WP5 Kick-off meeting outcome Start close organization between collaborating Institutes Set-up coordination Confirm agreement on proposed program of work and on

objectives Define a “short term” (3 months) agenda:

existing deep-sea data assessment, definition of commonanalysis method, identification of needed measurements

definition of “long-term” measurements for finalcharacterization

… The work on other tasks need some imput from WP2,

WP3, WP4, WP7, the activity will start in few months.

Risks connected to WP5 ? Site characteristics study activity (spoiled by the site selection duty)

can be successful for all quantities that have been alreadyextensively measured and that do not need a long term, multi-yearand multi-seasonal measurements

Detector deployment/handling tools design are “design dependent”but should not create problems

Deep Sea Infrastructure design, as well as power distribution, cables and connectors selection, will be based on commercialtechnology or, at most, on developments that do not need an “outof the market” technological effort

What we promised as deliverables in ANNEX1 canbe reached

Present technologies are already sufficient for ourneeds but expensive, our work will be mainlydevoted to simplify all deep-sea operation, tomaximize the operative time, to reduce theoperation costs

Docking system for AUV-ROV

AUV

ROV

Docking Station.Prototype to be built for shallow water test

get the AUV on loan, modify the connection

, …get it on loan forshallow water test

A 3500m depth ROV design andconstruction is already funded (projectPEGASO funded with 5.6 Meuro by the“Regione Siciliana”) and underrealization by INFN and INGV (P.I.).

How many docking stations ?Where to place them ?

Which kind of connectors ?Which are AUV/ROV critical parts ?

How to improve their reliability ?How to control them ?
