HOW ARE MOOCS SELECTED?• MOOC’s are selected based on 3 criteria:
1. The MOOC will act as a pathway to a full award degree (either online or on campus)2. The development of the MOOC will act as a primer for online learning3. The MOOC will generate significant revenue via sales of statements of participation and other
FutureLearn products
• Reputation enhancing • Bidding process• Funds provided• Faculty and marketing
HOW DO KING’S ONLINE AND THE FACULTY WORK TOGETHER?
• The faculty will appoint a ‘lead educator’ (or academic lead).• This lead will act as liaison between King’s Online and other faculty staff and content
providers (internal or external)• King’s Online will act as liaison between the faculty and FutureLearn• The faculty will be charged with providing all the academic content • King’s Online will provide an Instructional Designer to work with the lead educator to
transform the content into a MOOC • King’s Online will also assign developers to build the MOOC on the FutureLearn platform
RESOURCES – HOW MANY PEOPLE WORK ON A MOOC?
• Lead educator• Other content providers • Partners • Instructional designer • Faculty marketing officer • Developer • Video team • Project manager • Mentors
WHAT IS THE LEAD TIME?
• Ideally 1 year to develop a MOOC, from idea to delivery • This provides sufficient time for the following to happen:
1. Get MOOC approved by MOOC strategy group 2. Gain FutureLearn approval 3. Schedule the best time for the MOOC to run in the FutureLearn calendar4. Identify contributors, both internal and external 5. Agree terms of any partnerships 6. Design and agree the course structure 7. Identify and brief mentors 8. Develop 9. Run internal quality assurance (QA)10.Submit to FutureLearn 1 month before the run date for their own QA
