July 1, 2016 Dear Parents/Guardians, Welcome to another school year in Lombard School District 44! We have a long history of collaboration with families and excellence in education. Our registration packet is designed to provide you with information needed to prepare for the new school year. Please carefully review the information in this packet and return all necessary forms by August 5, unless your child is in middle school grades 6-8. These students will have walk-in registration, so be sure to bring all necessary forms on the day and time of your registration. If you have specific questions, please contact your child’s school after August 5.

Kindergarten through fifth grade students are assigned to the elementary school within the boundaries established for their residence. District 44 has a limited open enrollment policy. Parents may request permission for their child to attend any of our six elementary schools. If your request is granted, you will be notified by mid-August. New requests for a change in school assignment require completing an application and sending three letters: one of the letters is to be directed to the Administration Center Human Resources department, one to the principal of the school that you are considering, and one to the principal of your home school. Applications may be picked up from your home school. We have a quality instructional program that is designed to meet the needs of all students. Our aim as a district is for each student to attain personal excellence. District 44 strives to provide a safe and caring learning environment. Help your student(s) contribute to this environment by taking time to review school and district-wide procedures together. We will work hard to create an environment that promotes the highest level of student learning. We understand the important role parents and the community play in this partnership that ensures student success. Together we can make a positive difference for every student! Thank you for your support and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time. Sincerely yours,

Dr. Michael E. Robey Superintendent

Lombard District 44 Elementary School Breakfast and Lunch Information A hot lunch program is provided at each of our elementary schools and will be available the first full day of school. Monthly menus are available on the district website which is www.sd44.org. Students may choose a peanut butter & jelly, a tuna salad sandwich or a salad in place of the main entree for the same cost - they would still get the vegetable, fruit and milk components included in the hot lunch. Breakfast will be available each morning before school begins. The cost of the meal, which includes milk, is $1.50. A computerized point of sale system is utilized to record purchases at the elementary schools. In the debit card system, the student’s ID number will identify their account and a picture of the student will appear upon purchase to help ensure safety and proper identification. Parents must deposit money and maintain a positive balance in their child’s account. You may deposit enough to cover lunch expenses for one week, two weeks, a month, yearly, etc. Deposits must be made prior to your child using this account since this is a debit system, and whenever your child makes a purchase the cost is deducted from his/her account. Therefore, if your child wishes to purchase lunch on the first day of school, there must be a positive balance in the account. Please Note: If your child has a negative balance, he/she will not be allowed to purchase any items until money is in his/her account. Charges will not continue to be charged to a negative account. With the debit card system, the cashier will inform your student when their balance gets low. When paying by check, only send checks payable to Lombard District 44. Please send checks and/or cash on Monday mornings (if your child is absent or there is no school on Monday the next school attendance day is acceptable). Another option for payment is to go to myschoolbucks.com and sign up to make deposits using your credit card or automatic payments from your checking account. For more information on myschoolbucks.com, please visit the site. You may also contact the cafeteria office (630-827-4594) at any time to inquire about your student’s balance. The cost of a hot lunch (which includes milk) will be $2.75 per day. The cost of milk alone will be $.50. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Cafeteria office (630-827-4594) or the Administration Center (630-827-4421).
