A number of students competed at many venues over the last week. Each time I was contacted about the outstanding quality of Killarney Vale students. You may think “so what?” For a principal, organiser, parent or teacher to take time out of their busy day to let me know, means that not only are our children well be- haved but much more so than usual – otherwise why would people bother to ring? Also a sign of a great community was all the parent support at the disco last week. It went like clockwork, without a hitch, thanks to all who helped out. For another testimonial about one of our students read on! PSSA Girls Football State Titles Last week the Combined Wallarah/Tuggerah Lakes Zone Girls football team played an invitational game at the PSSA State Titles. The team included Keisha of Killarney Va- le P.S. It was an exciting occasion and a terrific opportunity for Keisha to see what playing at a high level football competition is all about. The girls played against the regional team representing the Western Region of N.S.W. The game was a tense affair and ended in a nil all draw with the local team unlucky not to put away one of the many chances they made in an action packed 2nd half and show- ing that they certainly had more than enough talent to compete at this elite level. Keisha played a great game in the midfield and was the solid rock on which our play was built. Her tackling was strong and her passing improves very time I see her play. Congratulations Keisha and great luck in the future. Craig Kembler—Wallarah/Tuggerah Lakes Zone Coach

    Reminder

    Only at Killarney Vale

Again, another amazing week! A number of students competed at many venues over the last week. Each time I was contacted about the outstanding quality of Killarney Vale students. You may think “so what?” For a principal, organiser, parent or teacher to take time out of their busy day to let me know, means that not only are our children well be-haved but much more so than usual – otherwise why would people bother to ring?

    PSSA Girls Football State Titles

Last week the Combined Wallarah/Tuggerah Lakes Zone Girls football team played an invitational game at the PSSA State Titles. The team included Keisha of Killarney Va-le P.S. It was an exciting occasion and a terrific opportunity for Keisha to see what playing at a high level football competition is all about.

    Reports and Student Led Conferences

Student Led Conferences will again be held in the final two weeks of term 2, commenc-ing Monday 17th June. Student Led Conferences are a time when children focus and talk to mum and dad about what they are doing at school, what they are proud of and what they could do better. It is also a time for parents to recognise great work and help their child plan how to improve the things that worry them.

The dates are below for each class and a booking sheet attached to this newsletter to book a time that suits you. Bookings will be taken on a first come, first served basis.

    Tuesday 18th June – 5/6E & 5/6B

    Thursday 20th June – 1G, 1S & 2G

    Education Week

Education Week Open Day is planned for Wednesday 31st July and we are planning a fabulous day so save the date.

We are moving along with our flags, so all should be ready for the 31st.

    Pick Ups

Further to last week’s request. We do our very best to get a message to your child if you are going to be late. If six people ring at 3.04 it is a bit tricky – as much notice as possible would be great. Thanks in anticipation.

  • Do you have a Net Nanny?

This is your friendly reminder to parents and carers about the problems around stu-dents accessing social media.

It has come to our attention that girls at a nearby school were being inappropriately approached by unknown males, via a couple of children’s sites that involved chat rooms. Our recommendation is that parents deny access to all sites where chat rooms are a feature of the site. This can be achieved via the use of a Net Nanny and these can be downloaded and applied to your home systems quite easily. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!

Also, many students do not understand the wide reach of statements made on the net and the real possibility that once something is “out there” it can be impossible to stop. Facebook itself, states that children under 13 should not be allowed to access it. Police state that this then makes the issue a parent responsibility and the best way to stop cyber bullying and or stalking is to take your child’s page down and stop looking at oth-ers comments.

Police also asked us to remind you that comments made by students of a negative na-ture about others, are a breach of the Telecommunication Act and students, or their adult carer can be charged under this act. Basically the take home message is DON’T GET INVOLVED in social media until your child is mature enough to manage it. They are not mature enough in primary school!

    Please Update your Numbers

This is a really important request. Do it now, don’t delay!!!! If you have changed contact details in the last 12 months please let us know as soon as possible. We rarely need to ring, but when we do, we need to be able to contact you immediately. Thanks in anticipation. Do it now and put it in your child’s bag. Don’t put it off!

    Silver Award and Reward Day

We will be presenting Silver Awards (K – 6) at 9.15am on Wednesday 26th June. Our reward movie day will be held after the assembly. Blankets, pillows and snacks very welcome.

New Ethics Program for Stage 1.

Any parent interested in their child attending the ethics program for stage 1 need to read the note attached to this newsletter.
