Trekking Rucksack (about 65L)
Fitting a Rucksack• Try it on with weight inside
• Adjust the length of the back to fit.
• The hip belt should be on your hips, and not move up or down when you walk.
• With the hip belt done up tight, the rucksack should stay on your body even without your arms in the straps.
Rucksack – These are not water proof so use a large plastic bag or proper water proof bags. Use the waist strap to transfer the
load to your hips
Food – You should share morning and evening meals with your tent
partner. They should be as light as possible.
Reduce the amount of packaging before the trip. Don’t forget your
emergency rations
Tent – this should be divided between the group to spread the
load
Odds and ends – A pocket in the lid is a useful place to keep small first aid items,
snacks, pen and paper, money etc. Keep this in a
plastic zip lock bag
Stove – as part of your equipment you will be provided with a gas stove and fuel. Keep
matches or lighter in a waterproof bag
Clothing – keep to a minimum e.g. one set on and a
spare set. Keep in a waterproof bag
Pack your rucksack a few
days before then unpack it and
take out what you don't really need.
Clean and dry equipment
carefully after you have used it some items could last you a lifetime.
