Kirrawee PS will continue to promote the need to follow good hygiene practices such as:

*regularly washing hands

*avoiding sharing drinks and food

*coughing or sneezing into your elbow, or a tissue which should be discarded immediately

*filling water bottles from bubblers rather than using the bubbler directly

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AND SCHOOL SITE USAGE

*Principals may continue to restrict, limit or prohibit activities if deemed to be contrary to the advice of the day, and should escalate any issues or concerns to their director, educational leadership

*Interschool activities can recommence.. This means that schools and students may now travel outside of their local community. This applies to all interschool sport and physical activities, curriculum activities, arts activities and extra-curricular activities organised or sponsored by the school.

*Only providers that are essential to the delivery of curriculum can continue to provide services and programs until further notice

*Schools may hold a Year 6 assembly to recognise the completion of primary school. Refreshments may be provided at the school for Stage 3 students and staff only if students bring their own food or single-portion packaged food is provided. Use disposable plates and cutlery.

*Current guidelines for non-essential external visitors for sporting activities events held within the school site during school hours will apply. Spectators, parents and carers are not to attend unless explicitly requested by the school to directly support the delivery of curriculum.

*Kindergarten orientation, Year 7 transition, excursions and camps can resume with strict guidelines.

*Excursions and field trips within NSW can recommence in Term 4 provided schools follow the requirements under the Planning for offsite school activities page.

*Overnight activities may take place so long as accommodation facilities and overnight event organisers develop and implement a COVID-19 Safety plan

*Work experience can proceed subject to the availability of placement and appropriate risk assessments.

*School assemblies (limited to 15 minutes and no external visitors)

*School photos (Staff photos can be taken where physical distancing is possible

*Construction and maintenance providers may attend schools for asset-related activities.

*Non-essential adults are still not permitted on school grounds or at school events. This includes parents and carers except for face-to-face parent/teacher meetings that are essential (e.g. to discuss disciplinary or other welfare matters).

*P&C meetings should continue online only. P&C social events or functions including dinners, fundraisers, fetes and barbecues that involve parents and other adults are not permitted in Term 4.

Department of Education –COVID 19 Policy Changes

*During the COVID-19 pandemic, anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of taste,

and loss of smell), should not be at school.

*If, after testing negative, the person has ongoing symptoms which persist beyond 10 days, the person (staff or

students) should arrange to see their doctor. The medical assessment should consider whether the symptoms are typical

for that person (for example seasonal, allergic rhinitis), and provide documentation for the school if this is the case. If

there are new symptoms at any time, the person should be tested again.

* Isolated incidents of sneezing or coughing may not indicate that a student is suffering from an illness. Staff should talk with students

about how they are feeling to determine if a cough/sneeze is an isolated incident or whether the student is unwell. Where a student

is unwell arrangements should be made to send them home.

* Schools should encourage staff and parents to arrange for the person who is unwell to be tested so they can return to

school as soon possible once their symptoms have resolved to minimize the absence from school. For people who are

unwell with respiratory symptoms, a negative COVID-19 test result must be received and sighted.

*COVID-19 testing for students with complex health or disability may be challenging. In these situations, schools are to ask the

parent/carer to have their child assessed by their medical practitioner. Where a medical practitioner determines that a COVID-19 test

is not indicated, a medical certificate must be provided to the school to confirm that the student does not have symptoms that warrant

a COVID-19 test. The certificate must also indicate that the student is able to return to the school environment.

*Schools have reported concerns with obtaining COVID test results from some families. In these situations where a

parent/carer is unwilling to allow their child to undertake a COVID test or provide the school with a negative COVID-19 test

result, the student is to be excluded from school for a 10 day period. Additionally, the student must have been symptom

free for at least 3 days before returning to school.

* When you email the school to say your child is sick could you please tell us the symptoms your child is experiencing (eg

headache, stomach ache, cold etc).

EARLY STAGE 1 REPORT

Term 3 is winding up and what a term it has been! In week 9 we celebrated Book Week with a book parade and the library book fair. It was absolutely wonderful to see all of the students come together and share their love of books in a fun and exciting way. In maths we have been learning about volume and capacity through explaining if a container is ‘filled to capacity’ and ordering containers based on how much they can hold. We have also been learning about positional language and how to explain the location of an object based on its surroundings.

In our thematic unit we have been exploring a range of materials, their properties and how they can be used in everyday life. After learning about the properties of playdough, aluminium foil, wood and paper, we moved on to fabric. We then used fabric to create tie dye bunting for the classrooms, check out the results! We hope everyone has a safe and relaxing time on school holidays.

Mrs Harris, Mrs Werner and Miss Wallin Early Stage 1 Teachers

STAGE 1 REPORT What great fun we had during book week. The kids and the teachers all loved dressing up as book character. The kids should be congratulated on their efforts.

A big thank you to all the families that also supported our annual book drive.

Our Stage 1 mini athletics carnival will be held on Thursday, what a great way to end our term!

Fit futures has come to end this term with a great class dance learnt by all! Keep your eye out for your class dance on seesaw!

The students have also been doing green screen movie effects in technology with Mr Mahoney, as well as shadow art and photography with their class teachers! Stage 1 Teachers

STAGE 2 REPORT Last week was World Book Day and some of the costumes were absolutely fantastic! Well done to all those that participated, especially those that won the best dressed prize. Here are some of our Stage 2 classes in their costumes

and some individual children having fun with some green screen programs that they are learning about in Technology.

The Book Fair, which was held last Tuesday, was a huge success! Thank you to everyone that purchased books and other items from the Fair, and a special thank you to Mr Mahoney and Karen for organising it. With the end of the term in sight, we wish all the students and their families a happy, safe and relaxing break and look forward to seeing everyone next term. Monday 12th October will be the first day of Term 4. Thank you again for your continued support and cooperation. Stage Two Teachers, Mrs Amy Fulmer, Ms Amanda Tucci, Mr Neal Culkin & Mr Patrick Morgan

STAGE 3 REPORT And so we come to the end of Term 3, and it's been great to be able to have a full term of face to face teaching! The kids have done a great job settling back into a more normal classroom routine after such a disrupted first half of the year. All the students have learnt so much this term and have been so engaged in our Science unit, looking at the Solar System and Earth's place within it, how electrical circuits work, states of matter, and famous discoveries. This week we have been watching the 'One Strange Rock' documentary to supplement our learning, looking at the creation of our planet Earth, and how we came to be the only planet that we know of that can support such complex life.

Next term our Mappen unit is called 'Data and Decisions.' Students will consider the difference between needs and wants, the types of resources that we have, and how we use them, and the nature and meaning of work. They will be engaged in economics and business as they work in groups to develop a business plan.

The 5/6 classes this week had their class photos and individual photos, as well as the year 6 group photo. These were catch up photos as many Stage 3 students were away on the original photo day back in term one and therefore the 5/6 classes did not have their photos done.

Thank parents and carers for your continued support throughout this term. Enjoy the holidays.

Regards,

Stage Three Teachers.

Intention to apply for Year 7 placement in a selective high school in 2022

Dear Parent/Carer

Selective high schools cater for academically gifted students with high potential who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic standard. Selective high schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, and by using specialised teaching methods.

Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 11 March 2021.

If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2022, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).

Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available in late September 2020 at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7.

The application website opens at that link on 6 October 2020 and closes on 9 November 2020. You must apply before the closing date.

There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Team for assistance after 6 October 2020.

You must submit only ONE application for each student.

The tear-off slip below is not an application and the school cannot apply on your behalf.

Yours sincerely

Mr Selwyn Williams

Principal

‘TELL THEM FROM ME’ PARENT SURVEY This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. This is your opportunity to provide input regarding future directions at Kirrawee PS as we prepare our Strategic Improvement Plan which will plan school projects and initiatives from 2021-2024. The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15

minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted over Term 3 and early Term 4.

Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au. To access the survey for our school go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/kps2020 The survey is available in 23 languages.

2020 KPS Book Fair

A big thank you to all parents who supported the 2020 Book Fair this year. Each class was given the opportunity to browse the selection of books from Scholastic and make their purchase. It was the biggest one yet in terms of money spent. This year, students (parents) and teachers spent $4200 on this day. This is great for our school as Kirrawee earns commission of the total amount. $400 will be used as credit towards purchasing Scholastic Books for the library. An additional $590 will be used to spend on purchasing more books and resources for the school library. Once again, thank you for your support on this week. The children have a great time exploring the shelves themselves and discussing the books they have purchased.

Gardening News

Spring has sprung The KPS Gardening Club has done a great job planting and tending to our garden. The tomatoes are thriving is this spring air and we can’t wait to see what they will look like after the break. Students also added green waste to the compost bin. There are currently thousands of worms inside our bin too, meaning it’s a healthy pile of waste.

Bring in your green waste! The KPS garden needs your veggie scraps to turn into compost again. At home, if families could set aside any 'green' waste such as; - vegetable scraps - avocado skins - coffee grounds - tea leaves/bags

Students can bring these scraps to school and deposit in the bin next to the KPS Garden. Regards, Mr David Mahoney Environment Coordinator
