It's party season!!!!! Yes we had to check our diaries, double check our Blackberry's and finally

believed it once Outlook confirmed it! #hellodecember

With party season comes sparkly shoes, Christmas shopping and of course new fashion trends.

This issue we take a look at the Top 3 fashion trends that belong in your wardrobe. We have also

introduced a new feature: How To Wear? We look at four different types of shoes and show you

the best bet is to keep it simple and chic, modest and neat. Instead of

I'm going to be hitting the January sales hard and want to grab some style

bargains, what styles should I be looking out for that will take me through the

I have many pearls of style wisdom to share for shopping in the New Year sales,

but I'm going to break it down for you in two very simple rules you MUST follow.

1) Before you shop go through your wardrobe and write down a list of what

items you NEED. Take this list with you. 2) Do not stray from the list just

because 'OMG! It's such a bargain'. The lustre of an impulse buy wears off just

as quick as the voices in your head appear telling you that your life will be

incomplete without it.

Staple items are key. Think of jeans, work clothes, tops...things that will get a lot

of use. As far as trends for 2012 go think; vintage lace trims, warm orange and

gold hues, and whimsical floral and animal prints. They were big in 2011 and

they are firmly set to stay in 2012 too.

When we first saw Mark O’Brien’s cardboard

creations we were amazed!

Mark is an illustrator and cardboard craftsman

based near Manchester. Using cardboard boxes he

creates work to be used for display, illustration,

sets, props and shop windows.

As far as we are concerned Mark O’Brien is the

King of Cardboard!

Q: Why have you chosen cardboard as your medium of choice? A: It's a fantastic material to work with, it can be very strong or very flexible. It also has a great Illustrative look and it's easy to engage people's playful side with cardboard! Q: How long have you been working with cardboard?

A: I've always liked making things with old boxes but I've been 'working' with it for 7 years. Q: What inspires you? A: Iconic objects, fashion, music, TV, games and stories. I love looking at street art and I've developed a fondness for stylish shoes through my own work.

Q. How long does it take you to create one of your

masterpieces, for instance the men's shoes that you

have created?

A: It all depends what it is, the shoes are pretty quick sometimes, my smart shoes take me about 2 hours per pair nowadays. Things like my Digital camera can take days though.

Q. Do you have a favourite piece?

At the moment it's my budweiser crate guitar. It's the biggest thing I've done recently, it took a long time. It was a real labour of love.

Top 5 baking tips...

1) Be sure to use butter that has been out of the fridge for a few hours, otherwise it wont mix well.

- if the butter is too hard the ingredients wont mix together and it may rise unevenly.

2) Always pre heat your oven at the required temperature for at least 20 minutes before you put the cake/s in.

- If you put your cake/s in before the oven is ready, they won’t rise properly.

3) A good tip to know when your cake/s are ready is to press lightly with your finger in the middle of the

cake/s. If the sponge bouces back up when you take your finger off then it is ready. If it makes a dent then it

needs a bit longer in the oven. (Remember to be careful if using this tecnique the cake/s will be very hot)

- Alternatively you can insert a cocktail stick in the middle of the cake, if it comes out clean then it is done, if

its sticky then it will need a little longer.

4) Be Creative!

- Baking is great fun, be as creative as you like with decorating your cakes so they look just as good as they taste!

5) Remember, if it doesn’t work the first time dont give up!

- Baking is an art, so if at first you dont succeed, try, try again. If your first time baking is a desaster then dont worry,

even proffessional bakers get it wrong from time to time.

My easy peasy cupecake recipe (makes medium 12

cupcakes)

Ingredients. (Cupcakes) 125g butter (softened) 125g

Caster Sugar, 2 eggs, 125g Self Raising Flour, (Butter

Icing) 150g butter, 300g Icing Sugar, 1 Tablespoon Milk

Method:

Pre heath the oven to 180°C for an electric oven, 160°C

for an electric fan oven or Gas Mark 4.

In a large bowl beat together the butter and the caster

sugar until light and fluffy.

Next add the flour and eggs then mix all the ingredients to

a smooth paste.

Devide your mixture into 12 cupcake cases and place on

a baking tray (preferebly a cupcake baking try). This is

usually aproximatly 1 heaped teaspoon of mixture per

cupcake case.

Place your cakes on the middle shelf of your pre heated

oven for approximatly 10-15mins. Be sure to check your

cupcakes after 10 minutes to be sure you dont overcook

them.

Once they are ready, remove them from the tray and

place on a cooling rack.

Whilst they are cooling you can prepare the topping:

Mix together the butter and milk to a soft paste, then

slowly add the icing sugar a bit at a time. (Be sure to use

a slow setting if using an electric whisk otherwise icing

sugar will go everywhere!)

If you have food colouring add a few drops to the mixture

a bit at a time until you have reached the desired colour.

When the cakes are cooled you can smooth over the

butter icing with a spatular or knife. Or if you have a

piping set then use it to create a pretty effect.

There are lots of cakes decorations available that you can

buy either from a cake specialist (online or shop) or even

from your local supermarket now, so have a go at being

really creative!
