1. INTRODUCTION
Third Energy UK Gas Limited (“Third Energy”) is proposing to hydraulically stimulate and test the Kirby
Misperton 8 well (“KM8”, drilled by Third Energy in 2013.
The proposed operation is subject to an environmental permit (Ref: EPR/DB3002HE), issued by the
Environment Agency in April 2016. The permit is subject to five (5) preoperational measures (PO1 –
PO5). PO1 relates to well integrity and states:
‘PO1a: Prior to the operation of the regulated facility the Operator shall conduct a well integrity test
on the existing borehole in accordance with section 4.3.1 of the Waste Management Plan.
PO1b: Prior to the operation of the regulated facility the Operator shall submit a written report to the
Environment Agency including the results of the integrity test carried out in accordance with
PO1a which should include, but not limited to any comments provided by the Health & Safety
Executive.’
Section 4.3.1 of the Waste Management Plan states:
‘Prior to the KM8 being suspended following its construction in 2013, the well was pressure tested to
confirm pressure integrity. Once well bore has been surveyed, the well will be pressure tested to
reconfirm pressure integrity.’
In order to comply with PO1a, Third Energy carried out an integrity test on the KM8 well on 25th April
2017, the results of which are provided as Appendix 1.
The purpose of this document is to report the outcome of the integrity test, together with
communications between Third Energy and the Health and Safety Executive (“HSE”).
This document is being submitted to the Environment Agency in order to comply with PO1b.
2. KM8 WELL INTEGRITY TEST
A well integrity test was carried out on the KM8 well by Moorhouse Drilling & Completions (MDC) on
25th April 2017, following a previously agreed method statement. The equipment used to record the
pressure test was in calibration and supporting certification inspected.
The well integrity test consisted of a 5,000psi pressure test, replicating the test carried out
immediately following its construction in 2013.
The pressure test was successful, thus demonstrating well integrity. A copy of the MDC KM8 Well
Pressure Test Post Operations Report is provided as Appendix 1, which contains a copy of the well test
chart and calibration certification.
A schematic detailing the construction of the KM8 well is provided as Appendix 2.

3. HEALTH AND SAFETY EXECUTIVE
A copy of the MDC KM8 Well Pressure Test Post Operations Report was submitted to the HSE for
comment. A copy of the communication between Third Energy and the HSE is provided as Appendix
3. The correspondence confirms that the HSE has no safeguarding concerns as to the information
provided by Third Energy, in the context of the KM8 pressure test carried out to confirm the integrity
of the KM8 well.
4. CONCLUSION
In accordance with PO1a and PO1b of the environmental permit, Third Energy has carried out a well
integrity test on the KM8 well and has documented it results, together with comments received from
the HSE within this document.
The integrity test was successful and reconfirms the integrity test carried prior to the KM8 being
suspended following its construction in 2013.
This document is being submitted to the Environment Agency in order to discharge PO1a and PO1b.

Summary Prior to operations taking place the casing design was checked and safety factors calculated for the pressure test – all calculations were accepted. The method statement for the operation was followed. A successful pressure test to 5,000 psi for 30 minutes was performed on the 9-5/8” casing, 7” liner and wellhead on the KM8 well via the wellhead annulus valve meeting the test acceptance criteria of less than 1% variation. The test was witnessed and accepted by the Senior Drilling Engineer of Third Energy.

Good afternoon ,
Thank you for your email. Based on the information presented to me, (KM8 Pressure Test Report -Third Energy ref.TE-KM8-WPTPOR-R0) and the email from yourself (dated the 12 of May 2017) I can say that I have no safeguardingconcerns.

From:Sent: 12 May 2017 11:22To:Cc:Subject: RE: KM8 Pressure test - EA Permit Discharge
Hi Thanks for your email and comments.
I have answered your comments below but please contact me if further clarification is required.1. The pressure test was made against the BPV in the hanger, hanger seals casing and wellhead body.
a. The 3-1/2” x 9-5/8” annulus valves were body tested and used to monitor pressure , the rationalbeing the annulus valves will be open during the frac operation.
b. The 13-3/8” x 9-5/8” annulus valve was open to monitor for flow during the test.c. Swab valve is tested as part of the well maintenance programme.
2. The permit requirement is ‘to conduct the integrity test of the existing borehole prior to operations’. Wetherefore tested the well in its current configuration to 5,000 psi which is in line with pressure testsalready conducted on the well and allowable within the existing casing design factors. Once the 4-1/2”casing is installed during the workover a further integrity test will be made in line with the pressuresexpected during the hydraulic stimulation.
3. Our understanding of the WLCIG is a Leak Tight acceptance criteria is determined by the well operator. The acceptance criteria applied to this test was based on our company standard which follows API 6Aand 14B, in the case of API 6A we decreased the acceptance level from 5% to 1% to make this test morestringent. The calculated loss rate was 363cm3/min, below 400cm3/minute defined in API 14B .
I would just like to add the request for the test was not based on any engineering standards or requirements andwas only to discharge a pre-operational condition imposed by the EA in the permit approval.

From:Sent: 11 May 2017 11:10To:Cc:Subject: KM8 Pressure test - EA Permit Discharge
Good morning ,
With reference to the above pressure test report I have reviewed the documents provided by Third Energy and Ineed response to the following clarification before I make my comments:
1. I understand from Table S.1.3 in your email that EA requested a well integrity test. In addition, in thesummary of the report it indicates that the pressure test was performed on the 9 5/8” casing. 7” liner andthe wellhead. However, the documents you supplied do not show that a full well integrity test wasperformed and it does not tell whether the side outlet valves of the casing spool were test. Therefore, I cancomment on the pressure test of the casing only. Please clarify what elements of the wellhead barriers weretested.
2. Please clarify the rationale of testing the well to 5000psi and how it compares with the maximum pressureexpected in the forthcoming well operations.
3. In the report it states that the test met the acceptance criteria of less than 1% variation. Please refer to theOil and Gas Well Integrity Guidelines (Issue 3, 2016) for pressure tests.
