From the cold, clear waters of Southern New Zealand, comes Akaroa King Salmon. This small, family owned operation was started by a local farmer named Tom Bates, one of the pioneers of salmon farming in New Zealand. After spending much time searching for the perfect location, he decided upon Lucas Bay in the town of Akaroa. This bay has the perfect combination of pristine water and strong currents. The farm is now run by Tom’s son Duncan who is truly dedicated to producing the finest quality salmon. Based on their small scale and geographical location, Akaroa is the only King Salmon producer in New Zealand that can harvest, process and distribute on the same day, often within hours of harvest. • PLENTY OF ROOM FOR THE FISH TO GROW Average stocking density below 10 kg per cubic meter (almost 99% water to 1% fish).

• FEED These salmon have a very low feed conversion ratio of less than 1:1 FIFO. Their diet is specially designed to emulate that of wild salmon. A low energy diet of fishmeal and minimal fish oil provides a “slow grow” regime resulting in a unique texture and structure. This also results in a smaller fish with the same oil content of wild salmon, exactly how nature intended.

• AKAROA SALMON HATCHERY WILD BREEDING PROGRAM The Farm voluntarily works with the local Fish and Game Department to grow wild smolts that are released into the rivers.
