General Course Description

The Kindergarten Social Studies Curriculum covers the four main strands: History, Geography,Economics, and Citizenship/Government. It is designed to explore living, learning and working,now and long ago and near and far. Students will learn about holidays as they apply to history. Students are challenged to learn personal addresses and navigation of home/school surroundings.

General Course Evaluation

Kindergarten evaluation for social studies includes:

1. Pre-testing -test for prior knowledge,

2. Objective assessment -objective assessments (Pictures with multiple choice, true false, short answer) have correct answers. These

include individually completed work sheets, and periodic unit tests,

3. Subjective assessment -based on teacher’s observation and notation,

4. Interactive assessments -computer CD-ROM work map games, and use of the map and globe,

5. Classroom and individual projects - includes classroom stories, and dioramas, puppet presentations, and drama

6. Participation-class participation includes answering reflective questions in a course module, and taking part in weekly class discussions.
