Cooking is a wonderful activity to get involved in with your children. While cooking they are learning and develop-ing many different skills, including so-cial skills such as turn taking and work-ing together. They are developing early mathematics concepts such as measuring and comparison of size and volume, while at the same time developing their motor skills.

You will need:125g butter1 tsp vanilla essence1/2 cup caster sugar2 eggs1 cup plain flour2 tsp baking powder1/4 cup milk

How to make:- Preheat oven to 190øC and prepare cupcake trays and cases.- Beat butter, vanilla and sugar together until creamy and pale.- Adds eggs one at a time and mix well. Don’t worry if it looks like it is starting to seperate.- Sift flour and baking powder into the mixture and fold in until it is combined. - Slowly stir in milk to achieve a soft dropping consistency.- Spoon evenly into paper cases, then bake for 15 minutes or until cakes spring back when lightly touched.- Let cool on a wire rack, then ice or decorate as you please.

Words of WisdomBefore you begin baking assemble every thing you need. Talk with your children about hygiene and safety in the kitchen. As you cook, help them to read the recipe, and chat about what is happening as you go along. Most of all remember to have fun!

They are looking for-ward to having many more culinery experi-ences from the “Ed-monds Cookbook”.
