Kinetic Energy
Energy of MOTIONIf an object is moving it has KEMeasured using the formula:– KE = mass * velocity2
2
Examples:– Ball Rolling– Car Driving
![Page 3: Kinetic And Potential Energy Notes](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062405/5562c1fdd8b42a13618b5138/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Potential Energy
Potential Energy is the Energy of POSITION or SHAPEForm of Stored EnergyExamples:– Stretched bow or rubber band– Roller Coaster at top of hill– Gunpowder and food
![Page 4: Kinetic And Potential Energy Notes](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062405/5562c1fdd8b42a13618b5138/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Gravitational Potential Energy
A specific type of PECreated when you do work on an object by using a force that opposes gravity (lifting)Measured using the formula:– GPE = weight (N) * height (m)
Examples:– Diver on board– Car at top hill– Book on shelf
![Page 5: Kinetic And Potential Energy Notes](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062405/5562c1fdd8b42a13618b5138/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Mechanical Energy
Total energy of Motion and position of an object.Measured using the formula:– ME = KE + PE
ME always remains for a given objectExample:– Simple Online Pendulum
![Page 6: Kinetic And Potential Energy Notes](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062405/5562c1fdd8b42a13618b5138/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
ME stays the same for bus as it goes down the
hill
ME = KE + PE
The bus at this position on the hill has a very high potential energy and little to know Kinetic Energy
PE = weight * height
KE = (mass * velocity2)/ 2
![Page 7: Kinetic And Potential Energy Notes](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062405/5562c1fdd8b42a13618b5138/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
As the bus travels down the hill its PE decreases and its Kinetic Energy is increasing!
PE = weight * height
KE = (mass * velocity2)/ 2
ME stays the same for bus as it goes down the
hill
ME = KE + PE

At the bottom of the hill the bus has very low PE but very high KE
PE = weight * height
KE = (mass * velocity2)/ 2
ME stays the same for bus as it goes down the
hill
ME = KE + PE
