STOKE NEWS
A message from David Hello and welcome to the October edition of Stoke News. This edition celebrates your generosity in helping to raise money for others less fortunate, and I’m incredibly proud of the money raised and the spirit of the events that have taken place. I’m really excited about our upcoming staff briefings where we’ll be answering your questions, and listening to your ideas about how we can improve what we do. We will also be talking about how our communications group are going to play a bigger role in collating your on-going feedback to help shape a better future for staff and the customer. I look forward to meeting with you soon. Keep up the hard work.

OCTOBER 13
Kier Stoke held a ‘bring a pound’ to work day to raise funds for cancer charity, Douglas Macmillan. Staff were asked to donate a pound and come either in dress down, or a onesie. Lots of people donated and we raised £114. Shaun Osborn, always looking to role model, and raise money for good causes, was the only one daring enough to sport this feisty little tiger number. Grrrr.
Tenant with Kier Stoke’s mascot Kieran Kier Stoke to provide ‘A Grade’ school refurbishment Glebe Primary School in Fenton is set to gain improved facilities thanks to Partnership Kier Stoke, which is undertaking the construction of an extension along with additional refurbishments to a value of £750,000. The extension will replace existing mobile classrooms and comprises four new permanent classrooms along with brand new toilets, changing rooms, cloak areas and storage rooms.
The works have begun on site now that pupils at the school have finished their SAT exams this summer, ensuring their revision and tests were not disrupted. Now that construction has started, temporary classrooms have been installed by Kier Stoke for the duration of the improvements allowing school life to continue unaffected. Kier regional managing director, David Mawson, said: “This is an exciting project for Glebe Primary School which will see it gain improved facilities and a refreshed environment for its pupils and local community.”

“With the addition of temporary classrooms, we are confident the school will be able to continue as normal while the works take place and pupils will be able to start the new year with brand new facilities to enjoy.” Head Mistress, Suzanne Oakes-Smith said: “We are excited to welcome Kier Stoke to our school and are looking forward to seeing the improvements take place over the coming months. The new facilities will enhance the learning environment we offer and benefit our pupils in their learning.”
Super cute!

THE MARC HUGHES FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
Colleagues, friends, family and even our Sub-Contractors (Brenden Fern and Carrington Scaffolding) came together to compete in a five-a-side football competition to raise funds in memory of Stoke plumber, Marc Hughes, who sadly passed away from a brain tumour in 2008. Ten teams took part in the competition helping to raise over £700 for charities children’s charity, Barnados, and cancer charity, Douglas MacMillian. While the players carved up the turf, children and families took part in variety of activities including a colouring competition, beat the goalie and a dancing competition. Additional support was received from local businesses in the form of cheque, cash and prize donations. The raffle sported some attractive prizes including, a £50 Love2shop voucher, digital radio and paintball experience for ten people!
