As the fall season begins, 4-H gears up for the many activities coming
up in the next several months. There are many 4-H projects and com-
munity service that 4-H members conduct, it is bound to be an AWE-
SOME Fall Season! Families: If you have not enrolled through 4-H
Connect, be sure to do that ASAP. Members not registered on 4-H
Connect will not be eligible to participate in the Kleberg-Kenedy Jun-
ior Livestock Show or other 4-H events. The 4-H Connect Fee is now
$25.00 as of November 1st.
The Kleberg-Kenedy County 4-H Newsletter contains information on
activities, events, and deadlines that 4-H families need to keep up to
date. It also brings educational items of interest to encourage further
research by readers.

Kleberg-Kenedy County AgriLife Extension Service complies with the law set forth by legislature regarding
eligibility and school absences. Members competing or simply participating in a 4-H event (food show, fash-
ion show, livestock show, etc.) must be certified as eligible to participate by their respective schools. School
officials will be provided with a list of students entered in competitive and/or non-competitive 4-H events.
Should a student be ineligible due to their respective School District’s Policy (grades, absenteeism, disci-
pline, etc.), school officials will be notified in writing of their ineligibility status by our office.
Individuals with disabilities who require an auxiliary aid, service, or accommodation in order to participate
in any 4-H event are encouraged to contact their County Extension Office at 361.595.8566 at least two weeks
in advance of the program to see how reasonable accommodations can be made.

Recognition: County Food Show & Food Challenge
THANKSGIVING BASKETS COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Discussion to provide a Thanksgiving Meal to several needy families in the Sari-
ta, Riviera, Ricardo, and Kingsville community, will be discussed at Nov. 7th’s
County Council Meeting. Pending approval, all clubs are asked to donate $10/
club by November 18th. Clubs may choose to donate more money. 4-H Families may also donate if they want. The more money that is donated, the more fami-
lies that will be provided with a meal during Thanksgiving. We will coordinate
these efforts of giving with the local County Indigent Office to determine which
families are in need during this time of year. Anyone interested in putting the
baskets together should plan on meeting Monday, November 21st at 9:00 a.m. at
the Extension Office. Baskets will be delivered immediately following the com-
pletion of the baskets.
4-H COUNCIL CHRISTMAS COMMUNITY SERVICE SCAVENGER HUNT:
Discussion for 4-H Council to host their annual Christmas Scavenger Hunt will be
Monday Nov 7th, at the County Council Meeting. Pending approval, December
5th; 5:30 p.m. at the Dick Kleberg Park (Recreation Building). The event will
begin with the presentation of the Foster Kid gifts to Child Protective Services fol-
lowed by the popular Scavenger Hunt food drive. The non-perishable food items
collected will be given to a local food pantry and/or County Indigent Office for
distribution to needy families. At the conclusion, everyone is invited for snacks
and refreshments. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend! If you cannot at-
tend please drop off wrapped gifts to the Extension Office on Dec. 5th by 5 p.m.
FOSTER KID GIFT PROJECT:
Discussion for 4-H Council to host the Annual Foster Kid gift project will be Mon-
day Nov 7th, at the County Council Meeting. Pending approval, Clubs/
individuals are asked to bring their wrapped and labeled gift (approx. cost $10-
$15 value/gift) for the Foster Kid gift project to the Council Christmas Scavenger
Hunt or drop off at the Extension Office on/or before December 5th by 5:00 p.m.
Gifts will be presented to CPS at the Event.

Texas 4-H Scholarship Deadline for Applications is January 12th, 5pm at Ex-
tension Office. Graduating seniors are encouraged to take advantage of any
and all scholarships.
Texas 4-H Scholarship Guidelines/Instructions and Applications are
available at the Extension Office.
Texas 4-H Youth Development Program Opportunity Scholarships are aca-
demic scholarships awarded each year to applicants based on their aca-
demic record, 4-H experience, and financial need. The Texas 4-H Youth De-
velopment Opportunity Scholarship Program is conducted by the Texas 4-H
Youth Development Foundation. All applications must be submitted
through the applicant’s county Extension office and meet all criteria to be
considered.

TEXAS 4-H SCHOLARSHIP:
Texas Farm Credit would like take this opportunity to invite your 4-H mem-
bers to submit their application to our Ag Student of the Month program and
Marsha Martin Scholarship program. Students may apply for both program
by completing one simple application. Deadline Dec. 1st. Please visit the

NEW THIS YEAR: Texas Farm Credit is pleased to introduce our Ag Student
of the Month program that will recognize one student each month (January
through April 2017) at each of our 20 branch locations. Students must be a
member of FFA or 4-H. Winners will receive a $100 gift card and will eligi-
ble for our Marsha Martin Scholarship Program.
Texas Farm Credit will continue to award five Marsha Martin Scholarships in
the amount of $2,000 each for graduating seniors who are involved in FFA or
4-H and are pursuing a college degree in an agriculture-related field of
study. These five scholarship recipients will be selected from the monthly
Ag Student of the Month winners.

City of Kingsville Livestock Projects: City ordinance governs livestock within the Kingsville City Limits. Typically, with
the approval of neighbors, 4-H and FFA members are allowed to keep certain
projects within the city limits.

LIVESTOCK PROJECT INFORMATION!! STATE SWINE VALIDATION:
State Swine Validation is scheduled for 8-10 a.m. on November 12th, 2016 at
Kingsville FFA Ag Farm.
MAJOR SHOWS: PLEASE LOOK INTO IT
If you validated or are planning to validate a livestock project (steer, lamb,
goat, and/or swine) for the market division or have a registered breeding ani-
mal/scramble animal for the Major Shows, please print the registration infor-
mation forms off the respective show you wish to attend and bring them by the
Extension Office.

Livestock project clinics for beef, goat, lamb, and swine exhibitors will begin in
December. These clinics are intended to be informal (one-on-one). Discussion
will focus on where exhibitors should be with their project, feed program, para-
site control, sanitation, weighing of the project, questions, etc. (Note: Swine ex-
hibitors are not recommended to bring their project). Take advantage of these
opportunities to learn more about your respective project.

QUALITY COUNTS REQUIREMENTS FOR MAJOR SHOW PARTICIPATION:
Members planning on entering a Major Show with a livestock project must have com-
pleted the Quality Counts online Verification Training and Testing. Please see below for
more information and website: This means youth exhibitors will need to demonstrate
their knowledge of the Six Pillars of Character and the Eight Core Concepts presented in
the Quality Counts Curriculum.
To do this, they will need to pass an online test on the website (http://
qualitycounts.tamu.edu/) and acquire a Quality Counts Verification number.
Things you need to know about Verification:
*All Major Livestock Shows in Texas will require Quality Counts Verification.

VALIDATION DATES:
See attached list of upcoming KKJLS validation dates. Please mark these dates on
your calendar! At validation, a $5/head fee will apply to the following species:
steer, swine, goat, and lamb. A $3/head fee will apply for rabbits. This will be
collected at validation. This is not an entry fee! See page 6 of Rule Book, Validation.
KKJLS RABBIT EXHIBITIORS:
- The recommended breeding date for market rabbits this year was Oct. 24, 2016.
- The Extension Office has a copy of “ARBA Standards of Perfection”, exhibitors
should also see the rule book and read the sections that pertain to the KKJLS show.
Rabbit scales will be available, please bring the project to the Extension Office
for anyone wanting to weigh their rabbits.

District 12 4‐H Dairy Judging Contest Registration- Nov 15, 2016- Dec 2, 2016
The 2017 District 12 4‐H Dairy Judging Contest will be held in conjunction with the
San Antonio Livestock Exposition’s (SALE) Dairy Judging Contest. The event will be
held on February 10, 2017 in San Antonio on the show grounds in the Cattle Barn and
will begin promptly at 9:00 am. The contest will be open to all three age divisions
and follow the same guidelines outlined in the Texas 4‐H Roundup Rules and Guide-
lines as they relate to this contest. It is important to remember that the SALE Dairy
Judging Contest Rules will also apply. In addition to the recognition provided direct-
ly to contestants as part of the SALE event, those registered through the District 12 4‐H Dairy Judging Contest on 4‐H Connect will also be recognized separately. Please
note that this contest will NOT be used as a qualifier for State.

Kingsville Parks & Recreation is looking for groups to host activi-
ty booths for kids/adults at the Ranch Hand Festival November
19th 9am-3pm downtown Kingsville.
We are looking specifically for a petting zoo, pony rides, kissing
booth (kiss a pig or puppy) games, etc.
You are welcome to charge a small fee to benefit your organization.
