support to the Church, our Council and to our Community.

This Brother Knight and his Lady are involved in many ac-tivities of the St Paul Catholic Parish. He and his Lady have recently chaired the St Paul Kirchenfest Auction in August. They had brought novel prod-ucts to the auction block, and it is hopeful that the results are a huge pay-off for the parish.

It is with deep appreciation that we have selected Scott & Tami Troxell as the Family of the Month for September, 2017.

Congratulations from the Highland Knights of Columbus, Council 1580.

Knight of the MonthWe have selected as our Sep-

tember Knight-of-the-Month a Brother Knight for his contin-ual service and support to the Church, our Council and to our Community.

This brother Knight was kind enough to step up into the role of shift-leader at the Kirchenfest Food Stand. His team handled the notorious ‘Jim Plocher’ timeframe of 4 – 7 PM on Saturday, every year.

It is with great appreciation that we honor as the Knight of the Month for September, 2017, our brother Knight, Ed Plocher.

Congratulations from the Highland Knights of Columbus, Council 1580

Senior Knight of The Month

We have selected as our Sep-tember Knight of the Month a brother Knight who continually contributes his time and talents to the Community, the Church and the Knights of Columbus.

This brother Knight has been a long time member of the Highland Knights of Colum-bus Council, going towards 28 years. He has been a worker at numerous KC fundraisers, as well as being a past Grand Knight, past faithful Navigator and currently a member & cap-tain of the 4th Degree Honor Guard.

It is with great appreciation that we honor as the Senior Knight of the Month for Sep-tember, 2017, our brother senior Knight, Ed Campbell. Congrat-ulations from Council 1580, Highland Knights of Columbus.

Often the church is compared to the human body with many members and many parts. What part do you and I play? Each body part is vital for the body to function properly. In the same way, each mem-ber of the church is vital to its continuance in serving our Lord and each member has some special gift to offer in those efforts.

There is a life-giving connection between each member of the church just as there is between each body part and thus the church is called the body of Christ. Life flows back and forth from part to part and from member to member. We all have something to pour into the church through fellow members. It may be an active involvement in a ministry and it may be simply a hospitable personality that lets others know they are being remembered and prayed for. A prayer ministry is invaluable when a more active ministry is not possible. St. Paul’s recent Ministry Fair showed many opportunities where we can become involved as members of our church in order for the entire body of the church to thrive. So I ask again, “What part do you and I play?”

Golf Tournament is SuccessGreetings Fellow Sir Knights,

Our Golf Tournament was a success we netted $6,331.68 our best year yet, so I want to say thanks to all who help make our Golf Tourney a Success.

A Big Thank You to this year’s chairman Sir Knight Ron Clarkin for Chairing the event.

Who will step up to chair next year’s event?

Faithful NavagatorJim Hickman

Jim HickmanFaithful Navigator

Well here we are - October, hard to believe it’s already fall, especially with this 90° weather!

It’s been a really great sum-mer, ball-fields in full swing the ha l l run -ning l ike clockwork, that, I am very proud of, as we all are.

We’ve learned an awful lot this past summer with the pa-vilion and ballfields, that’s the kind of thing that’s going to help us grow and make us better next year. There’s several little behind the scenes things we’re going to get taken care of before the end of the year, which are not big issues. Other than that there is not a lot to mention.

I want to thank everybody that’s been involved with the hall and the ballfields this sum-mer. In particular the members who step up when they see there’s a problem and take care of it.

Without the membership pulling together and helping we would not have had such a good year. Thank you again!

There is one thing I would like to try to do yet this fall and that is one more work day to winterize the pavilion and clean up the storage sheds. But that will be a few weeks away.

I think a big thank you is in order for the Grand Knight and the council for hosting the appreciation dinner for our first responders.

It was nice to meet up with old and new friends, also to listen to some inspiring words from Chief Bell and never to be forgotten, our own Knight Time singers.

I want to thank all of our first responders for all they have done for us, thank you again!

Sometimes I have to take a step back and think about the problems I, or we deal with on a daily basis. Those problems seem pretty small compared

Time Marches, Mission ContinuesOpportunity AboundsWith Autumn comes more opportunity to join the Knights and

become more involved. For instance, we are having our annual Pork Sausage dinner, Oct.

22 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.We need two things to make it a success.First, we need our Brother Knights to turn out

to work the various stations to prepare and to serve our guests.

Secondly, we need our fellow parishioners to come out with their families and friends to eat.

We need your support on this because without your support we can not donate funds to all of our charitable activities.

It takes teamwork!I want everyone to know how much the partici-

pation the Knights’ had in the St Paul Parish Kirchenfest is appreciated. The event as a whole was a success, and by no small part because of the parishioners and the surrounding parish’s members who are Knights of this Council. Thank you, fellow Knights! If the secret of Knights’ help were to ever get out, it’s curtains for the good guys!

I have to send my appreciation toward the Council Chancellor for handling the St Paul Ministry Fair table along with me, the Grand Knight. There were a couple of interests shown at it as well as at the Ladies’ Auxiliary

However, it was unfortunate that the past meeting for September, which was to begin with an Induction Ceremony that was canceled, and only the business meeting was conducted. There are still several new members signed up to come into the Council, and we want to have another service here, soon; however, the new guys have to come in on the appointed evening. Anyway, there are more ceremonies in the area surrounding the Highland Council. Contact the KC Hall, 654-9049, if any are interested in October or November or December. And…the winner of the Gun Raffle for September is Doug Tabbert. Congratulations, Doug!

The Firemen’s Appreciation is just as great as ever – good food, great friends and nice speech! There were more than 170 dining at the Hall that Tuesday night. It is our small way of showing ‘Thank You!’ to the men and women who step into any mess to preserve life and property. That goes to all First Responders.

The Right-for-Life is preparing, as we read, to place the small white crosses along Poplar Street, to illustrate how many lives are lost through abortion and contraception. This manner of message from Knights, about the sad affairs of our nation’s laws, is the work of few, but the prayers from many more go with them, that laws and attitudes may be changed. The St. Paul group goes to pray at the clinic in Granite City and meets at the south Church parking lot on the 2nd Saturday, each month at just after 8 a.m.

Looking out straight ahead into October and November, There will not be a lack of things to do at the K of C’s! October is the month of The Holy Rosary and the Living Rosary will be held before Mass on one of the Sundays. Also in October, we have our Sausage Dinner and a membership drive. November and December have interesting events also: the Memorial Mass, The Christmas Dinner/Party.

I’m looking forward to all these and maybe more! I can’t remember when I have had as much fun as here. Even the Wurstfest in New Braunfels, Texas, was never as fun as Highland’s events! Out there, the closest parking was the Knights’ parking lot across from the main entrance to the festival, and, you guessed it, we Knights of Mgrs. Hubertus Council #4183 got to park the cars, same as the VFW does it at the fair. It was always good for sausages (wurst) and sunburns!

Vivat Jesus! And thanks, again.Jerry Klostermann, Grand Knight
