We examine our progress holistically, taking into account our performance on a variety of measures which we call the “Six Essential Questions.” These questions help us assess whether we are progressing toward achieving our mission and fulfilling the promises we have made to our students. Student demographic data is reported as of 10.15.14 and State data reflects most recently available information.

are students progressing & achieving academically?

ABOUT THESE TESTSmap: The NWEA MAP is a norm-referenced, computer-adaptive assessment that provides comprehensive and reliable estimates of growth. It is administered in grades K-11.

percentile ranking: These lines give a frame of reference of how our students are performing versus the rest of the country. 25th percentile indicates students are performing in the bottom quarter of the nation on the MAP. 50th percentile means students are performing at the national average, etc.

MATHEMATICSMeasures of Academic Progress (MAP) Test Results by Cohort

average historical progress historical performance by prior cohorts

national percentile rank

Our founding elementary students finished 4th grade with an average score of 220 on the MAP, equivalent to the 70th percentile in the nation in math. They are entering fifth grade well ahead of all past classes in math.

National percentile rank

KIPP New Jersey 5th graders enter from other schools, not ours*, in the 25th percentile in math but reach the 57th percentile by the end of 8th grade, catching up to the average American student in four years.

*KIPP New Jersey’s first elementary school was founded in 2009. Our schools grow one grade at a time. The fourth grade cohort shown above will be the first to matriculate from one of our elementary schools to one of our middle schools. All prior cohorts of 5th graders have come into our schools from other elementary schools, not KIPP elementaries.

“MAP is important because it tells me if I’m really picking up what I’m learning. It

helps to show me where I’m at in the scale of national percentile and if I’m on track

for high school and college. Also, it helps my teachers know that I’m really learning

and picking up new facts.”

jailyn lucas, 7th grade

Our founding elementary students finished 4th grade with an average score of 211 on the MAP, equivalent to the 61st percentile in the nation in math. They are entering fifth grade well ahead of all past classes in reading.

KIPP New Jersey 5th graders enter from other schools, not ours*, in the 35th percentile in reading but reach the 53rd percentile by the end of 8th grade.

Like in math, our students, on average close the achievement gap and surpass the national average by 8th grade.
