To provide information and referral services, offer assistance, support and advocate for the senior citizens of Kings County as prescribed and outlined in the Older Americans Act.

(HICAP)

Preventative Health Care for the Aging Program (P.H.C.A)

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

Multi-purpose Senior Service Program (MSSP)

Adult Day Care Centers

Legal Assistance: wills, power-of-attorney, etc…

Meals on Wheels: Meals for seniors 60yr and older, 4days a week providing 2/3 of daily nutrition requirements. Frozen meals are provided to homebound, convalescing seniors who may be unable to participate at the meal centers.

Senior Information/Referral and Consumer Services: Newsletter for items of special interest.

Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program: Provides an objective, independent mediator to resolve problems for residents in skilled nursing facilities and residential care facilities for the elderly.

Senior Counseling: Ongoing support groups and individual counseling.

Senior Access for Engagement Program (SAFE)

Personal Consultants, consumer services, help with forms, etc.

Kings Area Rural Transit (KART) $10 books of tickets can be purchased at KCCOA for $5 for seniors. Monthly passes can also be purchased at half price.

Special Senior Services and Personal Consultations

Special Services: American Cancer Society (transportation and medical aids), Lifeline (touch of a button will bring a response to your crisis), Guide dogs for the blind, caregivers support group, “Are You Okay”(daily automated call. Free Service)

Personal Consultations: Phone Pal: regular phone contact at designated times/dates to ensure safety. Unanswered call or call for help will bring designated person to home, Senior Visitor: Designated primarily to attend to homebound persons who desire personal contact with trained Senior Volunteer.

Cont.’ Special Senior Services and Personal Consultations

Senior Peer Counseling: Trained and supervised volunteer counselors listen and provide invaluable service to persons needing assistance, understanding and support.

Caregiver’s Support Groups: A place in which a group of participants can feel comfortable and safe expressing themselves as caregivers.
