Harmony Day Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. In schools we celebrate inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for all Australians, from the traditional owners of the land to those who have come from many countries around the world. Harmony Day occurs on 21 March each year and coincides with the United Nations' International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The ongoing theme of Harmony Day is ‘everyone belongs’. Harmony Day is a day of cultural respect for all. By participating in Harmony Day activities, we can learn and understand how all Australians equally belong to this nation and enrich it. At Kingswood South we will celebrate Harmony Day on Thursday the 19 th March, 2020. Students will be asked to wear orange clothing. Also on the day we will be acknowledging the National Day of Action against Bullying which is the following day. Students will be given a wristband and watch a show from the Brainstorm Production Company called the “The H Team”. Both the show and wristbands are free for all students. More information about this event will go home this week.

Year 6 to Year 7 Expression of Interest Form On Wednesday this week all year 6 students were given an Expression of Interest Form to be completed and returned to school. Please complete your child’s personal details and sign the declaration in Section A. Section B shows the name of your designated local school, based on your child ’s home address. Your child is entitled to a place at their local school. If you are seeking placement at your local school please sign Section B, and return the form by the due date. If you are seeking other placements please list up to three schools in order of preference in Section C. You can request placement in a: specialist school specific program within a school support class (in consultation with your primary school principal, who will submit an application for placement) or a non-local school. Schools have placement criteria for non-local enrolments where demand for non-local enrolment exceeds the number of available places below the enrolment buffer. If you are seeking a place at a non-local school, please provide reasons for seeking non-local placement, for example: siblings already enrolled at the school access to a single-sex school medical reasons safety and supervision of your child before and after school availability of subjects or combinations of subjects at the school compassionate circumstances the structure and organisation of the school recent changes in the local intake area boundaries The school enrolment panel will only consider the information on this form and other relevant documentation you provide. If you need help with these forms please come to the school office and a staff member will help you.

Stage Three Excursion to Canberra This year our Stage 3 overnight excursion will be a three day trip to Canberra. The students will leave on Monday the 21st September and return on Wednesday the 23rd September, 2020. The cost of this trip is $315.00 per student. The amount has been reduced due to the generous donation of $1,000.00 towards the cost of the bus from the Kingswood South P & C. There are only 60 places on this excursion. The first 60 to pay their deposit of $50.00 will secure their place on the excursion. Notes have gone home to stage 3 families and permission notes need to be returned to the school by Monday the 21st April, 2020.

Kingswood South P & C The Kingswood South P & C AGM was held on the 4 th March. Congratulations to the parents who have taken on P & C positions to continue the fundraising for the school. Congratulations to Mrs Gozzard who continues in the role as the P & C President. I would also extend a thank you to the retiring members who stepped down from the Vice President positions this year Mrs Donna Howe and Mrs Lee Glazier for their efforts. If you wish to come along to a meeting you are most welcome and it’s a great opportunity to become involved in your child’s school.

Please note that due to weather or changes in event organisation dates may change, however at the moment these events are going ahead on theses dates. We hope this helps parents with their organisation. Regards, Ms Sandra Martin Principal
