Cutting Shelves:You can cut shelves yourself with an inexpensive masonary blade on a skill saw. Cut the shelf before firing.

We can have shelves cut if required, but customer must give us advance notice. We may have to order shelves cut at Plainsman, and brought in on next clay load. Cutting charges to be determined at the time.Sorry, but we aren't able to cut shelves on site.

Silicon Carbide:Imported oxide bonded silicon carbide shelves are coated on one side with kiln wash. The design incorporates side slits to prolong shelf life by reliev-ing thermal expansion stress.

Essential for firing plates and other flat items that can take up a lot of kiln space when fired on regular shelves. StiltsStilts are generally used at low temperature - cone 06, to support pieces that have been glazed on the bottom.The clay the stilts are made from is a high temperature body, but the manu-facturer doesn't recommend firing above cone 6 as the nichrome wire may bend.

Non-Asbestos Mitts and Gloves These woven kevlar gloves contain no asbestos. They are flame proof, du-rable, and lined with wool fleece for added protection. Their general use is for unloading kilns or handling hot items. They are a must to protect hands from heat during the Raku Firing process. Note that these gloves are not meant for contact with the raku pots themselves. Normally you'd use raku tongs to pickup the pots, and the gloves are to protect your hands while using the tongs. Normal size is "large". Bead RacksBead racks are used at low temperature. The clay body for the bead racks is a cone 10 body, but the manufacturer recommends firing to a maximum of cone 04 because the nichrome wire starts to bend. If you fire any higher, we recommend using a Bead Bar: CBBH as the support since it will take higher temperatures: see below.

Insulating Soft-BrickThis lightweight brick is used in the construction of kilns. K-23 brick are the most commonly used choice, as they insulate better, are lighter, and cheaper than the K-26 brick. K-23 brick are rated to 2300° F. K-26 are rated to 2600°. Size of the brick is 2.5" x 4.5" x 9". 12 bricks in a box.

Hard Fire-BrickFirebrick is used in the construction of kilns. Flame brick is the lowest duty brick and is suitable for exit flues and chimneys. France Non-Spall brick is a high duty (2600*F) brick with some iron content and is suit-able inside the kiln for support purposes as well as being suitable for fireboxes and bagwalls. Duralite brick is a high duty, high alumina brick suitable for use in salt kilns.
