Did you know?
1. Soccer is the most played sport in the world.
2. Soccer is the fastest growing sport for children in the
United States.
3. Soccer and hockey rules are the least known by average
Americans.
When we begin our soccer season here at Cornerstone, it will be
the first youth soccer league in the city of Portsmouth in at
least ten years. It will be our opportunity to reach even more
families with the love of Jesus Christ through sports
ministries here at Cornerstone.
We have moved away from the Upward logo to give every family a better opportunity
to play. With a registration fee of $30, this will be a more affordable option than the
$50 we would have had to charge with the Upward name attached. This gives us an
even better opportunity to serve our community.
Registration starts now for girls and boys ages 4 years through 2nd grade. Practices
start in August and our first game is September 6th. Pick up a registration brochure
at the church for your children and for the children in your neighborhood. We will
most definitely have a great time. Come and join us!

Men’s Retreat
On May 30, around 20 men gathered at Shawnee Lodge and Resort for a weekend of fellowship
organized by Cornerstone member Jay Darrel. The content of the retreat centered on John Eldredge’s Book,
Wild at Heart. Men’s group members Jonathan James, Jeff Bradley, and Jay Darrel all presented on various
topics, with member John Bender joining them on occasion for a roundtable discussion. The weekend gave
everyone who attended a chance to explore what it means, in Eldredge’s view, to be both a Christian and a
man in today’s society. Although the retreat is over and
was a success, the Cornerstones Men’s Group will contin-
ue to explore this book and invites all the men of Corner-
stone to join us.

Ever wonder what our kids are learning on
Sunday mornings?
Our elementary students are learning about Noah in a series called “Surviving
the Storm.” The kids usually play a game, watch an intro video, learn a bible
verse, hear a lesson with powerpoint, and then watch a rapper who raps
what the lesson was about. This month they will learn to:
Live for God in a Wicked World
Don’t Miss the Boat
After the Rain
Our preschoolers follow the Orange curriculum. This month they are watching a Clubhouse Pirate Adventure where they are
learning that God’s Word is better than gold. The Bible is our Treasure. They play a game to introduce the lesson, hear the
story, then complete a follow-up activity that is a craft or game to reinforce the day’s lessons. Parents can join our Children’s
Ministry page on facebook for a short follow-up video they can show their preschoolers each week. Orange curriculum
believes that when church and home work together, we create powerful learning about God.

We travelled through the Red Sea, picked up quail and manna in the desert, helped strength-
en Moses in battle, remembered God’s deliverance out of Egypt, and saw God’s love for us in
the 10 Commandments. Thanks to our amazing kids and volunteers!
The 41st year of the Knost Music Workshop comes to a
close with the highest attendance yet! Over 250 kids dai-
ly & 45 Staff.
The cookie donations were through the roof! We thank
you. The leftovers were donated to the youth during
their mission week.
We hope you were able to take in one of the fantastic
daily concerts. The closing program was incredible with
standing room only! We are so blessed and honored to
be able to offer this program to not only our local children but
we have many returning students from Tennessee, Chicago

Cornerstone will once again have the blessing of hosting two Chrysalis Flights in July. The
Girls’ Flight is scheduled for Saturday, July 12 through Monday, July 14. The Boys’ Flight is
scheduled for Saturday, July 19 through Monday, July 21. These flights are designed to bring
participants closer to Jesus Christ and to give them a vision as to how God will use their gifts
and graces to make our world a better place. Although Chrysalis is designed for high school
youth, we made special arrangements for college students to attend our Chrysalis Flights. For many college
students, summer flights are the only opportunity they will have to attend Chrysalis.
Every Chrysalis weekend consists of unique worship opportunities, prayer, fellowship, speakers, small group
discussions, singing, great food, and just plain fun. The weekend leadership team consists of both youth and
adults who have been well trained for the Chrysalis weekend. It has been a joy for the past seventeen years to
observe both participants and team volunteers grow as Christian leaders serving their churches, local
communities and overseas mission fields.
If you would like to learn more about the Chrysalis experience, please contact Joanne Charles, Community Lay
Director for the Southern Ohio Chrysalis community, or Pastor Tom. Contact information is as follows:

Our Very Own Beth Bostick
Continues To Serve In Mission!
As you are aware, “our very own” Cornerstone parishioner, Beth Bostick, is participating in a mission experience that takes her to
eleven countries in eleven months. Thus far, Beth and her team have served in Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Bulgaria and Albania.
Presently, she is serving in Zambia, Africa. In the May Courier we reported on her activities in Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.
Here’s an update regarding her recent adventures.
In Bulgaria Beth and her team worked on a property that is being converted into a retreat and conference center for Bulgarian
church leaders and children. They plastered, painted, installed windows, and landscaped the premises. They also worked with local church
leaders and children, speaking, singing, and performing dramas. All this in addition to worshipping and prayer-walking with them on a daily
basis.
In Albania Beth and her team worked at a summer camp preparing it for the arrival of underprivileged Albanian boys. They
washed, plastered, painted, poured concrete, and assembled furniture, playground equipment and picnic tables. We suspect these activities
were more fun than cleaning chicken coops and pig stalls….another of their many projects. During the Albanian leg of their journey they
studied Proverbs and lessons on integrity, hard work, excellence and finishing strong.

Invasion with Amy Lambert is coming to Portsmouth, Ohio on July 12th to Spartan Municipal
Stadium! Cornerstone invited Amy to speak in March 2013, and over the course of the year she
felt God calling her to hold a large event in Portsmouth. Invasion is a free non-traditional evan-
gelistic concert with the goal to reach the youth and young adults that are lost, those who would
not typically enter the four walls of the church, and those who are trapped within the epidemic
of substance abuse as well as other life controlling issues. This year’s lineup includes Chris-
tian rock groups, Red, and We as Human, as well as hip-hop artists Thi’sl and The Rep. There
will also be pro skateboarding and BMX demos, lots of incredible giveaways, and a chance to
win a Harley Davidson!
How can you help?
1) Pray. There is power in unified prayer!
2) Bring. Bring people to the event.
3) Volunteer. Volunteers are needed to work every aspect of Invasion, from parking
and greeting to stagehands and hospitality, however, our greatest need is always for a re-
sponse team.
To sign up to help go to hopeuprising.com or stop by the Welcome Center Booth

Big Event on July 17th
5:30pm-8:00pm Rejoicing in Recovery will be hosting a hot dog roast on July 17. This will be an intentional outreach to folks
who attended the Amy Lambert event the weekend prior. There will be bounce houses, snow cones, face
painting, and hot dogs. There will be a worship service at 6:30pm.
You can help by bringing sides and desserts. If you could bring them in disposable pans or paper plates, that
would be a big help.
