September ACT
The next ACT is scheduled for September 10th, and the early registration deadline is August 5th. As a general rule, students should take the ACT at least once prior to starting their senior year. If you have a senior who has not taken the ACT yet, it is extremely important that this be prioritized for college admission and scholarship qualifications. Go to http://www.actstudent.org/ to set up a student account and to register.
Wichita State University is hosting an ACT prep workshop on Saturday, August 6th from 8:00 a.m. - noon. For more information or to register, go to http://www.registerblast.com/wsu/exam.
BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND MILK BREAK FEES
Breakfast, lunch and milk break fees will be posted on the website as soon as they are available. Grades K-2 has the option to receive afternoon milk break. Students will be encouraged to pay milk fees by the month; semester or year. Students on the free or reduced lunch program are required to pay for milk break. This is not a part of the federal lunch program.
Students in grades 6-12 can bring their own device whether it is a laptop or tablet according to the recommendations on Mobile Device Central. Parents can access Mobile Device Central by going to the Norwich School website => Parent Resources => Mobile Device Central. Students who don't bring their own device in grades 6-12 will be issued a computer. Computer fees will be $55/year, or one may be purchased from the school for $220.
Only Volleyball and Football fees are paid at enrollment. If the athlete is on reduced lunches the fee will be $27.00. The pay to play sports fee for any student who receives free lunches will be waived. You will need to notify the office if you meet these qualifications. Athletes will be allowed to attend 10 practices before payment is required. Any athlete who attends 10 practices and has not paid the sports fee will not be allowed to practice until full payment is made. The sports fee will be refunded to any athlete who has paid the sports fee and has decided to quit the team on or before the 10th day of practice.
Enrollment will be August 3rd & 4th from 12:00-4:00pm and 5:00-7:00pm. Enrollment fees and forms may be completed on-line for your convenience. Please refer to the school website (www.knusd331.com) for instructions in this process. Middle school and high school students may need to report to the office to select their elective courses. Senior portraits will be due to the yearbook staff by November 18, 2016, per the handbook:YEARBOOK PICTURES
Seniors should make arrangements to have their senior pictures taken when school is not in session. Specifications for the senior pictures will be given to juniors in the spring of their junior year. It is necessary that all pictures be turned in to the yearbook staff by November 18 of the student’s senior year.
All students have their pictures taken during the school day on a time and date designated by the administration. Students will be required to have their picture taken. Students are not required to purchase any pictures.
There will be a small sitting fee that also covers their small copy of the senior panel. These photos will be used in the yearbook on the senior portrait pages if a portrait of choice is not turned in by the November 18 deadline. Please plan senior pictures accordingly. There will be no extension of time given.
Senior Salutes AvailableSenior parents have the opportunity to purchase a senior salute in which they can put another
senior portrait of choice, a message, and/or a baby picture. Senior Salute prepaid orders will be due on September 9. The staff needs to know how much space to reserve so all salutes MUST be purchased by this date. Click here for a printable order form. Once purchased, be looking for those baby pictures. A second senior portrait, and/or baby picture, and message for the purchased salutes will be due January 20, 2017.
2017 Yearbook Staff Operational!
The 2017 yearbook staff is organized and consists of returning staff: Editor: Sydney Barnes, Erin Hall, and new member Anna Behrens. All staff members are seniors.
All three staff and adviser, Treva Brewster, attended the Jostens workshop the last week of July to plan the book’s theme, cover, and ladder. The ladder is a blueprint of the book. It can’t be finalized until all senior salutes and ads are purchased to know how much space to reserve.
Staff will begin the year focusing on selling ads, senior salutes, and 2017 yearbooks. Staff plans to be out selling to local businesses on Friday, August 26 and other area businesses on Tuesday, August 30. Support of the community and surrounding communities is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for supporting the yearbook staff.

Norwich SADD promotes Family Day4th Monday of Every Month
Children and teens who eat dinner with their families 5-7 times per week are less likely to smoke, drink or use drugs, according to recent studies by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASAColumbia®). Children and teens who have frequent family dinners are also more likely to report having excellent relationships with their parents.
Family Day – Be Involved. Stay Involved.® is a national movement launched by CASA Columbia® in 2001 to inform parents that frequent family dinners can make a difference. Celebrated annually on the fourth Monday of September, Family Day promotes parental engagement as a simple and effective way to reduce the risk of substance use in children and teens.
Over the past 20 years, CASA Columbia® has surveyed thousands of American children, teens and their parents to identify situations and circumstances that influence the risk of youth substance abuse. Nine out of ten Americans who meet the medical criteria for addiction started smoking, drinking or using drugs before age 18. Thus, children and teens that get through age 21 without smoking, abusing alcohol or using illegal drugs are virtually certain never to do so. Parents have the greatest influence on whether their children and teens will choose not to use.
The Family Day Campaign emphasizes how important it is to connect with your kids at various times throughout the day, whether it’s driving them to activities, tucking them into bed or having frequent family dinners. Family Day has been coordinated statewide since 2002 by Kansas Family Partnership (KFP), who encourages parents to make every day Family Day in their homes. For more information, visit www.kansasfamily.com/familyday.
The Norwich SADD would like to make the fourth Monday of every month a time when all families sit down and eat together. This will start in August on the 29th. If you have evening plans, pick another day at the end of the month to set down and eat with your family and disconnect from technology!
